Amelia's Italian Cuisine Ratings and Reviews
My son and wife said it was the best Italian meal ever. My 12yr old grandson said the
blueberry cheese cake was out of this world. He wants to come back soon.
The food was outstanding and so was the service.
The price was good also. Can't say anymore, this is a great restaurant.
Not being from the area it was a little tough to find. Nice, small restaurant. The were a bit busier than the expected. Initally service was slow. The NY crostini was an excellent appetizer. I had the chicken sorrentini. Nicely cooked and presented. A bit salty for my taste. My wife ordered the lobster ravioli and she was disappointed in the amount of filling. The wait staff really did their best to take care of us but you could tell they were overwhelmed. Overall not a bad experience. Just a word of caution... Be very careful where you park. There is no easily accessible handicap parking and it did become an issue.....
Amelia's has been open in Gainesville for many years. I had lunch there when it first opened and was not impressed. Recently we met some friends there who have made the restaurant their go to place. The food was excellent (obviously not the same restaurant), the chef came out to greet us and said that he recently taken over the restaurant. Now we eat at Amelia's after the theatre and on many special occasions.
Four of us from Ocala dined at Amelia's before going to the Hipp. None of us had been there in quite a while. Three of us had daily specials, and one had a regular menu item. All entrees were delicious and beautifully presented. We had excellent service by Jenn, and Chef Andy checked on us several times. We were all very satisfied with our experience at Amelia's.
I love Amelia's especially the Eggplant Parmesan with a very yummy pasta sauce. I have never had eggplant prepared this way. It is way better than the fried eggplant most restaurants offer. Amelia's is a good place to go for special occasions, as well as, for a meal anytime.
I have not been to this place in about 10 years. I remember it being nice with good food. I also remember it being expensive. This was in my mid 20s, now in my mid 30s this place is even better! Keep in mind in my mid 20s Bud light was expensive and Natty Light was cheap. The food selection was Outstanding and they had a nice amount of wines. My wife had a traditional pasta dish where I had a NY Strip plate, probably the best steak I've had in some time. Back to the prices, I was borke 10 years ago. But the prices, atmosphere and food are all worth a visit. The server we had, I think her name was Emma was very nice. An App, 2 entrees, a few Carafes of wine was about $100...well worth it!!!
This is the closest you'll get to authentic Italian food in Gainesville. The food is excellent and the staff is always friendly. I have been here a few times now and have always had a good experience. My only advice is to make a reservation- sometimes it will be unexpectedly packed.
We were visiting Gainesville and made this reservation based on other good reviews. The restaurant is unpretentious and a little hard to find from the street address but we were really glad we did. The food was delicious, the staff friendly and the wine list reasonably priced. Will definitely go back if in that area again.
My wife and I took a friend to dinner. We started with an appetizer, the sauteed portobello mushroom slices; those were fabulous. Then I had one of the specials, the Surf and Turf, which was two very small (4 oz) filets and a few large shrimp, all in a creamy blue cheese sauce. The filets were delicious, cooked just as I ordered and very tender, complemented nicely by the shrimp and sauce. My wife had Dentice (in this case, Grouper) Mugnaia, which she enjoyed immensely, and our friend had another special, Lobster Ravioli. The friend and I had the very tasty house salad, which had a light vinaigrette; my wife had the Caesar salad and said it was quite good. My wife had the Tartufo Cappucino; she had been looking forward to the coffee ice cream inside a hard chocolate shell with whipped cream on the side, and it didn't disappoint. The service was very good and at a nice pace -- leisurely enough for us to enjoy the company as well as the food but by no means slow. We had a very pleasant evening, livened up at one point by a rare -- in my experience, at least -- rendition of "Happy Birthday" on the saxophone.
The food was excellent and the ambience relaxing. The owner made us feel special. Because it was my husband's birthday, the owner played Happy Birthday on his saxaphone and gave us complimentary drinks and desserts. Bottles of wine are half price on Tuesdays; that was also a pleasant discovery. Service was friendly and efficient.
This was my first, but definitely not my last, visit to Amelia's.
It brought back memories of the big Italian family dinners of my childhood! The food was delicious, with portions big enough for lunch today, the atmosphere was friendly and welcoming, and my friend and I could hold a conversation without having to raise our voices.
Our server was delightful, and helped to make my first Amelia's experience worthy of 5 stars.
I'll be back!
Dance Alive National Ballet has a standing relationship with Amelia's. Chef Andy has been a sponsor of this outstanding non-profit professional ballet company for many years, and we always look forward to dining at his beautiful and intimate restaurant, with outstanding food and ambiance. Amelia's is a gem, and the special location, in the downtown Sun Center and behind another gem, the Hippodrome Theatre, makes it a welcome site for visitors and locals alike.
