Friendly staff, delicious goulash, interesting wine list. Would return!
Amazing food, amazing service, and amazing family restaurant. Love this place!
We are long time Amber fans and supporters overall, so I want to be careful with this review. The staff is amazing and we love the ambiance, especially the back patio in the summer. However, we were so disappointed with Mother's Day Brunch. It was $47.50 per head and the food was not only incredibly limited, but it was cold and dried up for the most part. I'm wondering if maybe there was not much kitchen oversight that day, or if there were not enough customers to keep the food moving through? They would have been better off just offering their regular menu. If we are paying almost $50 per head for a buffet in the suburbs, we expect a really nice spread! Many places also offer a free mimosa to moms - not the case here. We ended up with a $330 bill for 5 of us and all walked away hungry. I'm hoping this was a fluke and they will do better going forward.
We love the new menu. Something a little different from the usual dining options, from main courses to desserts and wines.
Chris served a fantastic meal to us. Everything was perfect!
Outstanding food and service at Amber on a Friday night. Matt was an excellent server, anticipating our needs, and offering great recommendations for both food and wine. The beef special was so flavorful and the salmon and whitefish entrees were cooked perfectly and had delicious sides of corn risotto and pearl cous cous. We will be back to Amber soon!
We have always enjoyed Amber Cafe. When they opened after the remodel they also had a new menu. The menu looks great. I had the Hungarian Goulash and my wife had the Lamb special. Both were outstanding. Really like the new menu.
We have visited Amber before and have always enjoyed dining there. We particularly like the fact that they vary their menu and have interesting and delicious specials. This time the meat salad and bread were an added bonus, excellent! We were given just the right amount of talk time and we especially like the attention to presentation, our appetizer of a crab cake was a bit of art. Good food, excellent service and quiet atmosphere. Highly recommended.
We reserved a table last minute because we happened to be in the area (not where we live) and we were celebrating our anniversary. The server was amazing and made us feel very special. Food was delicious. Restaurant has Serbian specialties so I ordered Goulash which was yummy. I asked for a side of vegetables and was pleasantly surprised to receive perfectly grilled zucchini, squash and asparagus instead of the usual sauced or overly steamed veggies served elsewhere.
Additionally the restaurant served us a special dessert for our anniversary. We had never been there before and made our reservation last minute, but we were treated like kid friends. Will definitely return next time we are in the area.
Amber is open once again, with a new chef and some creative and delicious new items on the menu, with an Eastern European bent. A Russian vegetable salad (like a mustard egg salad with many additional vegetables in it) accompanied a delicious small loaf of bread and excellent old-fashioneds and manhattans. Our table of four ordered 2 appetizers to share: the steak tartare and warm goat cheese with tomato sauce. We were glad we ordered them to share! Two had the short rib, and two had the Steak Diane, with a lovely bottle of red wine. It was all perfectly prepared, and perfectly delicious. We are already looking forward to returning, in order to try more of what is on the menu. Many appetizers, salads and main courses are enticing. I am happy that the whitefish is still on the menu, because it is a favorite of mine, and we are looking forward to trying the Hungarian goulash. There are specials each night, in addition to what is on the menu. All reasonably priced, we think. It was quiet, but it was not a busy night. When full, the acoustics will make it louder.
Great food and service! We were lucky to have manager Matt serve us, his suggestions were spot on, he obviously knew the intricacies of the menu.
Great experience! Perfect Serbian food! Good music!
Like the modern clean new look. We ate at the bar - Matt (the manager - who also happens to be the bartender) is awesome.....
We tried the Russian salad (with Pita) - very tasty as a starter. Also the sausages were very tasty (also with Pita) - the harissa on the sausage is great if you like spicy. The beet salad is very tasty and the goulash was excellent.
The Manhattan was very good, as was the Cosmo! The apple crostata for dessert was very good as well....
We will definitely be back....Topaz (the sister restaurant in Burr Ridge) is also excellent!
Great place—delicious food! Service was wonderful as well!
Had a very nice evening at Amber. The food and service were excellent. Great place to celebrate a birthday with friends. They even treated us to port. Loved the pita and relish, hanger steak , short ribs and white fish were favorites.
Ambience, environment, and restaurant design will not welcome you like the name of the restaurant does but the food is solid, nice variety while bringing some ethnic flavor and options to the menu. Stuffed peppers, good calamari for apps, okay beet salad and great fish and strip steak with frites. I took advantage of the nice $25 corking fee and brought a couple bottles of wine and enjoyed a non-traditional white at the restaurant. Apple dessert was great and believe others enjoyed their dessert options as well.
Do not like the decor. No table cloths, very stark looking. Lightning too bright. They no longer use the traditional martini glass, just a way of giving a smaller pour. They have lost their intimacy since the remodeling.
Our dinner was delicious. The Hungarian Goulash is the definition of comfort food. As good as your mom's if only you had a mom that still cooked:)
Food and service was amazing!
Amber Cafe is one of my favorties and never disappoints. I had the salmon and my guest had the lamb shank. We both raved about the dishes and the service was top notch.
Anniversary dinner food and service was great
I am Croation/American so I really enjoyed the food, their homemade sausage was perfection! Great appetizer choices and great menu and wines overall. The service was also very good!!! We will definitely be back.
Excellent service as always. The new menu was delicious, especially the goulash!
Excellent, attentive service. Expertly prepared food. A little pricey.
After closing for a few months for renovation, the restaurant is lovely and the revamped menu sensational! Still exceptional ambiance, wine and delicious food. Love the addition of a few traditional Serbian dishes!!!!!
The food was excellent an incredible taste for a very good price. The service was exceptional, very attentive staff. Enjoyed the experience will recommend and return.
Very disappointing. Last year, during restaurant week, I sent all my friends.
Discouraged them this year.
I absolutely love this place. We’ll be back!
Have dined here several times. It's a quiet lovely place to eat and visit. At most recent visit, I found food choices and quality somewhat less thanI have experienced in past
Great little place to enjoy a fun cocktail or interesting glass of wine. Great wait staff, and sit in the back room or lovely patio for conversation friendly. Typical American cuisine but new Serbian dishes with flair create more options. Specials are always tasty.
Great food that was tasty but different - not the same as everyone else in the western suburbs. And a good and interesting wine selection too! Had a wonderful time there.
We will both highly recommend the Amber Cafee
It was an absolute pleasure to dine in a restaurant where you could actually hear your dinner conversation. The atmosphere was romantic. The server was so knowledgeable about every menu item. The wine list was terrific. We ordered the cevap appetizer, which I haven’t seen on a menu in many years. It was delicious. I had melt in your mouth salmon, which I would order again. The whole experience was very worth the check.
Great wine, great food, quiet cozy space.
Service and atmosphere were superb. Food was presented very elegantly but the taste was lacking.
This had been one of our favorite restaurants for a special occasion. Unfortunately we have crossed Aember(notice the spelling change) off our list. I know they were closed for awhile for remodeling but not much is the same. We had a 6 pm reservation on Valentine’s Day and the hostess seated us within a foot of another couple when there were lots of tables empty. We were not served bread with our salad so when we asked the waitress brought burnt pita bread. Things went down from there, very disappointed.
Staff was friendly and made wonderful recommendations. Lobster bisque soup was awesome and beef tenderloin goulash was out of this world. Would absolutely go again!
This was the first time I had been to Amber since its renovation, and was disappointed to see that instead of the elegant cafe feeling there were hard surfaces, and a more modern feeling. With only two other young men guests in the opposite corner of the room, we sometimes had a hard time hearing each other. On the other hand, the food was delicious and beautifully presented, the waiter could not have been nicer or more well-trained, and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. It was a cold, windy, icy and snowy night, and when our waiter realized that I was using a walker, he went all the way to our car with me, helped me over the snowbank and didn't leave me until I was safely in the car. Now that is SERVICE, and I am eternally grateful to him.
