This is the perfect place for a quiet conversation. Great place for first dates or anniversaries. The service is superb. Thoughtful and attentive. The staff does not rush you out of the restaurant once you have finished your meal. The atmosphere is for adults but the staff does its best to make the dining experience lively for kids if you happen to be dining with kids. I would definitely refer this restaurantt to others.
Not up to their usual standards
Hope they are not going downhill
All was fine
The ambiance is nice, food is good and service was very good. Ate at the bar since I was solo, but the dinning room looks appealing
Arrived on time and promptly seated. Water and bread arrived quickly. Ordered some drinks and two appetizers. Very good, especially the fried zucchini with marinara. Ordered main dishes...veal, lasagna, ravioli, and seafood. All were very good and service during the meal was really great---attentive, but not bothersome. My granddaughter was with us...age nine and all that that implies...and she was welcomed. Not an issue at all, but she has dined out quite a bit in nice restaurants so she pretty much knows how to behave. The tab for five was about $300---not cheap, but the food quality, the service, and the overall experience were very good. And, of course, it was NYC. I recommend this restaurant highly. It was a very positive experience. Thanks to all at Amata for a nice meal and great experience.
Chris, the Manager was very accommodating and made us feel like it was a special night, and the service was attentive and helpful.
My client and I had lunch at Amata. We had some work to take care of before ordering. The waiter was patient with us taking time to order. The food was awesome.
Typical neighborhood Italian restaurant. Food was traditional, wasn't trying hard to be something creative, and executed very well - which is just fine by me. My wife and I (mid/late 40s) were on average 20-30 years younger than all the other patrons. Not exactly a hot spot - which is also just fine by me, as the place was quiet and we had a delicious, relaxed meal being able to have a conversation without yelling across the table. The service was attentive . Great place to go for a relaxed neighborhood dinner.
Wonderful! We wanted something non-touristy and Amata delivered. We weren’t rushed, the Caesar salad was one of the best we ever had, and the meatball appetizer... whoa! We will be surely return!
We arrived very early during we were only diners. Hard to tell noise level. Service was very good. Owner stopped at table which was very nice. Prices for drinks high but it is Manhattan.
The staff was friendly and attentive. Food was tasty and plenty of options. It was my niece's birthday, and they surprised her with fun dessert complete with firecracker candle and some singing. Would definitely go back...for both the food and the ambiance!
New year’s eve
Delicious food, personable service, nice ambiance and wonderful find!
Had a party of six and was expecting a great dinner.
We waited 15 minutes for a server. Really most of the night never had a real server at our table.
Only after we hunted a server. We were told our server was very busy with a large party.
Some of the food was ice cold like it never made the stove.
The crab had a bad fishy taste like it was over the date or been in water.
After sending the crab back they still put it on the check.
All the food was just average or below or just not worth going back to this restaurant.
I can only say a 5 out of 10 for Amata.
Absolutely fantastic. Six of us had dinner and everyone’s food was fantastic. The service was great. We had a wonderful evening with great food, great wine and terrific host. Italian menu has all the favorites plus innovation and every appetizer, main course and dessert we ordered was exquisite . Our new favorite.
Our second Christmas Eve in a row for special family dinner. We enjoy the cozy dining room and friendly service. The special menu is extensive, and their regular menu has some favorites. We especially enjoyed the zucchini flowers appetizer and the branzino. We assured Chris we'll be back before next year!
We had a most enjoyable meal. Food was hot and very delicious. Service was excellent. Would love to go there again.
Amata is a local favorite that I love to introduce my friends to because the food is delicious and the staff exceptional. Highly recommended!
Great neighborhood Italian place. Cozy and you forget you're in NYC for a little while. Fresh homemade pasta!
This is the first time we were there. The food was excellent. We will definitely go bsck😊
An evening dining treat. Amata is first-class and ever disappoints!!
Everything we ordered for lunch was very good. I recommend putting a bit more chicken melenese in the sandwich and a bit less of the extremely fresh delicious mozzarella. Also appetizer of cold cuts was very small. We should have order 2 or 3 for five people. We said make an appetizer “for the table” meaning enough for 5 people. We got enough for one person. A misunderstanding I’m sure.
Excellent homemade pasta. Great service and they dont rush you out of restaurant
One of those restaurants where you feel like you are a regular. Hands on management and excellent waiters. Food is consistent and good. Daily specials are usually interesting. Warm and inviting interior makes for a very comfortable and enjoyable experience
We had a great table. Everyone enjoyed their dinners and felt very welcome.
One of my favorite restaurants in the city - whether dining alone or with a group. Simply fabulous!
Service exceptional, personalized, consistent from arrival at bar to dinner.
We were here on a Sunday evening, visiting New York over the weekend. There were hardly any workers in the restaurant, so service was very, very slow. May be this was an off night for them. I thought my meal (which was shrimp scampi) was way overpriced for the very small portion I received, in a neighborhood restaurant but it did have a good taste.
Love this place! I live in the building.
Lovely place. We enjoyed the great food & service.
We had a wonderful experience at Amata! We were suppose to be celebrating my mom's 80th birthday - unfortunately, she was not feeling well and could not come. She told us to go and enjoy dinner and a drink for her! So we kept the reservation and what a wonderful place. The food was delicious and as soon as the owner found out my mom couldn't make it, he gave us a cake and a special candle to take home and celebrate with her there! Everyone was very attentive and we look forward to coming back again for another celebration!!
Everyone was extremely nice and friendly. The food was delicious and came out very quickly.
Fantastic food and excellent service. Amazing veal dishes. I will be back!
Someone recommended this neighborhood italian and boy are we glad he did. The food is DELICIOUS!!!!
The website says Amata means beloved, and I understand why this is a great name for this restaurant. My friend and I came here early on a Saturday evening before a show at Carnegie Hall. We were greeted warmly and seated right away. The food was delicious! I had chicken sorrentino and my friend had chicken martini. Both were ample portions- tender and flavorful. We were treated to cordials and biscotti with our coffee, which was a lovely way to end a delicious dinner. Looking forward to our next visit here!
Excellent, as usual. Very good food at reasonable prices and great drinks!
Virtually empty for lunch. Not a good sign. I had the Caprese sandwich which was bland as hell and the bread was not great either. Unimpressed with the menu and atmosphere. $68.00 for 2 Caprese sandwiches, 1 salad with grilled chicken and on bottle of sparkling water. Overpriced for the quality and overall experience. Would not return or recommend.
Amata has a lovely ambiance, excellent service and good food.
This has become our favorite Italian restaurant in midtown. The staff are wonderful, very helpful and courteous and the food is excellent. We recommend: the Bronzino, the salmon and the beef carpaccio. The pastas also look delicious. It is also a really nice place to take out of town guests.
