Amber is an Asian restaurant that specializes in Japanese and Asian fusion cuisine. The restaurant also boasts its own sushi bar which offers fresh sushi daily. The appetizers on the menu feature Asian classics such as spring rolls, pan fried dumplings, tempura and also a Vietnamese roll and Indian pancakes which come with a potato curry dipping sauce. Ambers wok and grill dishes include items that appeal to vegans and meat lovers both such as steamed vegetables, Tangerine chicken, duck and whole red snapper.
All of the main dishes come with a choice of sides which include plain white or brown rice, ginger, spicy mayo and hot sauce. Besides appetizers, diners also have a choice between three traditional soups at Amber namely miso, seafood soup as well as a shrimp and pork wonton soup. Salads come with their own dressing and are made from fresh ingredients.
While the food is very good, the restaurant is poorly decorated, worn, a bit shabby and very noisy. Best to get take out here.
Average sushis (exclusively tuna and salmon in the Brunch Deluxe), cold Miso soup, fountain sodas and beers , overpriced, rude waitress, no kids menu at brunch... I did leave 8% tip only and it was already very generous from me. Not recommended!
Amber is a top pick for brunch before heading over to Lincoln Center. The menu is great and the price is right.
This is our favorite Asian Fusion restaurant. The food is consistently good. The back room has a big Buddha statue and has a different feel than the dining area in the front that looks at on the street.
I was born in NYC. My husband lived there 40 years so we accept him as a New Yorker. We now live in Sarasota, FL, where the food and music equal that in NYC in both quality and quantity. But, when we go back to NYC, for work or play, we head to Amber. It's become our favorite NYC Asian restaurant. We dive into the whole fried snapper and crave it when we're not in town. Everything's good but that dish is exceptional. Can't find it anywhere else. It's crispy, not greasy in any way, spicy and crave-producing. Also love the sushi, dumplings and veggies. Great restaurant. Wish they'd open a branch in Sarasota.
Amber is always a reliable choice for sushi or fusion. Cocktails are amazing, prices are very good, especially at lunch or happy hour.
it is a mix of Thai, chinese and japanese so perfect for us since i do not enjoy sushi
excellent Thai green curry and my god daughter loved the sushi
I love Amber-West! One of my favorite go-to sushi restaurants!
We ate here before going to a performance at Lincoln center. Very nice choice although they push you out of the restaurant very fast.
I wish I could say that Amber-West lived up to the diner reviews I had read but although the ambience and the service were both very good, the food was only fair. The pad thai, recommended to us by our waiter, was so-so. If that's as good as it gets, it isn't worth going back to try something else, especially if you're a foodie.
Don't bother, there are other sushi/japanese that are alot better.
glad to have found this very pleasant place.
Amber is my go to place for sushi, always a great meal.
Amazing attentive service. Great authentic Thai. The sushi was amazing!
This place is very hot - the online reviews were phenomenal, and the bar was abuzz when I walked in. The setting is very attractive - modern with a touch of tradition. The meal was above average - quite honestly, i've had better sushi, but this was clearly a step above the two others I've tried in the neighborhood, and it's probably now my favorite sushi place around Lincoln Center.
One of our usual haunts...the lunch specials are a terrific bargain. Sashimi, soup and salad for around 15.00. I always like the tempura shrimp, w vegetables, spring roll soup and salad 12.00
Everything terrific . For uws its a steal.
The menu has been revamped to reflect more sushi choices but there are still some of their cooked dishes from which to choose if you like. When the noise level is down as it was this time, it was truly pleasant and the greeting from everyone when you enter is always welcome as well as the attentive service.
Fairly priced and great tasting food. Will be back.
Open Table reservations worked like a charm. Great ambience, food & service. Ask for water as it was not offered and it was extra warm in there. Great place, would go back any time.
the menu, food and drink here are very good and the service is above average but too many times as of late, the space has been much too noisy as there is nothing in the back room to absorb sound and this will most likely prevent us from returning after many years of dining here and introducing many people to this place. too, too bad.
It used to be great. The food is not good anymore.
Service was attentive and polite. The food was well presented and enjoyable.
All aspects were great and their rolls were unique and not the same old same old....
Everything we had was too expensive given the quality--nothing was great. It was all fine and totally serviceable, but the bill was far more than I would have wanted to pay for that food.
The experience here is a bit hit and miss depending on what you order. Service is very good and ambience is fine but but the food is dumbed down asian once you get past the sushi selsection
It is wonderful to have a restaurant you know you can always count on for a terrific meal and this is one.
Try the Ocean roll. It's fantastic.
Amber West is always reliable for delicious food, good service in a nice environment.
Don't expect great wine, but the food is great.
The food at Amber's West is very tasty. This was my second time coming here and had a good experience. The servers are very friendly. The restaurant is a little too dark, but not so dark that you can't see your food. The portions are a lot, which is good because you can share your plate. I will definitely recommend this place to a friend.
Usually a reliable neighborhood favorite for sushi and other Asian fusion, but not tonight. The sushi chef,s special was terrible. Extremely thin tasteless cuts that left me hungry. Not as reliable as it used to be,o
We came Saturday for lunch but were told-no lunch menu just brunch. (this was not clear on the website). But brunch was very generous soup, salad, appetizer main course and TWO drinks. Since we had to go to a show at 200 P.M. we only took one alcoholic drink and tea. Not too many people in the restaurant. The food e.g. basil chicken, sushi was very good.
Excellent for people who don't want an eggy brunch.
Another great dinner at Amber..complimentary edamame to start and green tea ice cream to finish is a much appreciated special touch. That plus super friendly service and delicious food make Amber our go to spot for sushi- thank you!!
Went to amber-west on a Friday with a 4 friends. We were a little early for our reservation and they entire party wasn't there yet but they sat us anyway because there wasn't room for us at the bar. We ordered a few sushi rolls and a sushi/sashimi platter for two. All was quite good, and the fish was fresh but it just wasn't anything really special especially considering the price and size of the rolls. All and all though I would go back and recommend it to a friend.
We were a bit late and they were very accommodating and still got us out in time for our show. Wonderful tempura, and sushi rolls!
Absolutely love the restaurant, the food, the staff, the wine.... my two favorite dishes are the Tangerine Chicken and the Chicken pad Thai... sooooo good!
They open at 5pm for dinner, but we happen to walk in an hr and they still let us sit down which was great. i ordered the "champagne teaser" from the cocktail menu that was just some bubbly with dried cranberries. i like champagne so it was ok. I had the duck spring rolls but most of the meat inside was fat in mine. for dinner i had the angry bird which was topped with a yummy lobster salad but over all the sushi was OK. the pineapple fried rice was OK, ive had better. prices were moderate. if you want an experience, sit all the way in the back of the restaurant.
Sushi was fair. Nothing to write about. Did not feel fresh to us. Would not go back. Not worth the money.
Food and service was very good but had noisy kids there that was disruptive.
Excellent Thai dishes. Service was occasionally attentive.
What a surprise find! After being in the neighborhood for years we finally went inside--and loved it! We want to go back soon.
