Amaranth is located just off Madison Ave on 62nd St , between Fifth Ave and Madison Ave, in the heart of the most famous shopping strip of the Upper East Side of Manhattan and few steps from Central Park.
We credit our success to a very honest approach to Mediterranean cuisine: a fusion of original Italian food and French food, great hospitality and the highest quality of ingredients that we use in our recipes. A large portion of specialty items that we serve are imported from Italy and France.

It was fine except we had to track down our waiter whenever something was needed like four pieces of bread for 5 people.... and a few other annoying things although not big was just annoying.

This is one of the best bistros in Manhattan. The food is simply excellent and the service is superb. It is a restaurant gem hidden in plain sight. My only slight criticism ( and it will not deter my attendance at this fine bistro) is that the decor looks worn and tired. Management needs to refurbish. CGE44

As a longtime resident of Manhattan and dine out frequently, without a doubt Amaranth was the worst experiences in dining. Sitting in an empty restaurant. We sat there for 15 minutes to have a waiter arrive and another 10 minutes to get a cocktail, which the same waiter made. The grilled calamari arrived after 25 minutes with 4 tiny pieces of calamari and some frisee thrown on top. The $42 lobster salad ordered for each of us arrived in another half hour with some tiny pieces of lettuce and a small piece of lobster in the middle. The French fries ordered were thrown on a small plate. Most assuredly we will not ever return. When we saw the seedy feeling of the interior we should have left. Our mistake.

On arrival, not offered any menus. Food menu offered after I asked for it- drinks menu never appeared. This restaurant should be clearly signposted as a “Seafood restaurant” as opposed to a “Mediterranean”, it’s overwhelmingly a seafood menu. Mussels were good, but fries overdone. I chose poached salmon (gd) but the salad was basic- literally chopped cucumber and tomato. We didn’t stay for dessert.

We had an excellent experience at Amaranth last evening...The food and service were excellent ...I especially loved the shrimp curry and rice, as the curry sauce had a little sweet touch to it ...the fresh strawberry margaritas were exceptional and prepared barside to order..We will be enjoying many more meals at Amaranth when we are in the city...

The weather was nice but still 80 degrees and they had the windows open so we were sweating through the meal which is extremely unpleasant and uncomfortable. My angel hair primavera with grilled shrimp was $35 with only 3 shrimp, I find that unreasonable. It tasted great but was a big disappointment for the 3 shrimps. The servers were absurd in their response to the two issues. I won’t be going back there ever again and I will make sure to tell all my friends and clients to avoid it.

This Manhattan French bistro is a favorite of New Yorkers who want great food simply provided at a value. While the decor is very standard the food is not. The French fare with an Italian accent is superb. The staff, beginning with Luka who leads the Amaranth, are totally professional and offer exceptional personal service and attention to diners. Amaranth is a true gem. It may be the best Bistro in Manhattan in terms of the quality of the food versus the price.

The food was serviceable, but not great. Main complaint:inattentive service. No eye contact, repeatedly have to hunt down somebody who can help, no personable service , not a smile. Especially at their location one would expect more of the staff (did not seem understaffed, rather undertrained and seemingly not happy to be there at noon on a Saturday).

Good food, not great, but ambiance sitting outside was really nice. Service really weak as they appear very understaffed. We sat at table forever waiting for first drink order and again waiting to order our meals. At one point I needed to go searching for someone to bring a second glass of wine. If you don’t have enough staff you shouldn’t take reservations for the full outside and inside. Or if it isn’t a staffing issue, then the current team needs to step up the attention and intensity because it’s lacking.

I've been dining here for years--first as a visitor to NYC, now as a resident. It has become our local. The chicken tricolor, crabmeat salad, salmon, fries are reliable favorites. Wine list is good with very nice half bottle options. The team is attentive and friendly.
