Amber is an Asian restaurant that specializes in Japanese and Asian fusion cuisine. The restaurant also boasts its own sushi bar which offers fresh sushi daily. The appetizers on the menu feature Asian classics such as spring rolls, pan fried dumplings, tempura and also a Vietnamese roll and Indian pancakes which come with a potato curry dipping sauce. Ambers wok and grill dishes include items that appeal to vegans and meat lovers both such as steamed vegetables, Tangerine chicken, duck and whole red snapper.
All of the main dishes come with a choice of sides which include plain white or brown rice, ginger, spicy mayo and hot sauce. Besides appetizers, diners also have a choice between three traditional soups at Amber namely miso, seafood soup as well as a shrimp and pork wonton soup. Salads come with their own dressing and are made from fresh ingredients.
For $17 you get a wonderful entrée, miso soup, salad, rice and mini rolls AND two free drinks - wine or Bellinis. The price of two drinks alone is worth the $17. Excellent food (Thai-Japanese, Vietnam kind of menu) and great views through the font windows of Columbus Avenue.
Very good sushi, nice sixe portions in a comfortable setting. Good value too. Nothing to complain about.
Hadn't been here before, but was very pleasantly surprised! The sushi was fresh and delicious, the service was very friendly and courteous, and the prices were reasonable. I would definitely go back!
Amber West was the perfect choice for my going away party Saturday night. I'm glad I made the reservation for 8 ahead of time. The food was delicious. My friends and I had a lovely time.
Had a quiet dinner. Service was very prompt and courteous. Good portions of sushi. Very reasonably priced.
Not our first visit but perhaps our last. No lights on the tables so it was impossible to read the menus. We had to use the flashlights on our phones. Our server was either ignorant of the whiskeys available or thought we were too ignorant to notice. We ordered a specific scotch and a specific bourbon. The scotch was watered down and a different brand and the bourbon was a cheap replacement. Turns out the restaurant didn't stock either brand we ordered but she never bothered to check. Or if she did, she didn't bother to tell us. The food was good, but playing us for fools made it clear we won't return.
The food at Amber is consistently delicious. It is one of our favorites. The Sangria Duck, Pad Thai, and California Rolls are the best. However, no matter what you order, you cannot go wrong.
After having some both very good and relatively poor, American-ized sushi in NYC, I figured I would give a few places in upper east side a try. I was pleasantly surprised by Amber West. They had a great location and the venue itself is very good. My server was prompt and the food was excellent.
When making a reservation, request to be seated in the back room. The sushi was solid but not spectacular. The waitstaff seemed annoyed to answer questions so weren't as helpful as they could be. :-/
Having have dined several times in the front/street side section of the restaurant I was pleasantly surprised to discover the large, comfortable, and well appointed back dining room. Our New Year's Eve dinner, for a party of four, was thoroughly enjoyable. All the dishes were well prepared, and the service was attentive. I would go back to Amber West for a quick dinner or special occasion.
We have enjoyed Amber on numerous occasions. It's an ideal spot for a quick dinner prior to taking in a movie nearby at the 68th St and Broadway. Last Friday, new Years eve, we came by at 6PM, ordered our appetizers which came in minutes. We then ordered our entrees and waitred. After 15 minutes, we told the sever we were trying to make a movie. Fifteen minutes later, still no service. We told them to pack up the dinner to go, paid the check and left. This was the first time the service was poor. Hopefully, it won't happen again.
always reliable and dependable for delicious 'Asian fusion fare and drink at decent prices with
Sushi comes out quickly, appetizers are OK but often not generous in size or quantity. The place is usually crowded. Momoya, further uptown on Amsterdam, is much, much better (but they are NOT on OpenTable - boo-boo!).
We will be back again the next time we are in town.
I was so pleased with the food and service at Amber. Discovered they have a great lunch special. A must visit during the week!
The hostesses and bartenders at Amber were a truly attractive bunch and the restaurant has a nice vibe- busy but not overwhelming. We ordered some hot appetizers and a large plate of sushi for three people. The duck spring rolls were fatty and stringy but being duck still had decent flavor. The shrimp tempura however was another thing. With no discernible shrimp flavor this was a rock-hard cylinder of gritty, tasteless fried dough. I can just imagine the same thing wrapped in rice for the tempura roll but thankfully we didn't order that. The sushi was nicely presented and just fair as flavor goes. Nothing special but not terrible either. If you go stick to sushi.
Amber serves Asian Fusion dishes.
I eat on the enclosed terrace which is not particularly special but is much quieter than their very attractive dining room. The service is fine
and the food very well done. I have enjoyed their Sashimi & Sushi which is beautifully presented. Their Pad Thai and Satay is also delicious.
Everyone I have dined with here has been pleased with their choices. The prices are definitely fair.
I recommend this for lunch or dinner.
Good food, fast & friendly but not in-your-face service. Dessert menu wasn't outstanding but the sushi and miso soup were great.
This restaurant is very nice, food was good and so was the service. The only problem was that they have a B rating from NYC Dept. of Health, which I saw only after I arrived to the restaurant. I usually do not eat in any place that does not have an A rating.
Only can speak about the Pad Thai. Was good but there are much better places in the neighborhood for this dish. Service and atmosphere were both good. I wish Open Table would give restaurant NYC Health Settings. The person I was with does not want to eat at restaurants with other than an "A."
Food quality is fine, wouldn't refuse to eat anything, and I'm a sushi eater. It's just fine, and given the price point, about what I'd expect in NYC. Anything lower quality for this price would not make the grade. But the service was poor: forgot items and drinks completely, didn't return regularly. Granted, it was a very, very quiet night for them, but I would think this would motivate them to be even more attentive. Not the case.
I come frequently because I work nearby. Good people, good food, never overly crowded or noisy. It's not the type of place you write home about, but a good neighborhood place that is consistent with their quality and friendly atmosphere.
Have been to the restaurant before. If this was not an off night it means the place is not worth going to anymore. Service not attentive, food poor - too much sweet sauce, bland seasoning and less than fresh fish. very disappointed.
Reasonably priced, well presented and tasty. Enjoyed everything I ate. I had a house cocktail that was delicious. I would definitely go back to Amber West again.
Amber has a terrific lunch special during the week
I met a date there for a first meeting. It is a nice place. Great atmosphere. romantic. were able to talk comfortably. Not too loud. Will definitely go again.
The food is better than the service. The waitstaff appear disorganized and unfocused.
Good place to go if you can't get a reservation else where. Presentation was good. Not many vegetarian selections. The food was okay but not great.
The best kept secret about this place isn't the "view of Columbus Avenue" comings and goings on the fashionable UWS around the corner from the The Dakota. It's the back room (and a huge, expansive room at that with a giant Buddha and a koi pond!) with's its dark, cozy setting and exposed brick. Cooked and raw Japanese dishes are prepared with finesse here and there are no surprises. Bar scene seems rollicking but the back room feels like you're eating in an exotic museum restaurant far away from NYCl; it's a very cool and inviting space.
Very rude when it was time to close.. Me and my husband had bought a bottle if wine they tried taking that but only got away with the candle light that was on the table for our dinner. Tsk tsk tsk.
Food and portions wonderful. Well prepared. Try the back large dining room.
Worth a try.
Nice choice for upper west side . I order sushi and sashimi for 2 and was very good. Try a norte of hot sake!
Food excellent. Choice of appetizers, entrees - good mix.
Excellent, unique and inventive sushi rolls. Some of the best specialty rolls in the city. Definitely a great place to go for Sushi. Service and atmosphere are good also! The big highlight however is the specialty sushi!
The food is consistently delicious and plentiful. We went on a Thursday night and sat in the back room which was quiet even though there many diners there. It is one of our favorite restaurants.
We loved it! Lively, professional, and delicious veg options....
Great place to dine before a show. Chicken lettuce wrap appetizer was a hearty serving with a medley of flavors. Shrimp and pork dumplings were delicate in ginger soy sauce. Salmon with avocado and asparagus was very filling. Would be great for a group to share. Real fusion menu. You can sit indoors near a window, hang out at the bar or dine in the rear. Always pleased with service.
The service was excellent, as was the food. Very happy with our experience – will definitely be back at Amber sometime soon.
good fare at fair prices with sometimes a too loud noise level; wish they could create something more to absorb sound so that
one could carry on a conversation without shouting.
while food, was good, service was slow and I expressed concern that we might not be able to eat our mains due to how long everything took. Our server was going to pack it for us to take if it wasn't right out (not at all our preference) all the while promising it would be right out( it wasn't) and we had a show to catch. We gave our meal 1 1/2 hours which was more than enough time. We were stressed and had to practically run to our destination.
