We credit our success to a very honest approach to Mediterranean cuisine: a fusion of original Italian food and French food, great hospitality and the highest quality of ingredients that we use in our recipes. A large portion of specialty items that we serve are imported from Italy and France.
Our famous Focaccia Robiola, our super fresh and tasty Seafood, creative Pasta and perfectly al dente Risotto, have attracted a dedicated fan base of New Yorkers, Europeans and celebrities, who are looking for a home away from home.
Our Mediterranean Bistro has a really charming terrace during the warm season, where you can taste our delicious food or enjoy a cocktail (try our famous Frozen Cosmo!) before dinner.
lemon sorbet with absolut vodka and mint blood orange sorbet with champagne
radicchio, watercress, endive, cremini mushrooms and citrus vinaigrette
Grilled Atlantic Salmon
roasted asparagus and dill creme fraiche
Waiter was not wearing a mask.
Food was mediocre and very expensive. Not good value.
Excellent outside lunch
We've been enjoying Amaranth for a decade or more. It never disappoints! Always great. Lunch or dinner. This time of year, with Covid worries still around, there is nothing more pleasant than sitting outdoors with a glass of wine and a great lunch. Real NYC treat.
Consistent excellent quality throughout the years. Best steak tartar and French fries in NYC by far.
THE FOOD WAS DELICIOUS AS ALWAYS. THE WAIT STAFF ARE ALWAYS HELPFUL AND EXTREMELY FRIENDLY. I ALWAYS ENJOY DINING HERE.
Excelente comida, servicio muy amable
Overall a wonderful experience- in the era of covid -very clean-
Attentive service - varied selection of menu items for all tastes -
Save room for dessert -
The service was very attentive, but the food was just mediocre. Overpriced.
Very slow service
I was looking for a restaurant in the 60's to meet a friend for dinner, and had passed Amaranth many times and finally had an excuse to drop in. The place was bustling as usual even for a 7:00 reservation for three. Like many restaurants in NYC, Amaranth has expanded out into the side street, most likely doubling the number of seats pre-pandemic. We shared a Fritto Mediterraneo, which was excellent. Of the three main-courses; chicken paillard, mussels, and Risotto with vegetables, only the mussels was disappointing. When our wait staff, Mirabella (who was excellent) asked if were enjoying our meals, my husband was honest and fair. It appeared that the mussels had been sitting under a heat lamp too long and the top half of the mussels had dried out; however, the bottom haft and sauce were very good. Also, for a restaurant of this quality they served frozen French fries that you would expect from a diner. Mirabella, to her credit, was honest about the fries, saying their potato delivery came up short and this was all that was available and apologized for the mussels. We didn't ask for any compensation, but she took upon herself to speak to the manager and arranged to have our dessert plus another dessert comped. This is an indication of good management responding to a fair and honest review. Bravo. We will definitely make a return trip.
Very nice lunch and atmosphere!
Great ambience excellent food wonderful people. One of my favorite city places
We will not he returning here. My girlfriend’s chicken was undercooked, which represents a safety hazard. We were rushed the entire evening because evidently the kitchen closes early without prior notice. The chicken Milanese costs $35 but was burnt and was served with only chopped lettuce and tomatoes over it. This is diner quality at borderline fine dining prices.
Not great. Sorry. I don’t know what happens.
Always an excellent dinner
This was a disappointing experience in all regards The only positive thing was the young woman who seated us: polite and accommodating
We ordered Margaritas to start which took some time and they were terrible… a far cry from what it should be, an incompetent bartender !!!!
So was our waiter. He was in a daze, not focused … terrible
Good slow and mediocre
We will never go back again and sorry to have wasted time and money there
Always great food and fun ambience. A perfect place for both casual and special event dining. Highly recommend.
It has been the worst restaurant we have visited in NYC. the food is bad and the dishes are scarce. It took 55 minutes to bring the food and the restaurant was empty. the bill was very expensive of 33 dlls for a salad and the meat and rice was not the best. 4 years ago we were here and it had been spectacular. Now I know why it is no longer among the best places. not recommendable
Lovely ambiance. Friendly. Not as organized as they are capable of.
The food is always superb, the service is extremely friendly, the ambiance is comfortable.
It’s my always reliable place to go to!
A wonderful neighborhood as well as go to restaurant.............
Prices were way too high for what we got, portions weren’t very generous, food was just average, indoors was VERY warm (no air conditioning), 1 ceiling fan wasn’t working and in general the experience doesn’t justify the insanely high prices! We won’t be back very soon!
Wonderful food ,service, ambiance… love it there! Been there everyday!
One of the most over-priced and under-whelming dining experiences I’ve had. Started with the restaurant docking us $25 each for the tiny glass of champagne that greeted us at the table and that we assumed was complimentary (we mentioned in our reservation that we were celebrating a wedding). Octopus carpaccio with tiny slivers of octopus at $45. Watermelon salad with feta at $32. Fries for $12 - that never got to our table and yet appeared on our bill. And service? Non existent. Good luck flagging a waiter. Loud noise from the many Upper East Side (older) patrons. Might have been salvageable if the food was exceptional - but no better than your neighborhood bistro, folks. AVOID!
We love this place for after-theatre. The food is eclectic French/Italian. The service is great. The buzz and the crowd are always fun.
Still preferring to eat outside, when possible. Tables outside were under a canopied area, but due to the recent heavy rain, there was leaking from the tent top onto the table and chairs so we had to switch out location and chairs to be dry. Also, without a platform on the street, the tables were slightly askew and your feet were in a bit of water. Wait staff was accommodating to move us, but the ambiance is definitely not very charming outside, as compared to inside. Food was as expected, good but not brilliant, but solid. Nice evening, all in all.
Generally very good —food was outstanding -ambience a bit dated now! I have.been a customer for 20years
Amaranth is wonderful and always excellent food/service!!
The food was delicious! I would highly recommend the Chilean Sea Bass.
I think Amaranth may have had it’s day. The food was just ok. The service pleasant but often distracted. The atmosphere feels tarnished .
I was so excited to go here after seeing a friend rave about it on Instagram, however, that’s not what we experienced. I thought the overall level of attentive service wasn’t on par with the price point and location. My husband enjoyed his meal, but mine was very disappointing- a salad of two olives, two tiny slivers of orange, one cut-cut-in-half cherry tomato and shaved octopus for $30?! Not worth it at all. Sadly, we won’t be back or recommending this place to others. 😬
Wonderful neighborhood spot! Great seating and ambiance. Love their pasta and lobster dish!
Wonderful food , relaxing atmosphere & friendly service, great for lunch and dinner .
We sat inside and it was extremely hot.
good great excellent
good wine choices by the glass
our meal was really delicous Mussels & Lobster Salad
Entire dinner was great
Had an excellent time at Amaranth last night. The food was delicious, the ambiance very lively. Only thing that might need work on is maybe more staff, but it is understandable given the times we are in post covid. Will definitely be returning.
Very good except for the birthday singing with loud music disrupted the ambiance
A very nice place to have lunch-we both had salads, but they have a large and varied menu.
The restaurant was very quiet at 12:30 ,but an hour later became more crowded and a little noisy.
There are lots of options for outdoor dining, if weather permits..
the service was very fast and attentive ...
Very slow service outside, possibly due to large number of diners.
