About Amalfi Ristorante Italiano
"Italy, it's closer than you think." Founded by Moe Sr. in 1977 Amalfi is a True Family Owned & Operated Restaurant. We are a very hands on family that take pride in doing all the work ourselves and strive to have the very best restaurant in town. Moe Jr. is the head chef, Johnny is the General Manager, Teresa hosts and overlooks the operation. Moe Sr. and Teresa started Amalfi in February 1977 when Moe Jr. was only two years old and Johnny hadn't even been born yet. Now over 40 years later the two sons are in control and have taken Amalfi to the next level. We have now upgraded all of our meats to all natural products from local farms. From free range chicken to milk fed veal, even our sausage is all natural. Almost all of our pasta is handmade on premises and we've gotten rid of practically all dishes made in batches so now our meals are made to order to ensure optimal freshness and quality. Come in and see why they say, "Once you visit Amalfi, you may never leave!"

Amalfi Ristorante Italiano Ratings and Reviews
Amalfi Ristorante Italiano (Amalfi's to us) is one of our favorite go-to places for an excellent Italian meal. The staff is friendly and efficient. The food is consistently delicious and we always feel that we get good value for our money. Caesar salad is one of our favorites and Amalfi does a great job with that, but their other specialty salads are so fresh and tempting that I often skip the Caesar in favor of arugula with pears and almonds or one of their other unique choices. The ambience is homey and it is a great place for a casual meal.
MAJOR PROBLEM WITH ENTRANCE! Steps are uneven and very dangerous. This restaurant has been in same location for 30+ years. Don’t you think they could correct the terrible entrance. They don’t even have a rail or a handle. maybe they slipped under the handicapped laws but you would think they would want to accommodate physically challenged (handicapped) patrons and senior citizen - those over 50!
Unpretentious Southern Italian home-style comfort food in family-owned restaurant. Seafood pasta was a bit expensive but most dishes are appropriately priced. Friendly service and warm surroundings despite location in warehouse light-industrial area. A gem in Rockville.
THE BEST!!! I've been to Italy many times and have dined at many top notch Italian restaurants around the world and Amalfi is the only place in or near Rockville that can be mentioned along with the greats. From the food to the service Amalfi is my all time favorite restaurant. With every smile you can tell how much the family truly cares about it's clientele. With locally farmed ingredients you can really taste the freshness. I've never had a bad meal in the forty years I've been eating here and absolutely love John. He is one of the kindest and most genuinely friendly person I've ever met in my life. If anything isn't to your satisfaction then just ask to speak to him and he'll make sure you leave happy. If only every place could be like Amalfi, the world would just be a happier place. Happy New Year Amalfi Family, thank you for the decades of excellence.
One of my favorite Italian dishes is Chicken Alfredo. I've tried it at so many different Italian restaurants and Amalfi does it better than anyone. And when I say better I mean it's in a league of it's own. The chicken isn't just a bunch of random pieces. It's a whole skin-on Chicken breast that is always so tender and juicy. The fettuccine is homemade and the Alfredo sauce is cooked to order. One bite and you'll agree that there is no matching the quality, quantity and flavor of Amalfi's Chicken Alfredo. No, seriously I can't express enough how consistently awesome this dish is at Amalfi. 5 stars, more like 500 stars!!! :)
Spent Christmas Eve here for a fantastic dinner and desserts. I love the family atmosphere and they had Santa Claus passing out cookies and talking to all the kids.
It doesn't get any better than this place for delicious food, attentive service, and homey atmosphere!!
A long time favorite. Easy parking, Rockville location, owned/operated by the same warm, wonderful family for all of these years! Delicious home style Italian where they cater to your every need. As a Celiac sufferer they have dedicated fryers and work space. Being Gluten free for so long, I was able to splurge on specialties like fried calamari and eggplant parmigian. Thank You!!!
We’ve had some good meals at Amalfi in the past, so I was disappointed by the bad experience we had at our most recent dinner there. My husband and I both ordered salad starters, and a pasta entrée. We also ordered gluten-free pasta for our son who has celiac disease. He had eaten there in the past without problem. The server promptly brought out my husband’s salad and my son’s pasta, but did not bring out my salad or glass of wine I ordered. She also did not come back to our table to check if we needed anything. After 15 minutes, when I still did not get my salad or a glass of wine despite my husband and son having been served, my husband flagged down a staff member who got our waitress. When I asked about my salad, the waitress insisted I had not ordered a salad and showed me her notepad to indicate there was no salad written down there. I advised her I had ordered a salad and she said she had not heard me order a salad. She brought out the salad and entrée together with my husband’s entrée. In my opinion, she should’ve offered my salad at a discount or even for free since she forgot about it instead of telling me I was wrong in stating I had indeed ordered one. We were also disappointed that no one came to check on us throughout the meal to see how our food was, or to ask if my husband wanted another soda or if I wanted another glass of wine. Nor were our water glasses refilled during the meal. To cap things off, my son wound up getting sick after the meal, indicating his food had not been gluten-free. We were very disappointed and won’t be going back.
John is outstanding with a flair for describing every dish, wine or whatever your desire explicitly. The welcoming atmosphere feeling of being in Nonna's house is enjoyable. Food is created the way you wish to have it, making adjustments based on dietary needs or personal preferences.
Definitely an out of the way place that is worth the drive. No frills, but great food and friendly staff. If you are looking for comfort Italian dishes, this is the place to go. To call this a neighborhood gem is an understatement, but you better have reservations if you want a table. We were there early, but by 7:30PM the place was packed. I will be going back.
Our visit this time was as a contratulatory celebration for a friend who was retiring. Service was great as always and the food was perfect as expected. Our friend had the lasagna...I may have to try that sometime. I had the mushroom and bacon carbonara...was very good. Thanks again to the team at Amalfi for a pleasant Saturday evening meal!
A quality eating experience in just about every way! The Open Table reservation process was easy, also coming with an e-mail reminder notice when the event (our anniversary) was close by. The table quickly was serviced with a basket of very tasty onion squares and french bread (so good they were hard to put down and I was close to requesting more of the onion squares). The menu had a good many tantalizing choices, and the beef bolognese I ordered was almost as superlative as the lamb bolognese I had ordered the last time we enjoyed Amalfi's. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her eggplant parmesan, one of her favorites. Then after we informed the waitress of our eating there to celebrate an anniversary, we had the choice of a half price yet usually available top notch dessert (the chocolate covered gelato, what a winner)! We also were adjacent to three other tables celebrating birthdays, so the ambience was a very happy one. The service was slightly slower than it might have been, but all things considered (including it was a Sunday evening during dinner hour and other tables needed attention)--- Amalfi's is a winner!
I’ve been a few times for special occasions. While the menu is expensive, the food is delicious. I got beef Bolognese- my favorite. I’ve also had the shrimp Alfredo which is delicious. The fried calamari was soooo good. Make a reservation on Friday/ Saturday nights to avoid a long wait time. Overall delicious and service was great.
Went for dinner with friends. Had not been to this restaurant in years. Although the pasta dishes eaten by my dinner companions was very good and generous, my branzino fish portion was ridiculously small. For $25 you get one very small piece of filet and only one side of the filet - not both sides. Four bites and the fish was done. The side vegetable of broccoli and mushroom was generous and the additional order of a salad was fresh and generous -- but that did not make up for the small portion of fish. Fortunately I had ordered a salad otherwise I would have gone home more hungry than I was upon leaving the restaurant. I did not complain at the time as we were with friends but I did call the restaurant to let them know my disappointment. The owner said the portion is always 7-9 ounces. I purchase fish all the time and there is no way the fish portion was 7-9 ounces. It was more like 3-4 ounces. The owner did offer restitution if we come back some other night for dinner. We will not be back. The food was just that not special and as someone who avoids pasta I would not risk eating fish there again.
