American Tap Room - Bethesda Ratings and Reviews
Ingredients are listed for their foods, however not all ingredients are listed. For example as an appetizer we ordered the Bourbon Street Flatbread which on the menu listed the following ingredients: Andouille Sausage, Peppers, Cajun Chicken, and Fontina Cheese. However there was no mention of onions or celery. We sent the flatbread back because of this and asked for a new flatbread without onions. 20 minutes later a second flatbread was brought out but it was a completely different flatbread. We then had to send that one back as well. Another 20 minutes later the correct flatbread without onions had been sent. Of course by this time everyone had finished their meals and were ready to pay. Although the manager was quite friendly and attentive, our waitress was not. In the end, we were still charged for the flatbread.
It was a Friday night and the place was pretty dead. The host didn't understand what OpenTable was and just tried to sit us. We skipped the empty dining area and sat at the bar instead. The bar was understaffed and had to wait with empty glasses each time. Our food was slow to come but tasted well.
Everything was great; our server was greater than great. Food was good; drinks were excellent.
The only down-side: the chef does not easily understand "rare" and "well done," so if you care, take a little extra time with your fine server and ask him/her to make clear to the kitchen what you want.
We have ATR another try, even after being totally ignored last time. But two picky kids and a desire to see sports on TV limits choices, even in Bethesda. Waiter was nice but quite interested in his personal phone which he checked constantly. We sat in booth near kitchen and watched as our food got cold. And man, was it cold. I think they simply can’t find good help, but they won’t be getting any more money out of us.
This restaurant once had a breakfast buffet in the weekends. This was the reason we came. However the this has become a all you can eat brunch. Where you pick from a brunch menu. It is definitely not the same experience of a nice weekend brunch.Instead you have a confused server that really tried his best but it did not work after all.
the level of the food was really poor. and this became also an expensive way to eat brunch.
So definitely not recommended. This was our last visit to this restaurant.
We celebrated my son's birthday with family. Everyone was pleased with their food: my grandson's steak was very good, my son and daughter in law were happy with their planked salmon, and I enjoyed the skillet jambalaya. Our appetizers and mojitos were also very good, and we shared two desserts among the 4 of us--one of them on the house because it was for a birthday celebration. Service was very pleasant and good. The ambiance is not fancy, but pleasant and not too loud.
Meal took forever to arrive. One meal came out and after 5 minutes manager came and took it away after it had been put on the table "incorrectly" (despite being the correct thing). When asked if they were going to give it to someone else (in violation of several health codes), he claimed that they were going to take it away and throw it away (???). A few minutes later, two other meals came out, the manager returned the same plate of food he had just taken. Then a few minutes after that the last meal finally came out. Later in the meal, the bartender brought a beer that had been ordered, followed a few minutes later by the waitress with an accidental duplicate. After leaving it on the table for about twenty minutes, she came back and tried to take it back to the bar. (Again- why? If to reserve- health code violation, if to trash, why??)
Service was slow, perplexingly bad, and the manager was terrible and combative when challenged on mind-blowingly ridiculous behavior. The food was ok, though largely cold as though it had been sitting out for quite sometime, despite coming or in dribs and drabs after a ton of time.
We made reservations for our party of 6 to celebrate an engagement. I can imagine on weekends and during major sporting events, it could get very loud. But we had a more intimate experience with less noise and sat at a booth that was perfect for our group. We were there for about 3 hours, brought our own dessert, and the service throughout was excellent. I would highly recommend American Tap Bar for a great hangout spot to meet up with friends - great ambiance, amazing food, fantastic service.
Food was pretty good, however the service was awful. The restaurant wasn't very busy however it seemed as though the waiter forgot about us. Took an hour just for us to put in our order, but once our food order was placed the food came out within 15 min. Would recommend but make sure you're patient and have time on your hands.
We've been going to the American Tap Room for many years. Between our last visit and this past Saturday night, they redid the decor. Gone are the fabulous comfy wing chairs that helped to make dining there so much fun, as well as the cool LED-lit menus and the attractive wall decorations. It now looks like a not-very-interesting chain restaurant. The service was outstanding, but the food was just okay. Tap tap shrimp appetizer was great, as usual, and my husband said the shrimp jambalaya was excellent, but we both agreed that my rosemary chicken was cafeteria quality, and my asparagus was overcooked. Our son was happy enough with his sliders. I can't see much reason for us to return, with so many other options for better food right in Bethesda. This is really too bad, and I hope that the American Tap Room will bring the quality of its food up to the level of the quality of its service.
Always a good time, but a bit disappointed with the new menu/decor. It seems to have taken a step down in ambiance. I ordered a dirty Caesar with salmon. The portion was large, a good thing, but it seemed to be just thrown on the plate. It was bit unwieldy. In addition, I thought the lettuce might be grilled because it had some brown spots. I realized it wasn't grilled, just yucky lettuce. Too many croutons. Another person had the Salmon sliders - there was no arugula or garnish. I think the menu said it would have something on it. The chicken & waffles was good - like the boneless fried chicken. We must have been the only table our waitress had in the side room because she seemed to struggle to get over to us and I could see her serving tables across the restaurant. Poor station assignments. Miss the trout & crab soup on the menu.
My wife and I visited on a Friday afternoon hoping to take advantage of the nice atmosphere offered by eating in downtown Bethesda. Unfortunately, the atmosphere was not what we expected. We ordered salmon and my wife had to send hers back because it was undercooked. While they did not charge for the meal we were disappointed because we still need to find someplace to eat. The drinks, on the other hand, were good. They had several good beers on tap and served them promptly. However, we both felt the drinks were not cold enough.
