A very rainy day n Charleston - chose this restaurant because of its proximity to our hotel. We arrived at 6:45 & wanted to have a martini w/ oysters - server kept pressing us to order our main courses . We’re from the West coast so wanted to try différent oysters before we committed to ordering our main courses . House oysters were meager & bland, ordered others (blue ?) that were better but still kind of just ok. In Wa , shuckers would never serve oysters that they had not cut the muscles from the shells- very sloppy. Main courses of grouper (we’re both from fla originally so know our southern fish) which was tasteless- we decided it was frozen . Tables on each side of us were in & out in 45 mins- we were still trying to dine & enjoy our meal- probably just not a good fit for us .
I would give the food 6 stars if I could. Was an excellent meal and evening! Thank You
The food was above average, however several tables around ours had food sent back. We were seated in the middle of the bank of tables for 2 in the back of the restaurant. It was uncomfortably close and not the intimate dinner we had envisioned. Our waitress was less than helpful and nearly nonexistent. If we came back, I’d hope to be seated in a better location with a more attentive & knowledgeable service provider. Better yet, I think the experience might have been better at the bar.
Thursday evening dinner for two. Nice room, good food & very good service
We enjoyed the food a talking with other guests. Danielle was awesome and knew her stuff about the oysters. We will be bringing my sister here to try oysters next month!
Since I travel over 100 times per year, its special when I get the opportunity to eat somewhere where the food and atmosphere is different in a good way. This was one of those times. Everything was good, spiced/cooked in a uniquely positive way from calamari to salads to oysters. Nice setting and atmosphere. Even found a few things on the wine list I had never seen that I loved. Hope to be able to go back.
Our server Frances was wonderful and very attentive! All was wonderful and the atmosphere was great!
Food was very tasty with a great southern flare on seafood and great service!
Loved this place. Great oysters, she crab soup, ambiance and good wine selection. Waitress v knowledgeable and helpful. Will return
The Salmon, Shrimp, and Flounder were amazing! Great quality and service. Will return soon.
Amen Street and its sister restaurant next door, Paw Paw, are both good choices for East Bay dining. Amen is more spirited while PP feels more upscale. All food choices are reliable. Amen is certainly more for the lovers of seafood. They seems to go to lengths to have well conceived menu selections.
Waitress was great but 3 times I was asked about what the special occasion was from the time of booking - to calling to confirm and when being seated. Each time we said it was my birthday. Nothing special happened. Strange. We sat in a booth. That’s it. Why ask then?
We had an unbelievable meal at Amen Street...
We covered oysters, she crab soup, crab cakes, mussels and scallops and every single bite was out of this world. Our server, Danielle, was very professional and knowledgeable, happily answering any questions we had.
We loved it there and next time we are in Charleston, it will be the first place we go for dinner!
A wonderful meal in a great food city. The three of our party enjoyed all our meals and our cocktails. The shrimp risotto was excellent with great flavor and consistency. The shrimp “corn dogs were also excellent. I will definitely return when I am back in Charleston!
I am sad to write such a bad review - we looked forward to dinner at Amen. It apparently was overrun with diners last evening by virtue of a nearby power outage. We showed patience to the host and bartender - who were visibly stressed - even telling them we can have a drink and wait. When they seated us however everything was awful. They put us in a back corner behind the bar in a tall table and seats - extremely uncomfortable. The raw oysters were meager. Our dinner was not served for 1 hour and ten minutes after our arrival and more than 50 minutes after we ordered. We told our waitress, who was very rude to us throughout dinner, that we were going to leave without paying if our dinner wasn't served. Soon it came - and it was cold.
We were quite upset by this point and spoke with the manager who also was rude to us. They did provide us a discount. We got up to leave and I bumped an empty tray that they had placed on the bar next to our corner seats. We tried to joke about it with nearby diners when a man stood up and threatened us, asking did you knock that tray on purpose. I don't know who he was but I warn you against this restaurant. It may have good food - but obviously not reliably so and many of the staff and even customers are very rude.
Food was delicious and service was friendly and attentive.
Great food, reasonably priced and exceptional service.... can’t complain one bit. All was well done and we’d be back and recommend to anyone that want quality everything!!!
Arrived early and they were great about accommodating us. Food as usual was awesome. McKenzie was an excellent waitress. Great environment, great location.
My group of ladies were in town for the Cooper Bridge Run. Amen Street was a recommendation from a friend who lives in Charleston. We loved it!
She crab soup - it's a must if you visit! Everything was delicious, amazing flavor combinations and very fresh.
We were seated immediately and our server appeared promptly. We asked for both drink and food recommendations and both were spot on. Don’t miss this when visiting Charleston.
Excellent service, great food, unique vibe
It was crowded and it took them forever to serve us. My wife only ate about half of her meal.
Great service, great food, good afternoon late afternoon lunch.
Good relaxed atmosphere. Delicious beetroot salad was enough for me. Exposed brick decor with seating at the bar and in booths or regular tables.
Great cocktail options, fresh local seafood, and friendly service! I don't know why it took me so long to go here.
Great food and nice atmosphere. Enjoyed our meal and due to the food being a little slow, without out asking, they took desert and appetizer off the bill. Very kind of them.
Incredibly underwhelming in every way. We ate all over Charleston and this was by far our least favorite restaurant. The drinks were watered down and over priced. The she-crab soup was good but cold. The crab cakes were bland. The tuna tacos were meh. Worst of all was the special of the night, soft shell crab. Over cooked, over seasoned, not good. The oysters were good, the shrimp corn dogs were also good. But we all wished we’d gone somewhere else. It felt like a tourist trap.
Best raw oyster bar in Charleston ! Fantastic service by Michael. Great food. Great price great food great service. The only downside was ac too high. And could be even better with more comfortable seating ( we couldn’t get a booth). Will be back!
An absolutely fabulous and delightful spot in the old city! Superb menu, seasonal, fresh and everything is so well prepared and served. Wait staff are great - friendly, knowledgeable and fun!
Food is fantastic! Seated a little late.
The food was delicious and service spot on. Try the key lime pie!
fantastic......the staff...food....atmosphere was just great!!!
Lowcountry Seafood prepared in a fresh clean inventive way. Oysters Rockefeller scrumptiously delicious. Asparagus perfectly cooked. She Crab soup no complaints. Service attentive friendly
Had lunch at Amen Street while in Charleston. The food was excellent, especially the She Crab soup, but the service was just OK .
So glad that we booked a table at Amen. The warmth of the venue plus the variety of items on the menu made for a wonderful visit. Our server was very efficient and friendly. The food came out in a timely manner and was delicious...as were the drinks. If I lived in town, I certainly would dine here again!
Food was excellent
