Amberjax Fish Market Grill at Trinity Groves Ratings and Reviews
I ordered the jalapeño cheese grits, collard grits and blackened Mahi Mahi with bay scallop crudo. The scallop crudo was a tad bit too tart but its nothing to ruin the dish. I still ate everything on my plate. :-) The grits were cooked properly. They were not lumpy, chewy or crunch. They were perfect. The collards impeccable as well. For dessert I ordered key lime pie. I took it to-go. The next day I ate the dessert and the filling was custardy, sweet, and delightful with a homemade graham cracker crust. This place always gets it right.
This was our second trip to Amberjax to be disappointed. I will say that both of the fish dishes we ordered were great! The fish portions were a bit small, but not unreasonable. And the flavors and preparation were really wonderful. However, the sides were tiny and the service was really spotty. We never got a pitcher of water that they include on every table and never got the salad that we ordered. Also, it's rare to complain of getting food too fast, but we were shocked at how fast our entrees came out, of course skipping right over that salad. It just felt like we were being rushed in and then rushed out. Not what you expect for this price point.
I live in McKinney, but we were going to a concert in Grand Prairie, so this restaurant in Trinity Groves just off Singleton was a perfect spot to dine on the way. The seafood was excellent and the service was very good. I definitely will be back and have already recommended it to some friends.
We were there for lunch on a Friday so didn't have a lot of time. The service was terrible! She didn't know the answer to any question we asked her about pricing on the specials and kept having to go ask. She brought the wrong food out and everything took forever. We were there an hour and a half and were all late getting back to work. It was slow when we got there too! I'd go somewhere else for seafood again.
Just caught them on a sub-par night. Made last minute reservations on Open Table but probably not really necessary as the place was pretty empty. Waiter was friendly but inattentive. Kept leaving when we tried to ask questions. Ordered two glasses of house wine but he didn't tell us a whole bottle was only $36 so we had to go find him to change the order. No prices for specials on the board so meal was a little pricey for two. But the food was good tasty and fresh. I had a great grouper special that had only a bit too much of the blueberry sauce on top. The wife's salmon was a very generous amount. I like that you get to pick two sides. Only other complaint was that they don't cover the windows during the setting sun so I couldn't see my table mates for some of my meal.
This restaurant is way overpriced for quality of food they are serving. I was drawn into the salmon dish because it touted a tomato butter. Unfortunately the tomato butter was completely flavorless. There was so little of the sauce provided I had to dab my fingertip in it to even try it. That was a wasted effort.
The chicken and sausage gumbo was disappointing. My cup of gumbo did not contain a single piece of chicken and whatever the brown meat was that was in it tasted like The "beef" in Campbell's canned vegetable soup.
My salmon was cooked to order, but it was under seasoned. The highlights of the meal were the pink Muscato wine and our friends.
I will say the staff here is very attentive. However, when our server split our checks in half, we found that she left the full gratuity suggestions for the charges on BOTH of the checks. (We really hope this was an oversight, but can't see how.) She ended up with gratuity for an almost $200 tab, TWICE.
We very much enjoyed Amberjax. The food was great all around. My wife had the catfish...perfectly cooked and well seasoned. I had the Amberjack special... fantastic. We also shared some gumbo...as good as it gets. Veronica, out waitress couldn't have been nicer or more attentive. We plan to be back.
I think the prices have increased! It has been a while since we visited Amberjacks, and we remember it as being good fresh fish and super value for money. We were happy to report that the fish is good, but the prices seem to be at Dallas fancy restaurants rate.
Everything about the experience is noteworthy. The location, the setting, the staff and service, and, of course, the food. We had the crab cake flight and the chicken and sausage gumbo as appetizers, and the Oraking salmon and the Cobia entrees. The preparation was done to perfection, and the presentations were artful without hindering the eating process. Our server, Noe, was first class, taking time to explain everything and check in with us throughout the meal, without neglecting any of his other tables. A wonderful experience and I highly recommend Amberjacks Grille to anyone looking for a fine meal and great seafood.
My husband I decided to give Amberjax a try for our wedding anniversary. He usually doesn't care much for seafood, but he really enjoyed the fish and chips and even said he'd return. We had shrimp cocktail which was great and I really liked their salmon tacos. We'll be back!
This has been my go to spot for business lunches. Usually the food is terrific. On my recent visit, the quality and preparation of the food did not live up to their usual standards. The salmon was undercooked and the oysters were the smallest I've ever had. The food was just not very good. Our server was terrific as always. She knew the food wasn't their norm and offered us free deserts. My hope is that this visit was just an off day as I usually really like this spot.
We've been there several times and always enjoy the food. It does not have a huge menu, but has good quality and always a big board of specials. The wine list is always good with different wines mixed in there and not the standard offerings you see at most restaurants. My latest dinner consisted of blackened Trout with cajun creole sauce, jalapeno cheese grits and red beans and rice and a bottle of chardonnay from Oregon. All really good.
First time customer but we will be back. The service staff was friendly and well trained in their menu knowledge and then the menu selections were absolutely remarkable. The food taste, temperature and presentation were spot-on. I sincerely recommend Amberjax Fish Market to everyone that loves GREAT seafood.
Amberjax Fish Market Grill provides fresh, quality fish at reasonable prices. Lots of options - from oysters, scallops, shrimp - grilled or fried - to fish that is flown in daily. We had grilled Mahi Mahi and Copper River Salmon on our visit - excellent. Great sides to choose from - entrees come with two sides. Just a very friendly easy going outstanding restaurant.
