Dined here for breakfast twice during a recent three-night stay at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar. Excellent blend of great service (genuine, friendly, and professional), delicious breakfast, and beautiful setting. Really enjoyed some of the Mexican-influences in the menu on some of the dishes and are looking forward to our next visit!
Very good friends of ours gave us a Christmas gift certificate and, after looking at the menu, decided the best value was to go for brunch. My husband had the porchetta sandwich and I had the Cobb salad with chicken. Both of our dishes tasted very good. The pretzel rolls they brought out before the meal were tasty but still cold in the center and after seating us, we never saw our waitress nor did anyone come and check on us or ask if we needed anything until we were finished our meal. The restaurant is very beautiful inside and has a lovely patio for outside dining. This is a restaurant that should be experienced once but I feel there are other restaurants where a really good meal can be had at a better price.
We came 12/28 for a Birthday Party... it's expensive but my friends wanted to see the Holiday Decorations that's why we selected this expensive place. To our surprise they took down all the Holiday decor the day after Christmas but did not tell anyone! Disappointing.... we came early to take time to tour the facilities... but instead went to lunch but since it did not start till 11:30 we had to wait..... then we got burnt prezel bread which we sent back when we could find our waiter...tiny little butter, so we had to wait to find our waiter to get more, then got salads with dressing on the side, but 2 of the 4 had it poured on, one missing dressing and it was not on the side so she again had to wait to find the waiter..he had to run somewhere and showed up when the rest of us were 1/2 done! Disappointing all around... won't be back... Just 4 salads for $$$, it was sub par service because they did not have enough staff!
I had $350 in gift certificates and we planned a nice Holiday dinner for our family. Everything was overpriced, the service was extremely slow, we waited over an hour for our entrees to arrive. And the bill for 6 drinks, 4 entrees and 2 appetizers was $80 over the $350. We arrived at
5pm and we left at 8:30pm. Our waitress Stella and the bus servicers were excellent. The kitchen needs a 5 star chef and a full staff so the hour long wait is corrected.
It was the holidays. A greeting would be nice. The staff was efficient but cold. We were directed to the stairs to Amaya and not informed that there was elevator access. The valet had apparently just finished a cigarette when he got

The hotel is beautiful, and the Amaya restaurant has very attentive staff and management; after a visit at Amaya in December 2017 when things weren’t as “Fairmont perfect” as expected, today we tried Amaya again, for my mom’s birthday, and we had a wonderful time.
Everything was perfect, down to the smallest detail, and so representative of Fairmont’s culture of excellence in customer service.
Our server Adan was very professional, helpful, and attentive, he made excellent coffee, took the order impeccably well, and made sure our entire experience was wonderful to the last detail.
The hotel was as beautiful as ever, with tasteful decor and amazing flower arrangements. It makes your heart happy to be in such lovely surroundings.
We are thrilled to see that Fairmont Grand Del Mar and Amaya’s management pay attention to, and care enough about, customers’ comments, to make things right for their customers. It truly shows that the Fairmont culture of excellence and high quality customer care are more alive than ever!!
Dined for Thanksgiving and it was very disappointing. Have dined here before with no issues. After over an hour of waiting for first course the starter salad came out as a large Lobster cobb entree size salad and was not as listed on the menu. (?) It was a set menu so why so many delays--so bazaar? Had to ask for water to be refilled, spoon for soup, bread was stale, as others have mentioned service was really bad and restaurant was not prepared for Thanksgiving. They just kept blaming it on the kitchen/ chef. By the time we ate there were very few tables left so not sure why service was so bad or why they were backed up. We did however enjoy being outside by the fire.
This was Thanksgiving dinner - 4:00 PM res and not crowded at arrival. Place is sumptuous and the price was high. Oddly the first courses and the deserts were wonderful. There were three of us and we tried them all. Uniformly great.
But the turkey entree was very poorly prepared. A couple of odd chunks of not very warm turkey, with skimpy, watery gravy. A few coolish Brussels sprouts and a scoop of plain mashed potatoes. Had to ask (when the waiter finally made it around) for more gravy which took awhile and then we got a small boat, half full and lukewarm. You would think the restaurant (especially such a highly rated place) would try to do something nice for the holiday. At $100 a person, this was a disappointment.
Indifferent service - not terrible but not great.
The food was outstanding; the wait staff was very friendly and attentive. However, our food took an hour to arrive. We were told that this was because of a big group from the Breeder’s Cup. The slow service turned what could have been a perfect evening into merely good one.
Very frustrating experience. We were staying on property and gave Amaya another try.....same nonsense. Poorly trained staff, horrible interior table layout and zero attention to detail. We won't be back until management makes some serious changes. Hard to understand how the venue that houses Addison's (Great every time) can allow Amaya to exist in its current state.
