Ambrozia Bar and Bistro Ratings and Reviews
We had a great time! Wednesday half price bottles of wine so we had a lot of fun!
We just ordered off the bar menu, which was very good. The restaurant menu looked great though. Overall we had a great time and we will go again. Good to have something on the North side of town that isn't pizza or mexican!
A study in blandness. I had noticed that Ambrosia changed its dinner menu. I had never been too excited about its previous menu, so I had high expectations.
I really wanted to like it. For me, it's one of our few neighborhood restaurants. Unfortunately, my expectations were dashed.
The chile relleno was beautifully fried, but it had no taste. Worse, the accompanying sauce was more like a marinara sauce which is completely inappropriate for a Mexican relleno. One dining companion ordered fried chicken and found the sauce to be strange and, of course, bland. My first course was grilled octopus and fingerling potatoes. The octopus tasted exactly the same as smoked oysters in a tin. All of the entrees were in the $25 range (cheap in NYC, but expensive for Asheville).
Sadly, I cannot recommend this restaurant.
We will be making the drive from south to north Asheville frequently in the future. Excellent food, with extra little touches to make it remarkable (fried clams atop the already clam rich chowder; tender shiitakes with the Bison Short Ribs; crispy bacon and a perfect poached egg on the sautéed brussel sprouts.) Good sized dining rooms, plenty of free parking, and knowledgeable friendly service made for a perfect evening.
We all had the burger special for that evening. beer and burger $10. This included the veggie burger which pleased my husband. Our server, Eligiah, who we had had on a previous visit, was again superb. He was engaging, attentive, pleasant and fun. The burgers were great. They did mess up our order a bit. I was supposed to have a med burger and it came with a medium well. which is what my friend ordered. She got my medium burger and enjoyed it. She had ordered hers with a regular bun and I wanted the gluten free bun.
We've been wanting to try this restaurant for some time. Having heard good things about it we invited another couple. The food was fair.. not terrible and not terribly good. My duck leg was ok but the ravioli that accompanied it were tough and not very flavorful. My husband had the Chile Relleno, again just fair. For the price these dishes should have blown us away.
I recently went to Ambrozia Bar and Bistro with my girlfriend and had an absolutely lovely experience. The duck confit was impeccable and I know the trout my girlfriend had was as well. Nice ambiance to the restaurant setting and a definite professional dining experience.
We been to Ambrozia a few times over the years, but for some reason, this time was the best. The food was creatively prepared and delicious. My duck confit had a few dry parts, but better than many I've had in Asheville. The chile relleno was amazing. It did not seem as noisy as previously, I don't know if it was where we sat or they've done something, but we were happy to be able to have a conversation without shouting.
A group of 18 needed a place that could accommodate us on short notice. I went on Open Table and found Ambrozia. We were seated shortly after arrival, and the service was prompt and capable. Everyone in our party was complimentary on my restaurant choice. Not many restaurants are able to serve such a big group well. Thank you so much!
Also, they had $2 local draft beers, which really helped keep the tab low even with a bunch of 20-something drinkers in the group.
We went when Ambrozia opened the first week and they stumbled - badly. At the urging of
friends we met them there for dinner probably 10 months later and Ambrozia had worked out all the kinks and it was a great evening. Now usually there a couple times a month and it is always terrific, nightly specials, interesting wine list and custom cocktails, service is always top notch.
