About Amalfi Ristorante Italiano
"Italy, it's closer than you think." Founded by Moe Sr. in 1977 Amalfi is a True Family Owned & Operated Restaurant. We are a very hands on family that take pride in doing all the work ourselves and strive to have the very best restaurant in town. Moe Jr. is the head chef, Johnny is the General Manager, Teresa hosts and overlooks the operation. Moe Sr. and Teresa started Amalfi in February 1977 when Moe Jr. was only two years old and Johnny hadn't even been born yet. Now over 40 years later the two sons are in control and have taken Amalfi to the next level. We have now upgraded all of our meats to all natural products from local farms. From free range chicken to milk fed veal, even our sausage is all natural. Almost all of our pasta is handmade on premises and we've gotten rid of practically all dishes made in batches so now our meals are made to order to ensure optimal freshness and quality. Come in and see why they say, "Once you visit Amalfi, you may never leave!"

Amalfi Ristorante Italiano Ratings and Reviews
John is outstanding with a flair for describing every dish, wine or whatever your desire explicitly. The welcoming atmosphere feeling of being in Nonna's house is enjoyable. Food is created the way you wish to have it, making adjustments based on dietary needs or personal preferences.
Definitely an out of the way place that is worth the drive. No frills, but great food and friendly staff. If you are looking for comfort Italian dishes, this is the place to go. To call this a neighborhood gem is an understatement, but you better have reservations if you want a table. We were there early, but by 7:30PM the place was packed. I will be going back.
Our visit this time was as a contratulatory celebration for a friend who was retiring. Service was great as always and the food was perfect as expected. Our friend had the lasagna...I may have to try that sometime. I had the mushroom and bacon carbonara...was very good. Thanks again to the team at Amalfi for a pleasant Saturday evening meal!
A quality eating experience in just about every way! The Open Table reservation process was easy, also coming with an e-mail reminder notice when the event (our anniversary) was close by. The table quickly was serviced with a basket of very tasty onion squares and french bread (so good they were hard to put down and I was close to requesting more of the onion squares). The menu had a good many tantalizing choices, and the beef bolognese I ordered was almost as superlative as the lamb bolognese I had ordered the last time we enjoyed Amalfi's. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her eggplant parmesan, one of her favorites. Then after we informed the waitress of our eating there to celebrate an anniversary, we had the choice of a half price yet usually available top notch dessert (the chocolate covered gelato, what a winner)! We also were adjacent to three other tables celebrating birthdays, so the ambience was a very happy one. The service was slightly slower than it might have been, but all things considered (including it was a Sunday evening during dinner hour and other tables needed attention)--- Amalfi's is a winner!
I’ve been a few times for special occasions. While the menu is expensive, the food is delicious. I got beef Bolognese- my favorite. I’ve also had the shrimp Alfredo which is delicious. The fried calamari was soooo good. Make a reservation on Friday/ Saturday nights to avoid a long wait time. Overall delicious and service was great.
Went for dinner with friends. Had not been to this restaurant in years. Although the pasta dishes eaten by my dinner companions was very good and generous, my branzino fish portion was ridiculously small. For $25 you get one very small piece of filet and only one side of the filet - not both sides. Four bites and the fish was done. The side vegetable of broccoli and mushroom was generous and the additional order of a salad was fresh and generous -- but that did not make up for the small portion of fish. Fortunately I had ordered a salad otherwise I would have gone home more hungry than I was upon leaving the restaurant. I did not complain at the time as we were with friends but I did call the restaurant to let them know my disappointment. The owner said the portion is always 7-9 ounces. I purchase fish all the time and there is no way the fish portion was 7-9 ounces. It was more like 3-4 ounces. The owner did offer restitution if we come back some other night for dinner. We will not be back. The food was just that not special and as someone who avoids pasta I would not risk eating fish there again.
Another fantastic Meal!
Went to Amalfi on a very busy Friday night and was seated quickly because I made reservations ahead of time and as always, had a fabulous dinner. Everything I have ever ordered and eaten at this great restaurant has been fantastic and the staff are second to none. I had Jeremy and he was so attentive and very friendly. If you have not been to amalfi you are missing so much.
It's a fantastic family owned restaurant for delicious classic Italian food. Great place for family night or date night. The service is lovely and the owners and staff couldn't be nicer. The price point is excellent for the quality of food. This is all about support of local longstanding small business !
A neighborhood hidden gem with outstanding staff and service, always willing to go the extra mile to accommodate any need. I enjoy the variety of creative specials with something to please everyone. If you are fortunate to be there when John the General Manager is there, you get not only dinner but a show. He is gregarious and personable with his detailed description of how each special is prepared, how it tastes and makes your mouth water for one of each. The hand crafted cocktails are delicious, they even make Arnold Palmer's from scratch. Salads are exquisite and hard to choose which one each time I go. I always take half my dinner home so I can enjoy dessert. All of which are delicious that choosing one is always a challenge.
We went with another couple for diner. It has been several years since we last had diner here. The white pizza with cheese is an excellent appetizer. The wine list is reasonably priced. I had the chicken Marsella which was very good. The sauce was very tasty annd the chicken was moist and well seasoned. We also had the eggplant which was very good. The other 2 orders were for the calamari pasta. The homemade pasta and sauce was good. Unfortunately the calamari was overlooked and rubbery.
I would recommend this restaurant but not the calamari
The waitress needs to have more training! This was the 2nd time we had her...obviously struggled handling a big party. Zero on attentiveness!!! Checked on us once after we got our food. Didn't even bother checking if anybody needs a drink refill. Such a disappointment having to experience this kind of service from a lovely place we enjoy going to.
Amalfi's has excellent Italian cuisine, as well as fish and other dishes. They are flexible and will adapt the menu to you. The service is excellent and everyone is extremely friendly. We have come to this restaurant often with many groups of friends. All seem to enjoy this dining experience at Amalfi's!
Amalfi always meets expectations and exceeds. This visit we decided to go traditional and have the Burata for appetizer (very creamy mozzarella!) and traditional clams linguini and spaghetti (actually homemade chitarra) and meatballs. The garlic and butter sauce was perfect on the clams and they were prepared to be tender and not chewy. The two large meatballs were good and the chitarra was al dente. The homemade gelatto was deicious...especially the chocolate. Some seasonal peach would have been great.
Chef Moe never ceases to amaze us with his creative and scrumptious creations utilizing both seafood and pasta with delicious sauces and blending of flavors. John is the epitome of a happy, enthusiastic host who goes out of his way to explain every dish if you have any questions. Always willing to check about special requests and altering of dishes served for the individual palate whenever possible. The freshest of local ingredients is used and one can tell great pride is taken to create the dishes. For photos check out their Facebook page for the delicacies being served weekly. Highly recommend crab when they have it, whether it is soft shell, crab cakes or crab with pasta. Handcrafted cocktails are superb and dessert is always a treat worth saving room for even if you take part of your dinner home.
Still the best restaurant in DC area.
I have not been to Amalfi's in awhile and went the other night for my birthday dinner and it was exceptional as always. The food was so delicious and even their bread is the best I have had anywhere. Jeremy, my waiter, was so attentive and helpful. I highly recommend this wonderful place.
