Amelia's Bistro - New Jersey Ratings and Reviews
We have had brunch at Amelia's three or four times now. The service has been consistently excellent and the food is delicious without being pretentious. This time all three of us were vegetarians and there were plenty of choices for us. Andres was our server and he was attentive and kept our coffee mugs full. We appreciate that the $4 mimosas and bellinis are never stingy on the wine. We will be back for sure!
Completely enjoyed this neighborhood restaurant. Our server was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed charcuterie and the short rib lolly pops. The port chop special and braised short ribs were delicious and well prepared. Can't wait to return; one of the best places in JC!
Two of my colleagues and I -- on different teaching schedules -- are making an effort to get together at least monthly to socialize and discuss work issues. Amelia's was our second early evening out this semester and it was perfect for our purpose. Granted we arrived extra early, but even at 8, when we left, it was quiet enough for conversation without shouting. The food was excellent, two steaks cooked perfectly, though the pasta dish needed to be reheated since it was almost room temperature when delivered. The server was maybe a little too friendly, but he did bend over backwards to make sure everything went smoothly. Overall, Amelia's Bistro had everything we needed to combine serious and social discussion with good food and a convenient Jersey City location.
Met friends for brunch. Service was prompt, drinks and orders taken. Food came out reasonable quick, as did our drinks; however no water was delivered until very late into the meal and only upon request. Food quality met expectations. It was moderately busy, bustling but easy to carry on conversation. Overall was satisfied, I would go back.
Had the mozz, tomato and basil and mushroom flatbreads which were excellent, as were the tuscan white bean and manchego crostinis. Other dishes were also good. Server was friendly. Unfortunately, inside is way too dark and the music is too loud. Food is great and they could really aspire to more.
If I lived in the area, this would be my go to restaurant, great service, nice selection of drinks and food. We came here on Friday night for my mother's birthday celebration since our niece was cheering at a nearby stadium. Everything was great from appetizers, drinks, our entrees, and dessert.
A true neighborhood gem. The menu is large and varied and I have never had a bad meal, whether it's just small plates and drinks, or a 3-course dinner. The service is always friendly and welcoming, and they are on top of their game. They know the wine list and can recommend the right accompaniment to a meal, or offer a new wine to taste at the bar.
I was very disappointed in our meal here; the special of the day was lobster steamed with green beans and potatoes. The lobster was lukewarm, butter was warm not hot and I asked for no butter on my green beans which came out loaded with butter and salt. My colleagues ordered bruschetta to start and are vegetarian; they brought out a crab bruschetta by mistake but did correct it eventually. Food was average at best and mediocre at worst.
Amelia's is our favorite brunch and dinner in the Jersey City / Hoboken area. The staff is friendly and fun, the atmosphere is chic with a traditional feel, and the food quality is out of this world. We have eaten there for breakfast and dinner twice and still can't believe each meal is better than the last. Plus the $4 brunch cocktails are a great value where they don't shortchange you at all. Highly recommend the avocado toast if you are gluten free or the fried chicken and waffles if you want enough food for both brunch and a mid afternoon snack!
Great menu for anyone who is gluten free, vegan or just wants a large variety of healthy options. The host and server both greeted us immediately upon arrival. The beverage and food service was quick as well! Overall a great experience I would definitely come back for brunch, lunch or dinner!
Stopped by after reading their sign claiming to be voted #2 brunch in NJ. Service was slow and inconsistent. I ordered a western omelet that came with raw onions and peppers. The bread was cooler than room temperature and the potatoes were either store bought frozen or had been cooked several times with raw peppers thrown in to make it appear to be fresh. They were so hard, you could not stick them with a fork.
I should have known better.
Arrived early. Seated right away. Brunch and lunch menu with many choices. All 4 enjoyed their meal. $4 brunch drinks. Sat and talked after meal with no pressure to move on. Great food and service! Would love to come back and have recommended to others already.
Attractive corner bistro with a warm and cozy atmosphere. The host was welcoming and seated us immediately upon arrival. Our waiter was also very friendly and informative which was impressive considering he seemed to be covering many tables.
The menu is varied and offers many options including vegetarian selections that the waiter said could be tweaked to vegan. The chickpeas with mortar and pestle (make your own humus) was disappointing. With no oil or seasonings the dry mash was tasteless. The guacamole was better but a very small portion with only ~ 9 corn chips on the plate. Members of our party who had the Chicken Sauvignon and the wedge salad with crab cake sliders said they were good except for the french fries that accompanied the sliders which did not even measure up to McDonalds. Seriously? Good frites should be Bistro 101 for a chef! The roasted brussel sprouts were very good and roasted vegetable salad was generous in portion and good. We did not have dessert.
This neighborhood bistro works for a quick bite after work with colleagues but I would not recommend it for a weekend night out with friends or a special occasion. There is just nothing remarkable or memorable about the experience.
Four of us had brunch here on Easter. I liked the small plates the most. Deviled eggs with crab, tuna tartare, and risotto cakes were great. They also had $4 brunch cocktails such as Bloody Mary's or Bellinis. The better entrees were the risotto and the shrimp and grits. Good service and outdoor seating if you'd like. We'll be back!
