A friend and I shared a sushi/sashimi combination. It was incredibly fresh and delicious, and I was stuffed when I left. The service was extremely nice and personable. A really great experience. I highly recommend it.
good for neighborhood sushi and nice having staff know what you like
Enjoy this local sushi restaurant, however, the service on our last visit was NOT GOOD! We were only 1 of 2 tables in the restaurant and everything took FOREVER. The table next to us ended up sending part of their order back as it took so long and then asked for their check and left, quite disappointed.
This is our neighborhood sushi place, so hopefully, this was just an odd/off night for them.
Best appetizers of this kind on UES. Usually the sushi is amazing but for the first time in the so many times we have been there I was disappointed. The sushi was cut thicker than usual which made it chewy and uncomfortable. Fresh sushi has been the hallmark of Amber’s menu but this batch didn’t quite work for me.
Decent Japanese on the upper east side. Not the best, but certainly not the worst. Stick with appetizers and hot dishes. The rolls are not great all the time and the sushi is cut very, very thin and many times not too flavorful.
Great neighborhood sushi standard. Nice to walk in and have servers that have known our family for years, know what we like to eat, and treat us well. Always look forward to some good sashimi & sushi.
always very good food, service, etc. much better than other neighborhood sushi restaurants
My friend and I enjoyed a selection of appetizers - duck, spring rolls, scallion pancake, shrimp, etc. - for dinner before going to see a performance at a nearby community theatre. I was disappointed in the slow service; other than that, the staff was friendly and knowledgeable and we enjoyed our meal.
Great sushi place!! Plenty of food and very good price.
Sat in back room— quieter. VERY varied menu. Rolls (Spider and Oyster) were very good!
Wife and I were walking through Central Park and needed some food nearby. This place was great, service, food, atmosphere. We will definitely be back.
Very bad sashimi Chef,s choice
It looks like that chef doesn’t feel Japanese cuisine
Great neighborhood restaurant. Have been coming here for many years. There's something on the menu for everyone, no matter how picky they are.
Awesome Lychee martinis.
The Sushi was great, the wine per glass was also fine, the service impecable:) Will come back!
The service was so great! And we enjoyed the food there.
Amber simply serves best sashimi in NYC. Broad, flat slices of fresh fish (instead of the usual thick clumps more commonly found in other sushi restaurants), laid artfully against a bed of shredded white radish. Delicious -- the flavor explodes in your mouth. The rest of their sushi menu is impeccably prepared and just as tasty. I know there are other, more ballyhooed, sushi joints in town, but try Amber. I have a feeling you'll agree!
Good, not great sushi. The food & decor are getting a little boring & maybe not quite as good quality as before. We go to have sushi. Needs a little more creativity, but generally a good neighborhood place for fairly reasonable sushi.
We've been to Amber several time and the food and service is always spot on.
They have something for everyone! The team that works there are really nice.
Got sick off the tuna in sushi
Great fresh sushi
Appetizers felt like they from another place (eg tartare felt pre made too long ago)
got spoiled uni
Good food great value! lunch special had many choices.
The food there was delicious and service was so good!
I have never had a bad meal here! The staff is friendly. The sushi is great! The appetizers are not to be passed over!
Was a too destination for us in the past. Unfortunately food quality has come down tremendously. A shame it happened, but like anything, competition will pull us away to their sushi locales. Fish in the sushi insipid, bad quality, even the edemame was old.
Our local neighborhood favorite for sushi. Servers all know us & what we like to order.
I have never had a bad meal here. Friendly staff. Equally friendly patrons. And best sushi on upper east side!!!
I went with two friends and we loved the ambiance, the service and the food. One of my friends got the drunken noodles, I got the spicy roll combo and my other friend got a sushimi platter. Everything was excellent and served very tastefully. I highly recommend this restaurant!
This was a promoted restaurant. Service was good, food for price and creativity wasn't as high a quality as I would have expected.
Good tasting Sushi platters at reasonable prices. Service is also good. Will definitely repeat.
Still a great experience, we have been coming back for years. Good sushi and the tangerine chicken is our favourite!
Love this place especially the back room and of course the food fragrant and tasty.
We dine here frequently. Excellent food and service.
Very enjoyable service very good. Will recommend friends to go and will go back again
Everything here is great. Excellent food and service!!!!
Remains best sushi around. Relaxed and reasonably priced.
i ordered combination fish ceviche.. what came out was completely something different..
When i said : this must be mistake, this is nothing close to ceviche.. had one shrimp and in fact the vegetables were pan fried/sauteed ..
The establishment insisted that it was ceviche and kept arguing..
I know a ceviche.. i asked them : define for me what ceviche is or look up in Wikipedia.
They could not.
When the restaurant doesn't know what they are doing and then goes on to argue with customer... it's never a winning combination !
Always reliable sushi and asian food specialties. Good service and friendly vibe
Interesting, large and eclectic menu, combining sushi-centered Japanese with Asian Fusion and some original dishes. The rear dining room is beautiful, with high ceiling and skylight.
