   I invited two friends to join me for lunch. Neither had been to Amaranth for years; both were so pleased with food and service and vowed to return. There's a new spark to both food and staff - we felt very welcomed and no attitude because we weren't under 60.

   Amaranth is a favorite neighborhood restaurant. I LOVE their menu and the service. Also: its reasonably priced. However, because so many restaurants have opened around... its a little dead at night. Hope people realize what a gem it is and come back. I would hate to see it go.

   AMARANTH is a cozy, quiet restaurant with excellent food and even better service. It is a NYC restaurant gem. Fairly priced with superb food with a French flair. The only negative is it looks a bit worn. The decor needs a facelift. CGE44

   Delicious food. Piece of fish was tiny… and a little bit over cooked. But great lentil salas. Fresh berries were not so fresh. Bit into one that was moldy.

    Always love Amaranth- the setting, the decor, the lively scene, the handsome and cordial maitre d’….but the food has taken a dive. I had heard that from other friends and hadn’t been in a year or two…but ordering the classic eggplant Napolean, I got slices of bad tomato, a thin piece of eggplant, and an overly salty mozzarella …really poor for $25….I should have said something but didn’t want to make a fuss in front of guests. Hopefully a few others will comment and the quality will come back!

    You know New York City is back when Amaranth is full-up at lunch time with a large number of smart looking ladies carrying petite shopping bags from quality NYC stores. As usual the food was superb and the service friendly and professional. Try the Halibut or the Steak Tarte you won't be sorry.

    A fun lively atmosphere. Very good service. Someone in our party had gluten issues, and the waiter was very helpful in making good suggestions. Would be fun for someone's birthday. The food was good, but felt like it was overpriced for what we had. Example, a small plate of grilled vegetables was $28 as an appetizer. Overall, though, we enjoyed the experience.

    Waiter and chef were very accommodating. Atmosphere and Ambiance was really nice for our anniversary. They special made our dishes since we were vegetarian. Our Food was a little disappointing as it lacked seasoning. But that could be do our special dietary needs. Tomato salad was delicious.

    We consider Amaranth our "local" even though we are not from NYC. Always make a point to enjoy the food and ambiance. Great salads and entres for lunch. Delightful street scene when seated outside.

    Suboptimal food in a cafeteria-like atmosphere. The location is great, but the food and the general experience is not. Gazpacho that was more like engine oil than soup, and a blue cheese dressing on endives that was a pale imitation of something out of a bottle. What a disappointment. We won’t be returning.
