Amen Street Fish + Raw Bar
Located at 205 East Bay Street in the heart of the historic district this Charleston seafood restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor dining all within walking distance of the local Market and the Charleston Harbor.
The menu includes a variety of seafood dishes such as oysters, clams and shrimp in addition to an ever growing raw bar menu. Amen Street supports Charleston's local fishing industry with market fresh fish.
We are open for lunch and dinner. Walk-ins are welcome and reservations are accepted as well.
I went here for my birthday dinner and had a fantastic meal! As someone with Celiac disease I am always nervous about eating out, but the server was knowledgeable and friendly and the meal was fantastic! The wine selection is also wonderful and great for a celebration.
We were on vacation in Charleston. I had shrimp and grits and my husband had the filet. Both were very good. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. I would recommend this restaurant because of the great food and atmosphere. We enjoyed our dining experience. Thx.
Good variety, food was excellent, she crab soup, especially.
It was a wonderful introduction to Charleston dining.
I never review but I have to since our experience was so poor. We wait at least 20 minutes for anyone to come greet our table, and they did give us an app on the house. Our server was nice but then we didn’t see her for at least 45 minutes...I’m not sure if she had tables in another area. Our food took another hour. Just disappointing because it seemed like
Very friendly staff. Food and drinks were absolutely amazing.
Amen is our favorite place for dining in downtown Charleston. The food is outstanding! We never had a bed experience. The ambience is cool. Nice decoration. Sometimes the service lacks a little bit, but not to the point of making us not wanting to go back.
Four star food at 2$ prices.
Had an excellent time. The place was energetic and fun. We enjoyed the fresh seafood and raw bar. Amen has a great beer, wine and cocktail selection.
Oysters were great. My mahi mahi over gritswere really good( but could have been hotter). My husbands fish tacos were a little stringy.
Creative food. Plump oysters. Great service.
We were placed at a table in a quieter area My husband loved his calamari appetizer. We bath loved the she crab soup. My wahoo was very good - a smaller serving for lunch, but enough for me.
Wife and I spent 25th Wedding Anniversary in Charleston between Oct. 24-27. We went happy hour Friday night and had a fantastic time sitting at the bar drinking and eating oysters. Friendly and attentive staff along with a wonderful atmosphere. In fact , we enjoyed so much we made reservations for the next night at 8:45 but when we arrived we grabbed seats at the bar again and really had another blast of a night.
We returned home to Wilmington,NC with plans on returning at least once a year.
Michael (our server) was very knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. He provided us with answers and recommendations and stopped by frequently to ensure we were enjoying our meal. He was one of the best servers we have experienced in a long time in the area. I highly recommend Michael. The food was excellent; we were all pleased with our selections.
I have had better bouillabaisse, so I was disappted in that. Didn't think shrimp, white fish (overcooked) and mussels were sufficient seafood; and the broth was tasty but not exceptional. There was a large whole garlic clove that should have been cut up. No rouille -- shouldn't that be a part of it?
Friend had seafood platter and enjoyed it. Hushpuppies excellent.
Service very friendly; service ok but not great.
If I could give this place 6 stars I would. First of all, the service was 10 Stars. If you go and get Mike as your server, I guarantee you one of the best dining experiences of your life.
I can not wait to visit Charleston again and come here again- the service was impeccable (but down to earth and fun, not at all pretentious), the food was perfect - the blackened shrimp was the best I’d ever had and the salmon salad was perfect. They are very knowledgeable about Oysters and even inspired my 70 year old mother to try her first one!
Thank you for making our trip to Charleston so enjoyable and especially thank you to Mike!
Our server (Ashley) was wonderful. Her recommendations were right on point. We will definitely be back on our next visit.
HH at the bar (only) from 4-7pm is such a great deal. Food and oyster shooter are fantastic. Service at the bar was just as great. Highly recommend!
This is the 3rd time I have eaten when visiting Charleston. The food is always good and Fresh. Cool place with good drinks.
Our server, Transit, was amazing. Her recommendations were spot on.
Ordered deep fried green tomato and the Amen Street raw platter. The wait staff should have suggested something else that is more substantial.I was hungry at midnight. Thank God that I have cheese platter at the hotel fridge.
This place was really good. The server Ashley gave us information about the food and great recommendations. Her service was top notch!
The chef made me a great dinner using no oil or butter due to diet.
Everything on the menu looked delicious. I found it hard to choose. The waitress had to come back three times before I knew what I wanted. After making my reservation for 2 on Open Table, i invited 4 friends but forgot to update my reservation. They were able to accommodate all of us.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere!
One of the best in Charleston!
Michael was tremendous. We appreciated the birthday key love lime pie. You could tell he enjoyed his job.
Would not recommend - food was marginal and customer service was HORRIBLE! Risotto was overly salty and crab cakes were mostly filler. Poor customer service if you send an unsatisfactory meal back and want a replacement - plan on it being a to-go meal instead of a meal with your companions. We were very excited to dine at Amen Street but were disappointed almost from the get-go. The appetizers were good but shrimp pops were way over coated. Our meals arrived and mine was not good (Lowcountry fish). My grouper was like rubber and the grits were barely warm. Our waitress graciously offered a replacement, which I ordered. She stated that it would be out quickly as it is a quick dish to cook (shrimp & grits). Five mintues passed - no meal. 7 minutes passed - no meal. 12 minutes passed - no meal. We signaled for our waitress who didn't know what the delay was. 15 minutes passes - no meal. By this time my dinner companions were done eating their meals. Two of my dining companions even had their plates already cleared from the table. I asked our waitress over to the table to find out why there was such a lag time and she said she would again check to see if it was ready. By this time, I was frustrated and had NO interest in eating by myself. I asked our waitress to comp us a round of drinks for my inconvenience. She said she didn't have the authority to do so (understood) so I asked the manager to come to our table. Unhappy customers - managers should be super attentative. It was at least 5 or more minutes before Ms. Kilcully (not sure if spelling is correct) came to our table and asked what the problem was, offered to pack my meal to go (useless). I said I didn't come to the restaurant for a to go meal so no thanks, but comp us a round of drinks or take a round off our bill. Her response was, "Uuuuuh I'm not sure about that." We were all thoroughly disappointed with the poor customer service and an offer to bag my meal instead of making it right.
Wonderful place! The food was amazing and the ambiance was perfect!
Great food and service. Noisy, but food and service and really pleasant wait staff made up for it.
Megan was fabulous, oysters and shrimp corn dogs !!!
Lovely meal in buzzing restaurant. Food very good quite noisy.
Excellent food and service. Oysters, Scallops, Mussels, all good. I would definitely recommend! Very accommodating on my wife's dairy allergy. Huge thanks!
Unbelievable. All around
Was not pleased that both people celebrating birthday received nothing. Why ask the occasion then?
Fun upbeat restaurant in a great location. The Low Country Grouper was excellent and the grouper special was very good a well. We sat near the hostess stand and bar so it was a little loud but still a fun night with an excellent meal!
Always a favorite when we are in Charleston. Seared scallops and shrimp corn dogs are a must! Michael, our server tonight was super professional and fun!
Found out about Amem from visitor center. Nice find. The happy hour food was delicious especially the mussells and calmari.
Food was spectacular and service was amazing! We will definitely be back.
I’ve eaten here numerous times. While the food is very good, about 75% of our visits they are out of fried oysters. And that’s disappointing. If you are set on fried oysters, you are well advised to phone ahead. Be prepared to be disappointed in the response. Mind you, the place is full of oysters on the raw bar, but we’ve been told multiple times, “We’re out of fried oysters.”
