Amber West Village
We turn the art of eating, whether by yourself or with a group of friends into an experience which will never be forgotten. The decor, friendly staff together with our cuisine is what has made us a beloved favorite.
Our delicious cuisine combines the bold flavors of Asia with delicate french essences. Our menu is served family style which creates a magical experience.
Our sushi was delicious! Our server was kind and gave us time to order drinks, then appetizers and let us decide what we wanted with leisure. The atmosphere was cool but nothing over done. We really enjoyed and would recommend. Good sushi for a decent price.
I recently met a close friend for dinner here, and was pleasantly surprised with how much I loved this place. From the bartender to the wait staff to the quality of the sushi, it was a great experience. I would DEFINITELY come back!
We had the tuna pancake, golden dragon and calamari. Can say it's not authentic Asian nor japanese but it's not bad overall.
Food was great, service was nice. Would definitely go back again.
Request to be seated in the front, lively section and not the cold back storage room
Great staff and service!
Amazing value for the quality provided. Ate with a bunch of friends and all came away pretty satisfied with the taste of the food.
Excellent Asian fusion fare- delicious sushi and friendly staff
Best sushi in lower Manhattan- I’m from vancouver Canada and found it hard to find delicious, fresh, creative sushi. This place is incredible. The tuna pancake is a must have. So is the lobster kiwi roll. Just incredible.
Great music, amazing food, and service.
Fabulous food, sushi and other Asian flavours, we really enjoyed it and so did our 8-year old son!
Foods good. They sat us in the back room that felt a little like a dungeon and was freezing (literally like ten degrees colder than the front part of the restaurant) think service was also slower being stuck back there.
I choose this place because of it's convenience to where I intended to be later to see theatre, and had no or low expectations. The eggplant appetizer was amazing. really. not too sweet and well cooked and not burned -- really amazing. the rolls we had were great. the staff exceptionally sweet. it was a surprise. I would go back!
also I'm not 'young' so. it's a plus that we could talk without having to shout.
Passable sushi in brick covered restaurant..but with loud blaring radio music. Not much authentic about it. Passable eel roll.
Probably will not return.
Amber West has, hands down, the best sushi in NYC! We have been going there for years before going to the Lucille Lortel Theater. Will be sure to make a special trips from UES just for their food now that MCC is moving their location from the West Village. The freshness of the food, the presentation, the variety of menu selections -- all are superb. Good work, Amber West!
Das Essen ist O.K.! Wenn man jedoch auf der Suche nach guten und authentischen Sushi ist, ist man hier falsch.
Delicious food and great service. A place worth visiting again
This place was great! Riny was an exceptional waitress!!
Good food, but our soft drinks were watered down. Also, there was a table near us that was absolutely so loud that we couldn’t hear anyone else!
Not good. Just mediocre food. Rolls were fishy. Would NOT recommend
Let me say first, this review is less about the food but is based on my experience of being a 15+ year OpenTable user and loyal customer (of both the restaurant and the service). I had received the first of the newer OpenTable rewards ‘cards’ and was excited to use it at Amber, since I visit frequently and enjoy their sushi for its good quality and relative value.
On this visit, however, the experience was far from enjoyable. Upon being seated I shared a print out of my rewards card, as instructed by OpenTable. The manager / proprietor was very quick to tell me this was all wrong and would not be accepted because she only knew of the real cards and believed they had a contract with the service in terms of fulfillment. She then phoned OpenTable, which took at least 20 minutes, and of course returns saying all is well and may I take your order.
As I wrote above, the food was delicious but perhaps because I was using the reward, I received absolutely no attention from any server (had to flag someone down after several minutes of trying to get someone’s attention so I could order a glass of wine then finally O asked for the check (this too took quite a while since nobody was paying much attention to the woman using a rewards card). Check arrived, and no accommodation towards the reward had been made so I had to clear that up, once again. Basically, through the entire process i was made to feel very unwelcome, and like an a**hole for daring to use the reward. Either use the service and be prepared to fulfill your pet of the deal, or stop using it. I’ve been a loyal diner since I moved back to he city last October, but this sadly has made me think twice about returning.
Hit or miss on the food items. Wait staff was not as attentive as one would hope for.
We were there on a quieter night with not so many customers. The service was fast and attentive. The sushi was good — nothing particularly exceptional stands out. I’d go back but I would probably also seek out some other sushi restaurants to explore before making a return visit.
Great food and service-reasonably priced! Sushi was excellent!
A really nice surprise..... yummy food. Enjoy!
Great food, quick service, cool ambiance, and pretty reasonably priced for the quality of food
Had a great meal and service for a greet price!
The sushi did not compare to the higher-end sushi bars that you can find in the rest of NYC, but the dumplings were splendid and the service was exceptional. Good if you're looking for a last second sushi place in Greenwich Village
Great ambience and well priced!
Great waitress and food came out very fresh and fast!
My table got 2 sashimi plates - one regular, one special. They were both delicious! The sashimi was fresh, and the pieces were generous. Overall, good value for the cost. Their cocktails were also great!
Small and noisy on a Saturday night, but the double dragon roll and shrimp dumplings were fantastic. Obviously popular with the local crowd.
EXCELLENT SPOT FOR A QUICK DINNER BEFORE THEATRE AT LUCILLE LORTELL. TERRIFIC APPETIZERS WHICH WE USED AS OUR WHOLE DINNER. GOOD VALUE WITH HAPPY HOUR DRINKS.
Been to many sushi restaurants and this is one of the very best. Nice-sized slices of sushi/sashimi, and served at the proper (not cold!) temperature. Love the interior design, brick and wood walls and lighting. Well worth the subway from Midtown.
We had four very different dishes and each one was prepared perfectly and very tasty. The prices are reasonable and the food is terrific.
Some of the best sushi I've had in NYC ! All the food was very high quality and still incredibly reasonable. The Golden Dragon roll was in particular such a creative combination of flavors and so delicious, but everything was great. Nice atmosphere as well. New favorite sushi spot !
Food was prompt and tasty. Everything super fresh. Staff was polite and efficient.
Good, fresh sushi, good green tea, and amazing dessert with matcha green tea icecream.
Nice atmosphere, quiet on Sunday, but I suspect it might be more crowded on other nights.
Oftentimes large parties are difficult to handle but the staff got everyone’s order without a hitch and were attentive - 10 of us. The food was fresh and visually great. Two people thought their food was bland and not particularly flavourful. For example, the summer roll was missing the mint. All in all , you can’t beat it the value and ambiance in a neighborhood that’s becoming full of pricey restaurants.
