Altura Ratings and Reviews
Being a foodie and dining often, I would not say this lightly....Best meal you will ever have! The presentation, preparation is unlike anything you will ever experience! Amazing and best dining experience ever! Definitely do the set menu and If available the valentines upgrade is well worth it! I’ve been to Canlis many times and after eating at Altura I could never go back to Canlis for food. Altura is in a league of its own for food. No view (Canlis has the best view) but when I dine out I am going for food not a view.
No point talking about the dishes because the menu will be totally different by the time you read this. Just know that I've been to Alinea, Per Se, Grace, EMP, and French Laundry. This place is one of the three best meals of my life. And for the quality, an amazing value.
Excellent food as usual.
They accommodated and adjusted the meal for our gluten and wine allergies easily. They had called a couple of days in advance to make sure that they had everything.
I didn't know this, but after you've been there a few times, they have notes on you so that they know your preference (counter vs. table) and any allergies so they can be prepared.
Our group traveled from the San Francisco area to celebrate a milestone birthday and Altura delivered a memorable dinner as I knew it would! Every course brought exquisite taste and thoughtful presentation. Our wine pairings worked very well and I would highly encourage future diners to give serious thought to taking advantage of the pairing option so that you can get a balanced dining experience throughout your meal. Well done Chef Lockwood and staff. We will be back again soon!
Once again Chef Nathan Lockwood and his amazing team created a mesmerizing journey of complex and sophisticated flavors, one bite at a time. This continues to be our favorite Seattle restaurant. If you’re reading this review, stop looking and just book already! You won’t be disappointed.
Last night, the Altura team were on their game once again. We brought some friends who had never been to Altura, and they’re still reeling. It’s been a while since my wife and I last dined at Altura, so was our first time seeing the entire menu pre fixe. It’s an excellent step! We always enjoyed the pre fixe option, but it seems to have only become more adventurous and surprising since we last visited.
If you have not yet gone to Altura, go. This is an extraordinary chef with an extraordinary team around him. Everyone is focused, warm and top notch, from the dishwasher lady to the bus staff to the sommelier to the kitchen staff.
Chef, well done, and we will be back!
We have always wanted to try Altura and I am glad we went. It was an experience! But honestly, I thought the food, while insanely imaginative, did not actually taste that good. Additionally, with an 800+ price tag, I think I would rather just go somewhere else, get something yummy and buy an epic bottle of wine (and probably save 400 dollars). I appreciated the amazing service and the creativity. Perhaps it’s a little bit like haute couture? It’s meant to be celebrated on the runway as art, but you wouldn’t actually wear it? I still had a fun time with the experience of eating!
I took my wife to Altura on a Tuesday night for our 30th wedding anniversary. We wanted a unique experience and a setting allowing for good conversation...we got exactly what we wanted!
Great wine selection
Staff was ON POINT.....We made the right choice!
Out of this world experience. Nathan Lockwood is a highly talented chef that deserves to be mentioned into the top class of international chefs. From the finger foods such as Venison Crudo with black trumpet mushrooms and white truffle snow, over to smoked steelhead Zabaglione, goat cheese Gnocchi, Ravioli with black truffle, and a further highlight the 6 week Dry Aged Duck.
Paired with the perfect wine, all delivered by a very pleasant staff - this made for one of the best food evenings in a long time.
After this one ascends to food heaven.
Thank you to the team of Altura.
If there is one negative remark? You are in the wrong town, wish you were closer to the Silicon Valley area. When are you opening up there? (LoL)
Altura was one of the best culinary experiences we've ever had! With it's unassuming location next to a neighborhood nail salon and sushi bar, you are welcomed into a charming dining area decorated with old world art and dried persimmons floating down from the ceiling. The open kitchen allows us to peer into the world of creativity, packing perfection into every bite. Chef and owner Nathan Lockwood sets an approachable environment; a seemingly unattainable combination of high-class dining and elite palate with friendly hospitality from salt-of-the-earth staff members. We could write pages about their 12-course meal, but instead we'll suggest you try it for yourself, and definitely add the optional black truffle pasta. We have been fortunate to explore our passion for food at many James Beard and Michelin restaurants, without a doubt, Altura was nothing short of Michelin experience. Hats off to the team!
A dining experience. Fun to watch all the chefs at work. Like watching a cooking competition in action. But I didn't actually like most of the food. Too rich when taken all together even though dishes were each small. Felt like a money grab from all the young Amazon employees. I would only recommend to specific people, and I would give details so they know what their getting into.
I took my wife there for her birthday. Best dining experience we have had. Unfortunately one of the waiters bumped our almost empty wine bottle over, however they quickly cleaned it up and gave us 2 free glasses from a new bottle. Highly recommend and excellent service.
Incredible food experience. Immaculately crafted fare in which every bite makes even the most discerning tastebuds go "wow" or, better, simply "mmmmm."
The tasting menu was wonderfully adapted to my vegetarian diet and extremely close to reaching an exceptionally astounding rating of near perfection, EXCEPT if it weren't for one tasting containing foie gras that the Chef did not modify for my menu, in which the server suggested to "give it to a friend, or turn a blind eye and pretend it's cashew butter." While with fully good intention, the gesture felt mildly offensive: not only does a vegetarian not eat animals, but even more importantly not condone the living torture of force-fed animals; that, and considering that my diet preference was provided to the Chef over 2 weeks in advance and the $137 cost of the tasting menu, I would have liked to see better accommodation and sensitivity to my dietary request.
This was the second time we dined at Altura. The food was very good, not excellent however, particularly for the pricepoint of $137. pp. The service was awful, with the waitress mixing up our meals and giving us the check of another table. The wine we brought in was taken to the back of the restaurant (properly it should not leave the table) and the sommelier tasted the wine we brought in (corkage fee of $35.!) - something I never heard of! When questioned about this he said "high end restaurants in New York and San Francisco do this" - he needs an education - the cork wasn't even brought to me to inspect. Disturbingly, several of the waitstaff 'tasted' the wine poured for the wine pairings of other patrons. This was our anniversary dinner and apart from some recognition, it was a poor experience and I'll not return. There are many better options in the area.
I travel all over the country and enjoy great food in many of the most 'food worthy' cities. Altura ranks up there with the best of the best. While I generally find Seattle lacking in top notch food options for a city of its size, location and sophistication, altura restores my faith in seattle chefs. Amazing and creative food at every step made even more stellar with expert pairings with each course. Pricey but worth it if you truly enjoy amazing and creative food!
