Altura Ratings and Reviews
I took my wife here for her birthday and we had an absolutely fantastic time. The staff went out of their way to make it a special occasion. The sommelier on duty was extremely pleasant and made some of the best pairings we'd experienced to date, accompanied by a meal that left us sated, satisfied, and happy.
Mixed feelings. Some of the food was so outstanding as to deserve a greater star rating than provided. And yet, for over $500 for two people - one cocktail each and one glass of wine each - I expect my preference on how my steak is cooked to be respected. I said to the waiter that I would like my steak cooked medium-rare, and he replied that it would be presented quite rare, and that was the only way they would serve it. So I had the salmon instead. My partner had the steak, and it was almost raw, preventing their enjoyment of it. Overall impression is that the arrogant chef ruined our expensive dining experience.
We were absolutely stunned about Altura- it FAR exceeded our expectations. The food is absolutely impeccable from start to finish. I think this is one of the best restaurants I've ever eaten at and the best food in Seattle. What a wonderful gem. I will try to come back as much as I can!
One of my favorite restaurants I've ever been to! The food and service was something I hadn't experienced before. The restaurant turned foods I don't usually like into wonderful flavors and dishes had unique flavors I'd never experienced before. You can tell how deliberate and careful the food is prepared. The service was just right, not too intrusive. Definitely a great place to go for a special occasion.
WOW!!!!! We just moved here from NJ, I just did a search of top places to eat in seattle and Altura popped up. what a wonderful surprise. The food was exceptional and is on Par with 11 Mad Park in NYC. We will take our foodie friends when they come to visit. It was just wonderful.
This is a remarkable restaurant. Innovative food using seasonal ingredients. Truly delicious. This is definitely a go to restaurant for special occasions, or for people who want a fine dining experience. The menu is a chef's choice tasting menu, but they do ask about preferences and allergies. Some things we loved, but aren't everybody's cup of tea are a fois gras course, the best steak tartar I have ever eaten ( wagyu beef and a quail's egg yolk), and amazing smoked salmon roe. Kudos to the chef and staff.
If I could give Altura 100 stars, I would. Expensive, yes. However, the experience was priceless. It was my boyfriend's birthday and we opted to sit at the counter, which was absolutely amazing. Each and every member of that team made us feel as though we were their only priority. We also enjoyed the modern wine pairing, which the sommelier tailored to my liking. I'm not much of a white wine drinker, so she would bring a taste of what she recommended with the course, and also something more along my palette lines. The food. Words can't do t justice. So I won't even try. And the fact that there were probably16-17 different pieces for me to enjoy, you in no way could leave hungry. It was fascinating to be able to watch them build each course. Chef is amazing as well. He was personable and passionate about his creations. They were also kind enough to personalize my boyfriend's final course with, "Happy Birthday, Raj" scrolled out on the plate. Also, to note, I also loved seeing how happy the staff seemed to work there. Just an amazing experience, start to finish. To quote Raj walking out, "Oh my God. This is the best birthday ever."
We have been fans of Altura since it opened and it had become our go-to for special dinners. On our recent visit, however, things were a bit off. The service wasn't quite up to par with several minor missteps throughout the evening. In addition, a member of our party had a shellfish allergy which we told them about prior to our arrival. For one course they nicely made a substitution but in another course they simply served the rest of the table and she sat there with no food. The waiter made no comment or apology - it simply wasn't addressed until we said something later and he remarked that they can't always substitute. Really? It was incredibly disappointing behavior from a restaurant of this caliber.
special doesn't do it justice.
12 courses all delicious and more interesting than the one before it.
this isn't for every night dining mind you, but for a very special culinary experience for a special night, it's a walk off bottom of the ninth grand slam winner
This is a MUST if you're in Seattle. Dine at the chef's counter so you can watch the magic crafted by Chef Nathan Lockwood & his fabulous team. The $137 tasting menu is worth every penny. The team accommodates dietary preferences so don't worry, you will be to devour all dishes. Dinner started with tasty small bites of king salmon cured with beets to sea urchin cannoli to geoduck variations to foie gras macaron & scallop baked with onion and osetra caviar. Next was beef crudo with quail egg (roasted beets for me since I don't eat beef). Then came the risotto & tortellini, perfectly al dente & full of flavor. The main entrees were wagyu beef with mushrooms & wild greens, which he devoured, & halibut roasted in wild onion ashes with garden radish, which I devoured. For fans of cheese, dessert will be your favorite. The wine pairing complimented the flavor of each dish beautifully. All in all, a delicious meal to end our trip.
My wife and I had an amazing experience for dinner. We were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and loved the entire evening. Our server Daniel was terrific and we enjoyed talking wine with Russell, the sommelier. It's not an inexpensive night out but it is a huge value. I recommend doing the classic wine pairing (and getting an Uber). Amazing meal. We sat at the counter and enjoyed getting to interact with the chefs. Awesome place.
After reading all the reviews, expectations were high. . .and we were not disappointed! Truly a remarkable dining experience - food, service from the servers and the ambience were all outstanding! I would eagerly return to Altura - you will leave fully satisfied - and full!
My husband and I went to Altura for my bday, which was 10x better because we went to Altura. We sat at the bar for the tasting menu and were able to watch the chefs in action - in awe of the art they were creating. The culinary treat we received will forever be memorable to my husband and me. The meal starts with a slew of one-bite apps (they call it their stuzzichini) - I really loved the pancetta-wrapped muscle, but the menu is always different/seasonal. The meal goes on with various courses, a salad, a pasta, breads with in-house cured meats, entrees and lastly, the desserts (not to mention the treats you walk away with). The ambiance is intimate and high-end. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a fine dining experience in Seattle.
I have dined at this restaurant three times and have enjoyed myself each time. The food is presented very attractively. The food is always fresh and flavorful. Seating is comfortable. The chief always accommodates my vegan diet. The service is good. Dining at this restaurant is always an experience to be relished. I like the cozy atmosphere.
This restaurant is insanely expensive. To their credit they warn people in advance about the minimum meal price; however that is somewhat misleading as the wine pairings are double the meal price. My husband and I asked for the classic Italian wine pairing, never imagining it would be $330 each. Nowhere was the price of that wine pairing make clear to us in advance. Granted, it was a delicious meal; but the number of courses was simply overwhelming. The wine pairings were lovely, but they were simply too much. We could barely walk after our meal – which is not romantic – and in the end, because the service was so good and we felt obliged to tip 20%, we were saddled with a $900 bill. We will never go there again.
Amazing meal for our 1st wedding anniversary. Out of the 15-ish things we tasted that night, there was only one or two that I didn't LOVE (but still liked them!). This is not a cheap meal, so I don't plan to be back any time soon, but it was definitely an amazing meal I'll remember for a very long time!
The new 14 per determined course option is a fantastic idea. Loved sitting down and not having to decide anything, but still having a fantasic meal. Our table wasnt quite ready for our reservation time so we were giving a complimentary bottle of prosecco while we waited which was a phenomenal touch.
Altura was the best thing that happened to me and my wife as a random impromptu night. I was searching for a Michelen star restaurant for an impromptu date and decided to go to altura after an event on Friday. After being seated, we understood it's a seven course meal with no menus and so we knew it's going to be expensive but we decided to go with the flow. However the food is worth every penny and the bar tenders make great cocktails. It is the best 7 course meal in Seattle in my opinion!!
