Amen Street Fish + Raw Bar Ratings and Reviews
Hair was found on our food. They replaced meal, and brought new plates/ utensils after we asked for it. They apologized for the hair, but did not discount or offer to bring an extra drink, etc. In my experience, usually a restaurant will comp meal or offer some sort of extra. I was not impressed. I've been here 2x. (The first time was in 10/2014, and the recent was 12/2017
Great food, excellent service and a cool vibe. Casual and lively but not loud or crowded. Highly recommended. We enjoyed the following: Oyster shooter, Bloody Mary with a chilled shrimp, She crab soup, raw oysters, shrimp corn dogs (so good), risotto and shrimp, crab cakes, and finished off with key lime pie.
Went here while ion town for a wedding. Always went to the old stand by's and decided to try some place new. Couldn't be happier! From the service to the food, everything was ideal! Wonderful shrimp and grits! Mussels to die for! Can't wait to visit again!!!
We arrived early for our reservation hoping to grab happy hour first. Happy hour at the bar was crowded, so we opted to be seated instead. Our booth was in full view of the bar, and it was a happening scene! The restaurant is beautiful and the staff very friendly. The cocktails were very good, and the food was excellent. I had the scallops - OMG. Quite possibly the best scallops I've had. Cooked to perfection with pork belly and a slight drizzle of sauce. Just lovely! My group also ordered the steamed muscles - so good - and the mahi mahi - which was blackened and served over greens. We also had salads and appetizers. Of all the food we ordered, there was nothing we would change. I cannot wait to go back to Amen Street!
The food is beyond incredible. The atmosphere is casual which I found disappointing considering the quality of food and price. I can't wait to to go back again. The atmosphere was great. Our staff were friendly and wonderful. The food was excellent and the variety of oysters would have anyone coming back often.
Food was tasty, but nothing special. Our group of two had entrees of shrimp and grits, and fried oysters. The dish of shrimp and grits mostly was grits. It was skimpy on the shrimp and on the andouille sausage. Fried oysters came with hush puppies and creamed corn. No bread offered. Beer and cocktail selection is good. Place was crowded and we were seated promptly in roomy booth for 7 pm reservation. Nothing wrong, but in a city with lots of restaurant competition, little stood out.
In a town with many restaurant choices, Amen is still one of our dependable favorites. If you want fish - they do fish. The oysters are fresh from interesting places. The fish items are fresh, and you have several choices for preparation. We have found Amen always delivers a well prepared seafood meal.
Particular notice to Lindsey, our server, who was funny and engaging, and very efficient.
Good Southern Hush Puppies!! I had the Salmon salad! Cooked perfectly! Not too over or under done!! Wonderful line up of beers!! Good atmosphere! Worked well for business lunch!
Exceptional server!! We were busy discussing and she left us alone just enough!! Well done!!
Great happy hour! Cheap drinks and easy to visit with other customers (only valid at bar stools) from 4-7 pm.
Fish selection very limited. We tried the grouper- small piece and nothing special.
Skip dinner and go for oysters, crab cakes and drinks at the bar's happy hour.
This place was spectacular. The food, the service and the ambience. We sat by the window and got to people watch while we ate. Everything I ate was delish: she crab soup w Sherry; shrimp and grits were the best I ever had ; the key lime pie was perfection.
Danielle, our server was par excellent. She helped to make our experience a great one. She was very knowledgeable; knew the menu and could give us history on the oysters and their types.
Would highly recommend the restaurant and Danielle.
We came her for our Anniversary based on the high ranking the restaurant has. While the fish dish my husband had was very good, my mussels were fair. Living in the area, I have had much better just about any other place I've been. We also had the calamari and I would consider that to be good. Unusual but good.
Can not speak to the desserts. I always have dessert but, just wasn't impressed enough to stay there so went ahead to have dessert somewhere else.
As for the anniversary part, would have chosen a different place. We have spent anniversaries in other restaurants and have at least gotten a smile along with"Happy Anniversary" from our servers. Got the feeling we were just another table.
Amen Street is a great casual place for dinner right on East Bay close to the market. Their specialty is fish and oysters (in season), but they also have a great hamburger. My wife and I had shrimp risotto this time and it was excellent. The service was great -- fast and friendly (wish I could remember her name). We sat in the window watching the people walking by. Nice evening.
The Food was delicious, very well prepared. The raw oysters were excellent. The wine paired well with the selected food. Our waitress was very attentive.
The restaurant was very noisy this evening. It would be nice if tables for two would be a little bit more separated.
