Well worth the splurge! Truly a dining experience with fantastic and friendly service. Loved every bite!
Excellent food, superb wine pairing, rivals if not better than 3 Star Michelin restaurants in other cities
A birthday celebration and an outstanding meal in all respects.
Simply amazing. 3.5 hours from start to finish. Was actually too full to finish everything. The portions are tiny, but there are many of them.
The service was impeccable. You are tended to non-stop. Very friendly staff, from the hostess, to the waiters, the person refilling our water, the sommelier, and the chefs themselves.
The value for the tasting menu is great. No problems there at all. I only docked a point because the drinks are very overpriced, in my opinion. For instance, a straight Grey Goose should not cost $12. You didn't manipulate the drink, but charge twice as much as a bar, which already marks up the cost from retail. The rest of the alcohol menu is similarly overpriced. The wine we had was delicious. Great recommendation by the sommelier. But it retails for $26 and Altura charges $95.
The restaurant itself is very clean and nice. Just feels a little dated. For such a high-end restaurant I'd like the interior to be more inspired, but I realize I'm nitpicking.
Treat yourself and visit Altura soon.
The service was amazing and the food was incredible!
My wife and I have eaten at fine restaurants around the world, and this was the best!
courses are amazing . Just a little bit crowd!
Fascinating ingredients match. Super nice chef and waiter! One of the greatest experience in Seattle!
We went to Altura to celebrate my husband's birthday. I believe that they treat everyone special at this restaurant, as demonstrated by the ambiance and entire staffs efforts to make the meal feel elevated in every moment, however, they certainly went out of their way to make us feel special in celebrating.
Come Hungry (maybe skip lunch)! You get very little say as to what you are served, but every bite is superb. They do take into account allergies as long as they have notice and are very conscious to respect them. The tasting menu experience is a long 10-15 courses that took us 3 hours to enjoy, decadent and delicious as you go on a gourmet adventure led by Chef Lockwood. My husband chose the modern alcohol pairing and was enthralled by every detailed story, insight to flavors and it's pair to the next course in each delicious glass enhancing every imaginative bite.
The thoughtful sweets box gifted to us to take home is a lovely way to get to savor later and recollect the entire deeply pleasurable experience again.
Our only minor complaint as to the ambiance, is not the restaurant's fault however still makes a person feel deeply uneasy as it went on and on for most of our meal. Unfortunately we were seated next to a couple that was coughing and sneezing the entire 3 hour meal (and weren't great at covering their mouths and noses). Hopefully it was just allergies but it felt invasive and unsafe not knowing if we were being exposed to illness over a long period of time, barely 2 feet away.
My partner and I were impressed with the food and the experience.
This was my second time at Altura and it was a wonderful experience again. We sat at the counter and was able to watch the staff prepare all the courses while we enjoyed the dishes. The menu was seasonal with pea vines, spring beans, etc. There was a tortelloni dish that particularly stood out. The wrapper was so delicate and thin and bursting with the flavor of asparagus. The pace of dinner was great and the portion sizes were perfect for me. I felt full but not uncomfortable by the end and was able to fully enjoy the cheese and dessert courses. I would love to return for future special occasions.
One of our best dining experiences, ever. We often splurge on a big deal restaurant meal when traveling, so have been to many places of this caliber. Altura is right up there, maybe even surpassing, Victoria & Albert's private dining room in Orlando and Babbo in NYC.
Awesome!! Great experience. Will be coming back! (With an empty stomach)
Amazing food and amazing experience.
Sat at the counter and watched the art being created. Wonderful.
Best restaurant in Seattle and it's not really that close imo
Very pleasant experience. My wife and I loved it overall.
Being a foodie and dining often, I would not say this lightly....Best meal you will ever have! The presentation, preparation is unlike anything you will ever experience! Amazing and best dining experience ever! Definitely do the set menu and If available the valentines upgrade is well worth it! I’ve been to Canlis many times and after eating at Altura I could never go back to Canlis for food. Altura is in a league of its own for food. No view (Canlis has the best view) but when I dine out I am going for food not a view.
Meal was not good. The pacing of the meal was inconsistent.
No point talking about the dishes because the menu will be totally different by the time you read this. Just know that I've been to Alinea, Per Se, Grace, EMP, and French Laundry. This place is one of the three best meals of my life. And for the quality, an amazing value.
Amazing! Simply amazing! One of the most inventive, original and enjoyable meals of my life.
Excellent food as usual.
They accommodated and adjusted the meal for our gluten and wine allergies easily. They had called a couple of days in advance to make sure that they had everything.
I didn't know this, but after you've been there a few times, they have notes on you so that they know your preference (counter vs. table) and any allergies so they can be prepared.
Our group traveled from the San Francisco area to celebrate a milestone birthday and Altura delivered a memorable dinner as I knew it would! Every course brought exquisite taste and thoughtful presentation. Our wine pairings worked very well and I would highly encourage future diners to give serious thought to taking advantage of the pairing option so that you can get a balanced dining experience throughout your meal. Well done Chef Lockwood and staff. We will be back again soon!
Once again Chef Nathan Lockwood and his amazing team created a mesmerizing journey of complex and sophisticated flavors, one bite at a time. This continues to be our favorite Seattle restaurant. If you’re reading this review, stop looking and just book already! You won’t be disappointed.
Best dining experience I have ever had. I felt like I was the recipient entrees on the show "Top Chef". I'll come back every Anniversary
Last night, the Altura team were on their game once again. We brought some friends who had never been to Altura, and they’re still reeling. It’s been a while since my wife and I last dined at Altura, so was our first time seeing the entire menu pre fixe. It’s an excellent step! We always enjoyed the pre fixe option, but it seems to have only become more adventurous and surprising since we last visited.
If you have not yet gone to Altura, go. This is an extraordinary chef with an extraordinary team around him. Everyone is focused, warm and top notch, from the dishwasher lady to the bus staff to the sommelier to the kitchen staff.
Chef, well done, and we will be back!
A plus! Bomb. Will come back.
We have always wanted to try Altura and I am glad we went. It was an experience! But honestly, I thought the food, while insanely imaginative, did not actually taste that good. Additionally, with an 800+ price tag, I think I would rather just go somewhere else, get something yummy and buy an epic bottle of wine (and probably save 400 dollars). I appreciated the amazing service and the creativity. Perhaps it’s a little bit like haute couture? It’s meant to be celebrated on the runway as art, but you wouldn’t actually wear it? I still had a fun time with the experience of eating!
I took my wife to Altura on a Tuesday night for our 30th wedding anniversary. We wanted a unique experience and a setting allowing for good conversation...we got exactly what we wanted!
Great wine selection
Staff was ON POINT.....We made the right choice!
Out of this world experience. Nathan Lockwood is a highly talented chef that deserves to be mentioned into the top class of international chefs. From the finger foods such as Venison Crudo with black trumpet mushrooms and white truffle snow, over to smoked steelhead Zabaglione, goat cheese Gnocchi, Ravioli with black truffle, and a further highlight the 6 week Dry Aged Duck.
Paired with the perfect wine, all delivered by a very pleasant staff - this made for one of the best food evenings in a long time.
After this one ascends to food heaven.
Thank you to the team of Altura.
If there is one negative remark? You are in the wrong town, wish you were closer to the Silicon Valley area. When are you opening up there? (LoL)
Amazing service and ambience. Would absolutely recommend.
It was our 2nd trip to Altura and we were thrilled to be back. The food - as always - was beyond outstanding. We sat at the counter and talked about food all night with the chefs. Great experience - and so fun! We'll definitely be back for a 3rd time.
Exceptional and memorable meal. I will be recommending this place to everyone in my network.
Had a wonderful experience at Altura with family and friends who were new to the tasting menu style. Service was attentive and food experience was memorable; highly recommend.
Altura was one of the best culinary experiences we've ever had! With it's unassuming location next to a neighborhood nail salon and sushi bar, you are welcomed into a charming dining area decorated with old world art and dried persimmons floating down from the ceiling. The open kitchen allows us to peer into the world of creativity, packing perfection into every bite. Chef and owner Nathan Lockwood sets an approachable environment; a seemingly unattainable combination of high-class dining and elite palate with friendly hospitality from salt-of-the-earth staff members. We could write pages about their 12-course meal, but instead we'll suggest you try it for yourself, and definitely add the optional black truffle pasta. We have been fortunate to explore our passion for food at many James Beard and Michelin restaurants, without a doubt, Altura was nothing short of Michelin experience. Hats off to the team!
Every single thing on the 18 course menu was amazing! The cocktails were authentic and tasted great! Service was perfect. Can’t wait to go again!
A dining experience. Fun to watch all the chefs at work. Like watching a cooking competition in action. But I didn't actually like most of the food. Too rich when taken all together even though dishes were each small. Felt like a money grab from all the young Amazon employees. I would only recommend to specific people, and I would give details so they know what their getting into.
It was alright, decent food but way too expensive. Wouldn't visit again.
