Altura Ratings and Reviews
I took my wife there for her birthday. Best dining experience we have had. Unfortunately one of the waiters bumped our almost empty wine bottle over, however they quickly cleaned it up and gave us 2 free glasses from a new bottle. Highly recommend and excellent service.
Incredible food experience. Immaculately crafted fare in which every bite makes even the most discerning tastebuds go "wow" or, better, simply "mmmmm."
The tasting menu was wonderfully adapted to my vegetarian diet and extremely close to reaching an exceptionally astounding rating of near perfection, EXCEPT if it weren't for one tasting containing foie gras that the Chef did not modify for my menu, in which the server suggested to "give it to a friend, or turn a blind eye and pretend it's cashew butter." While with fully good intention, the gesture felt mildly offensive: not only does a vegetarian not eat animals, but even more importantly not condone the living torture of force-fed animals; that, and considering that my diet preference was provided to the Chef over 2 weeks in advance and the $137 cost of the tasting menu, I would have liked to see better accommodation and sensitivity to my dietary request.
This was the second time we dined at Altura. The food was very good, not excellent however, particularly for the pricepoint of $137. pp. The service was awful, with the waitress mixing up our meals and giving us the check of another table. The wine we brought in was taken to the back of the restaurant (properly it should not leave the table) and the sommelier tasted the wine we brought in (corkage fee of $35.!) - something I never heard of! When questioned about this he said "high end restaurants in New York and San Francisco do this" - he needs an education - the cork wasn't even brought to me to inspect. Disturbingly, several of the waitstaff 'tasted' the wine poured for the wine pairings of other patrons. This was our anniversary dinner and apart from some recognition, it was a poor experience and I'll not return. There are many better options in the area.
I travel all over the country and enjoy great food in many of the most 'food worthy' cities. Altura ranks up there with the best of the best. While I generally find Seattle lacking in top notch food options for a city of its size, location and sophistication, altura restores my faith in seattle chefs. Amazing and creative food at every step made even more stellar with expert pairings with each course. Pricey but worth it if you truly enjoy amazing and creative food!
Hands down, Altura surpassed all expectations we may have had coming into our dining experience. My wife and I were celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary. One of the stand out attributes of Altura was the personal service from not only our server but many of their chefs from the kitchen line served and explained the dishes to us. But without question, the food was amazing! Course after course we found ourselves saying, "That's my favorite," until we reached the end and we came to the conclusion that this was one of our best dining experiences we've ever had. I will say that at the end of the night it was the most money my wife and I have ever spent in one sitting but we didn't have any regrets cause it was so special for us! We highly recommend Altura and hope to dine with them again in the future.
This was our second time back, the celebrate my boyfriend's job promotion. . Each time was absolutely wonderful from start to finish. The food, the staff, even the creative dishes that they serve on create such an exciting experience. We've enjoyed the modern pairings for drinks that added a nice flair. Can't say enough good things!
Everything was fantastic. Exceeded all expectations from the cuisine to the wine to the service. Hands down the best restaurant in Seattle unless you are looking for just traditional steak and seafood dishes and nothing outside of the box. The combinations of ingredients was cutting edge. After listening to the careful description guiding you through every course, you'd maybe think that some ingredients all together would not please your palette, but low and behold each and every dish was amazing with every bite. Not one course disappointed. The sommelier was one of the most knowledgible I have run across and having said that; the wine list speaks for itself. Absolutely delightful all around! We will be back:)
The food was incredible. Amazing flavor prepared by an amazing chef and staff. We loved the prefix menu selection and sitting at the counter interacting with the staff. Our server Alex was also great and ensured we had a we got the most out of our experience. However the wine service fell short of our expectation. The sommelier did a poor job explaining the wine selection which was considerably more expensive compared to similar restaurants like Mistral, Herbfarm, Crush, etc. In addition we were charged for the more expensive Classic wine pairing and received the less expensive Modern pairing. No complaints on the wine selection, but the service was poorly executed and being overcharged was disappointing.
However, we enjoyed the food and the presentation so much that we highly suggest it to others who enjoy a prefix menu dining experience. Just pay attention to the wine service.
This is the second time I've come to enjoy Altura for a birthday and it was spectacular. This was a joint birthday for my son and daughter-in-law and the first time they've had a dining experience like this. Each presentation and bite was enjoyed immensely and the wine pairing, outstanding. The service excellent. Thank for you an amazing experience.
Initially the restaurant was super accommodating of a time change for our reservation and had asked about dietary restrictions. When our party of 6 arrived we were crammed into a table that really only accommodated 4 ppl comfortably. The servers ran into me with every course delivered to the table. My nut allergy was really only addressed with one course there were 2 others that I could only partially partake in due to nuts. Also, the service for a reataurant charging as much as that should have been way more elevated. I was tempted not to leave a tip but having worked in the industry know that would not have been fair to the rest of the staff. All in all pretty disappointed.
Amazing food, presentation, and service. Given the price (all in @ $1000 for 3 people, in which 1 wine taster was shared), this is really a place one might go to on a very, very, very, special occasion. The food was completely incredible though. There was a dampener to the evening, though. In our party of 3, I had 2 dishes that were different from the other 2 (I don't each clams etc). My wife and father were both sick later that night. I was totally fine. I emailed the restaurant to let them know, but have not yet received any acknowledgement.
We had a wonderful experience at Altura. The tasting menu was amazing and the double wine pairing was even more fantastic. I wish I didn't live on the other side of the country, as I would love to make this a regular place to visit. We own an Italian restaurant in Boston, so it was even more special to enjoy authentic Italian cuisine.
Favorite restaurant in Seattle! We dine here at least twice a year and it's always an amazing experience. Not only is the food amazing and the staff friendly, each course is creatively presented. The venue is intimate, holds about 40, warmly lit, with great views of the kitchen. The chefs even came to our table to present a course or two. Be sure to get the wine pairing! Great night!
