The website says Amata means beloved, and I understand why this is a great name for this restaurant. My friend and I came here early on a Saturday evening before a show at Carnegie Hall. We were greeted warmly and seated right away. The food was delicious! I had chicken sorrentino and my friend had chicken martini. Both were ample portions- tender and flavorful. We were treated to cordials and biscotti with our coffee, which was a lovely way to end a delicious dinner. Looking forward to our next visit here!

Virtually empty for lunch. Not a good sign. I had the Caprese sandwich which was bland as hell and the bread was not great either. Unimpressed with the menu and atmosphere. $68.00 for 2 Caprese sandwiches, 1 salad with grilled chicken and on bottle of sparkling water. Overpriced for the quality and overall experience. Would not return or recommend.

This has become our favorite Italian restaurant in midtown. The staff are wonderful, very helpful and courteous and the food is excellent. We recommend: the Bronzino, the salmon and the beef carpaccio. The pastas also look delicious. It is also a really nice place to take out of town guests.

Bring your wallet not your appetite...when an order comes with a side vegetable or potato you don't expect the equivalent of a Costo Sample when your cruising the store.

When asked for additional potatoes we we given another bite sized thing.

When paying $22.00 for a perhaps 6 oz.piece of chicken can they not afford to fill the plate with a reasonable portion of potatoes?

Wonderful food and lovely service. I had a porkchop and beet salad. I loved them both. I would return often if prices were a bit lower...

Very professional and attentive staff that knows when to clear the table & when to give the guests space. The owner Chris and the GM, Jerome greet all the guests personally whether they are locals or new to the restaurant. Everyone is made to feel at home. Every time I’ve eaten here, the food has never failed to impress. Aside from the fact that my chicken parmigiana dish was a little bland this time, everything was excellent and prepared very well.

A casual setting for a formidable chef. Not to be confused as a southern Italian restaurant. It really is continental cuisine at its best.

A lovely evening - great service! My husband had the carpaccio and the short ribs - delicious! Spinach and ricotta ravioli - just as good! We weren't rushed and were able to have a quiet conversation. Will return next time we're in NYC.

I found this to be a very good dining experience. Very good Italian cuisine. I had the Pork chop with cherry peppers and it was amazing. The homemade ricotta cheese cake was outstanding. When I was there a umber of locals were eating at the bar and it looked like a nice scene. I highly recommend.

Very underwhelmed by the food. Cold tomato soup with crab was good. Pasta with white clams and risotto with shrimp and asparagus were both bland and colorless. Too bad, was hoping it was another good neighborhood location. Will give it another try...just in case it was just an off night.

With three brand new restaurants opened within a block, Amata—not that old but definitely established— stands out as the most professionally managed, consistently delicious and warmly welcoming. Request the sometimes off-the-menu salad of jumbo lump crab, petite peas, avocado, grape tomatoes and arugula: it's amazing.

If only they got their act right! A big handsome dining space, good for conversation, lovely. We had a sadly bland octopus salad and enormous mussels fra diavolo to start. Auspicious, followed by lobster ravioli, cavatelli, papardelle, and tiramisu and crime brûlée, all solid if not intense. But the service was so slow, so confused. It wasn't clear WHO our waiter was, one guy took drinks , another appetizer, someone else entree, delivered by staff, and we got the check finally via the maitre'd after several tries with others. Chaos, not impressive or comfortable with guests. Wouldn't take that chance again

Amata offers generous portions of reliably delicious Italian food, warm hospitality and professional service. Both dinner and lunch are happy experiences. "Regulars" are treated like family. Ask for anything -- Amata will oblige if possible. Great for everything from a big family gathering to a business lunch to an intimate dinner date. Recent standouts have been the corn and jumbo lump salad, cavatelli with broccoli rave and sausage, anything parmagian, the sausage pannini for lunch, and all the tartuffo flavors. Counting the days till the soft shell whale crabs return! Ask Chris what's great and he won't steer you wrong.
