My family and I used to go to American Grille all the time throughout my childhood. Decided to go back for my 24th birthday and unfortunately it was a pretty big let down. I’ve worked in the service industry for 10 years now and I know what quality service and food is.
The food was just okay...really nothing special. I had the Salmon burger, it was flavourless, and the bun was just way too big and doughy for the amount of salmon on there. My uncle and dad got the soup of the day which was supposed to be a lamb and vegetable...there was no lamb in it and it didn’t even have any lamb flavour what so ever. My mom had the halibut burger and she was very unimpressed as well. Just overall, not great food and extremely overpriced for the quality.
In terms of the service the waitress and the host were great and that was probably the one good thing about the experience. However the manager was very unpleasant. She came to our table twice and both times made very interesting comments, that honestly made us not teel very welcomed. The first comment was when we arrived there and she came to our table and said something along the lines of “you guys look like your not in the right place” the second comment was when she dropped off my uncles fish tacos and he told her to put them in the middle because he was sharing with my brother and she made a comment “well theres only 2”. It was just very offputting to me for a manager to make those kind of comments. Both my mom and I kept looking at eachother and just thinking “wtf”. If she had come to our table one more time and made a comment I would have said something to her. Overall, not a great experience.
Food was good, service excellent, French wine pricey and tasted not good.
Kitchen smell quite obvious, need improvement or sit further away.
Excellent service - Remi was knowledgeable about menu, friendly, not rushed. Good food - interesting green salad, great ribs. Location not scenic, but nice interior.
The food was amazing and by the portion were big! The servers were very nice and attentive. We didn't even feel we were rushed despite staying for longer. I totally recommend this place! Good food and great ambiance!
The pros for this restaurant are many, food and service are great. In my opinion the decor still looks good but the chairs could be updated, the one I was sitting on could use a new cushion seat!
Good Good Good
Great service and food. We were celebrating a birthday and they even gave us a cake, on the house
Our waiter Renee was excellent, and the food was great too!
Very good consistent Restaurant good service and excellent serving staff
The Ling Cod chefs feature was fabulous!!
Great food & ambience! Great service and reasonably priced.
The food was not as good as usual and the server seemed overwhelmed
Servers were friendly, food were good
We were all impressed with Jovi, our waiter, who was friendly, helpful and had a great sense of humour. Well done!``
Don’t understand the high rating on trip advisor. Good, but unremarkable, hotel restaurant food. Would not go there again.
Very disappointing Valentine's Day meal. Desserts were so simple with no plating at all.
As it was Valentine's Day special, the dessert should at least have some Valentine's Day theme
or heart shaped design. Taste for the main and the rest were just so so......
My quinoa salad was superb. My husband had a halibut burger which he also enjoyed. Our server was very good. I had a lovely glass (9oz) of Malbec — overall a great meal. We will be back!
Wonderful service, especially from Remi who goes out of his way to provide. Remembers repeat customers and was so very patient and wonderful with my very elderly parents
Used the “ Dine Out “ menu and had a great meal and very personable service from Remi.
It's always a pleasure to meet friends and associates at the American Grille where we have always had quality food and a wonderful ambience. I recommend it all al of my friends and associates of business and other groups I am associated with
Great manner but slow service. Starters and main courses were both cold and salty.
Comfortable & tasty foods. Thank you. Huggies.
We have been meaning to try out American Grill for many years, our meal did not disappoint.
Not much of a selection on the menu. The waitress did explain the entree dish but want came
To the table wasn’t what I pictured and taste was ok..very rich
If you looking for a romance place to go. This is not it! Old tables and chairs ..the table for a 2 seater..you are to far away to talk
Don’t sit near the window...too cold
Food quality was not as expected. Steak (rib-eye) was very thin and grissly.
Good service and waitresses were all smiley and polite.
It was a last minute booking and then we were late! But the hostess was so nice to us and put us at ease. Our waiter was outstanding. We all had something different and enjoyed it. We loved the cozy feeling and being able to watch the chefs cooking. A great place in a lovely hotel.
Our group of six enjoyed our meal at the American Grille. Everyone enjoyed their selections. The turkey dinner was a great special and a nice way to celebrate American Thanksgiving.
We were all staying at the Marriot, Sheraton or Hilton so the location was very convient.
We also enjoyed Happy Hour next door in the bar and were able to bring our meals to our dinner table. All round good experience. Would go again.
Enjoyed a nice evening here. The last time I visited for dinner was at least 4 years ago, not sure why..in my memory the food was not very memorable. My husband and I were pleasantly surprised this time. The portions are very generous. We ordered mussels and fries. Fall quinoa salad (super comfort food and was delicious). For the entree we shared the grille platter. It was a perfect portion for two. The charred meats (steak and ribs) were really tasty. Service was also very friendly. Finished off with an earl grey creme brûlée. Thank you for a cozy evening!
we have been patrons for years but in general, the food quality has slipped; the staff are superb; specifically the clam chowder, thickness of broth, seems like it was made with cream but now with milk. lastly, the fruit flies are still a problem
Friendly staffs made my dinner comfort
Good seafood as well
We come to the American Grille every month or so and usually have a good meal. Food is high quality and the service is very good. We came on a recent Sunday and I was disappointed to find that they've discontinued their Sunday Prime Rib. This was our usual reason to come to the restaurant.
We were a party of 2 couples to have the lunch on Saturday. The ambience was very nice not too quiet and not too loudly on the lunch time. All of us ordered the seafood dishs. The portions of mussel and halibut with angel hairs were very large. It was very tasty. We definitely shall come soon. The waitress was very friendly.
I went there with my girlfriend and my son. We ordered a Tuna Poke, Cod with seasonal vegetables and cod linguini, all dishes were super tasty and filling. We had no room for desserts. I think what we appreciated most was we could have a conversation and hear each other.
Very well met. Good service good food.
We had an awesome server Amy who was friendly and pretty attentive to our needs. The restaurant was quite busy, more so than I thought it would be. We had the duck breast and halibut pasta, both dishes were really tasty. It's not a huge restaurant so I would definitely make a reservation before stopping by. We didn't try the dessert this time but may spring for it next time. Definitely would come back here! They have lots of high chairs as well so very family friendly.
Birthday dinner here. Food was good. Server was good. We ordered the rack of lamb, which was a big portion so very good for two people to share, We also ordered the Spicy Shrimp and Avocado Salad. That one wasn't spicy at all.. the sauce was a bit too sweet for our liking, but overall.. it was a good experience. Will come back again,.
My wife and I visit the Grille quite often It's our favourite restaurant in Richmond. We have never had a bad meal. We have recommended it to many of our friends and sometimes come with other couples and also family celebrations The menu is excellent especially the seafood dishes also really good value
Considering it is rated as the number 2 restaurant in Richmond, we expected better.
The service was great, and the food really was outstanding, especially for both presentation and taste. The initial bread basket had nice, warm fresh bread, and some kind of sesame/poppy? cracker leaves? It was great while we waited, and we finished all of that throughout dinner too.
We started with the crab cakes, which I thought were maybe just a tad dry, but didnt really detract too much. For the main course, I had the duck breast, and my wife had the blackened halibut. The duck was medium rare, beautifully tender and tasty, the veggies were cooked to perfection, the potatoes nicely firm, the carrot puree was a wonderful touch to the veggies, and there was none of it left on my plate. The blackened halibut had a nice light crust to it, tender underneath, and very tasty. To top it off, we shared the Chocolate Tres Leches, rich but light, the perfect finish to a fabulous meal! It was a bit of a drive from Maple Ridge, but well worth it, and would do it again. At first I thought the portions seemed a bit small, but after we finished, we were both stuffed. Thanks to the servers and kitchen staff!
