Wonderful food, wonderful service. The French toast was amazing! The hotel and restaurant looked magical for the holidays.

Thanksgiving was a disaster. It took an HOUR AND A HALF to receive the first course. The service was abysmal. Wait staff seemed flustered. No one stopped by to explain what was happening.
It was $85/person, and we've had better service at Dennys.

Dined for Thanksgiving and it was very disappointing. Have dined here before with no issues. After over an hour of waiting for first course the starter salad came out as a large Lobster cobb entree size salad and was not as listed on the menu. (?) It was a set menu so why so many delays--so bazaar? Had to ask for water to be refilled, spoon for soup, bread was stale, as others have mentioned service was really bad and restaurant was not prepared for Thanksgiving. They just kept blaming it on the kitchen/ chef. By the time we ate there were very few tables left so not sure why service was so bad or why they were backed up. We did however enjoy being outside by the fire.

We came for thanksgiving. Terrific venue. Meal was very good, but not amazing. White turkey was a tad dry, but soup / salad was very good, desserts were solid.

This was Thanksgiving dinner - 4:00 PM res and not crowded at arrival. Place is sumptuous and the price was high. Oddly the first courses and the deserts were wonderful. There were three of us and we tried them all. Uniformly great.

But the turkey entree was very poorly prepared. A couple of odd chunks of not very warm turkey, with skimpy, watery gravy. A few coolish Brussels sprouts and a scoop of plain mashed potatoes. Had to ask (when the waiter finally made it around) for more gravy which took awhile and then we got a small boat, half full and lukewarm. You would think the restaurant (especially such a highly rated place) would try to do something nice for the holiday. At $100 a person, this was a disappointment.

Indifferent service - not terrible but not great.

Setting is impeccable; food was boring, teaseless and not fresh, way below the expected standard of an upscale restaurant at such a luxury hotel. Disappointed.

The food was outstanding; the wait staff was very friendly and attentive. However, our food took an hour to arrive. We were told that this was because of a big group from the Breeder’s Cup. The slow service turned what could have been a perfect evening into merely good one.

Very frustrating experience. We were staying on property and gave Amaya another try.....same nonsense. Poorly trained staff, horrible interior table layout and zero attention to detail. We won't be back until management makes some serious changes. Hard to understand how the venue that houses Addison's (Great every time) can allow Amaya to exist in its current state.

We went there on September 24th for Restaurant Week to sample new creations of chef Bryn McArthur. Just a little earlier we were very impressed with his cuisine at the Glenmorangie tastings. We tried the Pan Seared Scallops, Prawn Carbonara, Roasted Sweet Potato Tart and the Chocolate Brownie Torta. The taste was slightly above average and the portions were really small. The was just one scallop and two prawns in the entire respective dishes. The desserts were the best of the lot but the outstanding scotch based cocktail topped the charts.

The ambiance especially on the outside terrace is beautiful and the service was very good. However one of the main reasons we dine out is to enjoy the cuisine and I ordered the pasta carbonara dish and it was bad. It was under seasoned and the sauce tasted like it was out of a can. We were with our children and I would have sent the dish back and ordered something else but there was not enough time. Very disappointing experience especially for the price.

They have good wine selection, however they did not have enough the one I liked. How could it be??? Loved the table wares and very nice dining patio atmosphere. My waiter tried to accommodate my needs. The foods were okay and semi-slow serving but overall it was very nice as long as my mother loved it.

Having dined in the Amaya, I knew it was a perfect restaurant in a beautiful setting for a birthday luncheon surprise for my friend Jane who had never been to the Grand Del Mar. Of the 7 of us, 3 other friends had never been there. The Old World flavor of the buildings and grounds was a special treat for all of us. It was an eye-opener for first time guests - they did not know there was such an elegant resort in the San Diego area. The service was exceptional - the food excellent and reasonable priced. I know that my friends will return.

From the complimentary valet service on, the Amaya was a fantastic spot to celebrate a birthday dinner. We brought our 2 week old newborn with us and still had a great time. Went with the surf and turf, excellent choice, cocktails and wine were perfectly recommended and paired by our waiter. The ambiance was quiet yet loud enough you didn't feel like you had to whisper and spaced out enough you didn't feel crowded.

Highly recommend for special occasions or if you're staying at the Grand.

Food quality and service has fallen far since we started visiting in 2010. Our seafood platter was prepped too far in advance. The shellfish was dry, the crudo was warm, only the shrimp were ok. We ordered the surf and turf special and oddly the scallop was only seared on one side. We ran out of water halfway through the meal and never received an offer to refill. Dessert took nearly 30 minutes and service was hard to find. Our server was kind enough. He made sure I had a glass of wine I was happy with. Perhaps he just had too many tables.

This restaurant was always our "go to" place for special occasions. On this visit we were greeted appropriately and sat at a nice table. Our waiter was nice and we ordered a $100 bottle of wine,my wife ordered risotto and I ordered chicken. No bread was offered and it took a while for water to come. When the wine came, the waiter forgot his opener and we had to wait while he looked around for one. Then when he was serving the wine, he spilled it and kept spilling it all over the table while he was pouring. My wife asked for some parmesan cheese as there was none on the risotto. About 20 minutes later, one of the assistants just dropped off a bowl of parmesan and said "here you go". My chicken was so tough that I could barely eat it and it had no seasoning at all. I've had better chicken at KFC. We did get a free dessert as it was our 39th anniversary, which was good, but not great. I would say that I will never come back to this restaurant. The service was mediocre at best, the food was not very good and the ambiance was not so great either as there were screaming kids all around us (certainly not the restaurant's fault, but still not an upscale dining experience) Very disappointing as we've come here for years. See my review of same restaurant from 2013.
