Amelia's Italian Cuisine Ratings and Reviews
We have dined at Amelia's for over 20 years and have found it to be one of the nicest restaurants in Gainesville. Although numerous Italian restaurants have opened in town, Amelia's has remained best on our list. On our most recent visit, however, it appeared that the consistency of of the menu has slipped somewhat. The bread was slightly burned, the soup over spiced, and the entree heavily salted--not what we expected of Amelia's. We will try again to see if things improve, but it is possible that Francesca's has moved to the tops spot.
This is our favorite restaurant. The chef and owner Andy is amazing. His recipes are fantastic. I had the veal chop special with asparagus and mashed potatoes and it was delicious. The sauce was rich and tasty and the veal was juicy and tender. The perfect place to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
Chef Andy is a talented and inovated master of favor. He carefully plans all aspects of your dining experience. He makes you feel like he prepares your dinner service just for you. We are repeat customers and he makes us feel like friends who come over to his house for a great meal.
We go here on occasion when in Gainesville. Always an enjoyable evening. The owner/chef is very attentive with the crowd and interacts with everyone. His attentiveness is shown in the ingredients and preparation of the meal, which is always of good portion, fresh, hot and delicious! We will be back! Well done Amelia's.
Service was very slow. Waiter did not seem knowledgeable. Waiter neglected to bring the side of pasta that the menu indicated came with each entree. Bottom of manicotti shells were rubbery, however the filling was tasty. I’ve had better Italian. The house Pinot noir was average.
We went for a New Year's Eve dinner. We normally order wine or mixed drinks, but then I saw the "MOËT IMPÉRIAL" champaign on the menu, and had to order a bottle (we love Moet but had not tried the Imperial before). It was the best champaign I ever tasted, and I like it better than Dom Perignon.
For the dinner, I ordered the Scaloppine Francese, which was outstanding. My wife ordered a Lobster dish that was a New Year's Eve special, and she loved it.
I would definitely go back to this restaurant!
Amelia's is our favorite restaurant - bar none! It's our go-to restaurant for special occasions. We go for our anniversary - every year since moving to Gainesville in 2005, pre or post attendance at The Hipp, and whenever we have family or friends in from out of town. Chef Andy does a spectacular job with the menu and the overall atmosphere and ambience. The Grouper I had last week was the best I have ever had while my wife had her "every time we go" lobster ravioli. Thanks. See you in 2018!
Excellent meal, attentive and friendly service, comfortable ambiance. Their house salad dressing is simple but perfectly balanced to bring out the taste of the vegetables. All of the grouper dishes looked terrific, but I chose the one with a butter sauce and capers. It was scrumptious. The chef came out to see how we were enjoying the meal. The wait staff was excellent.
Amelia’s was better than we expected. Chef Andy came out and asked if we had questions and made fabulous recommendations. We all had different food and the huge portions were great for sharing. Be sure to save room for the desserts. Each one was fantastic. Can’t wait to come back
The owner/head chef was awesome. Made his rounds through the single dining room a few times throughout the night, including once to perform happy birthday on his saxophone! Service and selection were great, and with the exception of one particularly loud guest at a nearby table, it was a very quiet and comfortable atmosphere
Commendations: Mushroom appetizer was excellent. My wife's veal dish was one of the best that she has ever had. Two chicken dishes were generous in amount and quite tasty. Waitress was informative, accommodating, and attentive without being invasive. Another waitstaff member aided kindly with a photograph with the newlyweds in our party. A thumbs up for the restaurant's support of public television.
Only Concerns: The salmon dish was sizable, but not as delicious as desired, per our daughter. We mentioned to the owner that there were newlyweds at the table, which we thought would generate something like a candle in a cupcake or something akin to that. Nothing materialized.
We were passing through Gainesville on a Sunday night, and searched out Amelia's via Open Table. This was quite possibly THE best Italian restaurant at which I've dined stateside. I had simple dishes - minestrone soup, a salad, and chicken marsala. The pasta was superb. We ordered a Brunello di Montalcino that was fantastic for the price point. The service was spectacular. The only downside is that I probably won't be passing through Gainesville anytime in the near future so I can go to this restaurant again. It is a true gem!
