Perfect as always
2 stars as for the second time made reservation via the app but no table reserved.
Managed to have the table anyway all perfect as always just annoying …
A great little bar, full of character. Fabulous staff, good food, great cocktails...what's not to like!
I wouldn’t recommend for dining. They sat 7 people at 2 small tables for lunch. Wouldn’t move a chair over for us when restaurant was empty and made one of us sit on poof. Wasn’t comfortable. Too bad because food was good.
Shampoo at the bar, excellent service.
Great food and nice restaurant! Perfect for a nice lunch. Recommend the club sandwich.
Visited Saturday lunchtime having reserved a table for 2 for lunch prior to a theatre matinee visit. I had traditional fish, chips and mushy peas washed down with a bottle of Aspall organic cider and my wife had an American bar club sandwich and fries accompanied by a QM cocktail. My battered haddock was perfectly cooked within the beautifully crisp and tasty batter. The chunky thrice fried chips were delicious. The mushy peas were a glorious compliment to the fish and the homemade tartare sauce was a triumph. My wife’s club sandwich was prepared with grilled sourdough and contained a succulent chicken breast which was perfectly grilled and complimented by crispy pancetta and grilled baby gem, vine tomato and Burford Brown egg. A good sized portion of thin fries accompanied the sandwich and a good selection of condiments.
The American Bar was quiet when we arrived (our reservation was made for 12 noon) but did become busier during the time we were there with patrons mostly choosing to dine there rather than just enjoy a drink. The location of the hotel in the heart of upmarket St James May put off some people but the American Bar delivers a superb mix of classic British hospitality, great food in an eclectic setting and is just minutes walk from Piccadilly shops and the West End. I would highly recommend the American Bar for a pleasant bar lunch in central London.
Hidden gem in London for drinks or lunch
Birthday treat for me from family. All very good as usual
Very good all round. Good fish and chips. Atmosphere, warm cosy and with professional service .look forward to coming again.
It’s a fab place to try cocktails
We have another booking so it is needless to say that overall we like it very much. Especially the Scott’s Eggs. Everything is perfect for us.
Amazing drinks, great ambience. Not as busy as you would expect, and you can’t go wrong if you go here. For a friend’s get-together or a date, both works!
Very nice restaurant with beautiful garden. Service was also excellent. The food was very delicious especially the Scott's eggs and of course the rest . I would recommend this place as it is a hidden paradise in central london.
Great location, good food, but only bar seating inside. Dining tables are in courtyard which got chilly at lunch.
Staff very attentive and professional. Food very poor and expensive. Lobster and crayfish roll .. Crispy French stick with a dollop of lobster and crayfish on top and some chips£20? Meantime pale ale £9?
Would visit again but not for food.
Perfect for a catch-up over breakfast, outdoor area in good weather is perfect.
Great food, good service, nice ambience, good value
First time. Had great burgers for a late afternoon meal. Mixed drinks well done. Entire bar has worldwide memorabilia. Service was top notch. A fun place for a relaxing bite.
Great place, excellent food quality and servings, excellent, attentive service!
Most highly recommended! Do not miss out on this one!
Really lovely setting, with delicious food and great service. I wasn't too sure how it would work for breakfast, but your meal comes on a cushioned tray. It was lovely.
THE setting is perfect for outside lunch/dinner/drinks. I have been twice , both times THE service incredible incompetent and slow. Good food, good wine, not cheap, which would be fine, if service would be better. WHen seated it takes a long time, at least 10 minutes for a waiter to take the drinks order. And food when ordered took forever to arrive. Very nice setting but for a business lunch way too slow......"
This is a hidden treasure and it's particularly nice on a sunny day sitting outdoors. It's a beautiful spot and food is nice and staff friendly (but a bit slow at times).
a little hard to find the location but once there great outdoor space and service is excellent! All the food was delicious too.
We had a great afternoon outdoors. The ambience is great... Food was very good. The only thing that has to improve is the service, it was very slow.
A lovely typical British setting with good typical American and other foods. The service was outstanding and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The American Bar is full of character and memorabilia, but it is also nice on a sunny day to sit in the courtyard. We ate lunch in the courtyard and then had coffee in the bar.
