The seasonal cuisine is focused on locally sourced ingredients from Florida, highlighting the States rich seafood offering, tropical fruits, vegetables and meats.
Alter’s beverage program includes an uncompromising wine selection that span from top well known producers to small artisanal growers from around the world.
It was our anniversary and they treated us like king and queen. They left us a handwritten letter congratulating us, did not rush us at any moment (even though we were enjoying the Miami Spice Menu). The food is outstanding. A true culinary experience, similar to the ones you watch on Netflix’s Chef’s Table. The place is low-key, unique and snobby-less (if that’s a word). True to what it’s supposed to stand for. “Industrial American Cuisine”. One of my favorite culinary experiences in Miami hands down. Please take the time to enjoy this restaurant and all it has to offer.
The food was amazing, and the best part is that in The Miami Spice menu has the famous Soft egg on it!
Whoever rated this restaurant with a one star must have just been released from an institution with a onesie or is part of the competition. Alter your plans and head over to Alter restaurant for a fantastic meal. This small dining area has favorable food rich for any palate. I ordered from the Miami spice menu, starting with the soft egg with Sea scallop foam and Gruyere cheese. The lamb belly was tender and tasty sitting above celestial cabbage. The umami butter was finger licking good yet there was plenty of bread to spread it on. The desserts may sound cheesy but the Radish and Cheese, and Humboldt Fog Cheese will connect with your consciousness. Chef Bradley Kilgore is creative and will alter your perspective.
Fantastic food! This is probably some of the finest dining I’ve experienced in a long time. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Outstanding tasting menu for Miami Spice! Each course was creatively prepared and plated. The flavors and quality is excellent!!
Looking forward to returning there very soon!
This was easily one of the best meals my girlfriend and I have ever had out! The experience was absolutely sublime. From the presentation and flair and especially the taste, everything was absolutely perfect. Would highly recommend for anyone looking for a special night out! Was truly a unique dining experience. We will absolutely be coming back!
Amazing food and service. Loved everything about it!
It was a Birthday celebration. We had a fantastic dinning experience.
If the Michelin Guide reviewed restaurants in Miami, Alter would have at least One Michelin Star. This is the best restaurant in Miami, by far, and dare I say the best restaurant south of Washington, DC.
I eat out a lot and consider myself a foodie. I'm always looking for new adventures in food. Alter was fantastic! I absolutely loved their creativity with food. Everything was so fresh, no crumb left un0turned. The wine list was amazing as well.
Spectacular food, service, wine, everything. Went for a birthday, had an amazing dinner and experience.
Refreshing and inventive! The dishes are almost to pretty to eat!!
Food is amazing, but service was really outstanding. My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary and in our table was waiting a card hand dedicated and signed by all the restaurant personnel together with two champagne glasses. Highly recommended for special occasions.
My first impression walking into Alter was disappointing because upon arrival there was no receptionist or seating host/hostess to greet us at the door and check our reservation. We just stood there for a couple of minutes before finally one of the servers acknowledged us and seated us.
Still, I did not allow that to cloud my judgement of the food. We opted for the full “chef’s experience” tasting menu and started our journey.
The food LOOKED absolutely beautiful presentation-wise. All the dishes were decorated exquisitely and plated perfectly. However, every single course was lacking taste-wise. The first course was a chowder with some sort of cheese and liquified asparagus. It was bland and served at room temperature. The scallops in the second course tasted and smelled very fishy, definitely not fresh. The third course was a liquified chicken liver in a mini pie-crust served with side sauces; unfortunately extremely unappetizing both in smell and flavor. The next course was chewy bread and over-salted butter with a liquified egg soup. There were WAY too many courses presenting the same liquified texture. Every other course that followed was extremely over-salted to the point that it was inedible. Although the dishes were an attempt at innovation, the flavor combinations and profiles did not complement one another. The lamb meat under the lasagna dish was so over-seasoned, it was gag-inducing. I cannot say that there was a dish I actually enjoyed. Many people around us agreed and dishes were sent back full of food. The servers never once asked if we enjoyed any of the dishes they served. I expected much more from a restaurant with Brad Kilgore’s name on it. I have dined at numerous Michelin-starred restaurants and even recently visited Kilgore’s Ama-kase at Kaiido which was magnificent. It is truly sad to see Alter has been neglected. I urge whoever is in charge to sit down and try the food that they are serving to guests.
The Food and the Service was fantastic. The ambiance is very casual. Nothing fancy, which I actually prefer. It is a bit pricey, but the experience is well worth it. Most of our guest had the 7 Course Menu and one had the Chef's Gastronomic experience. We were all very impressed. Well worth trying this hidden gem.
Nice dishes specially when doing the drink pairings. Recommend the bread butter and egg.
Everything was wonderful. The only complaint, if any, was the food preparation and dinner did not match the atmosphere. The dinner was high level, very expensive. The vibe is more dive bar/diner. They play rock and roll fairly loudly, there are no table cloths, the waiters wear jeans. I tend to expect a certain level to go along with the prices they charge. I have been to several Michelin Star restaurants in the Chicago area, and in terms of decorum, this just doesn’t match up. The prices are the same though. I just felt like this restaurant needed to be in a different location, and made to be more elegant for the prices. Numerous people came into the restaurant, only to get up and leave when they saw the prices and the fact that it is a tasting menu. The area just doesn’t seem to attract the normal clientele that would pay over $600 for a dinner for two. All that being said, the food and service were superb.
Great experience and terrific food. Wait staff super knowledgeable and clearly passionate. Will return any time I’m in Miami!
One of the best meals of my life. Excellent modernist tastings menu, but with great respect for the natural flavor of the ingredients. As others have suggested, we added the soft egg and the butter, both of which were outstanding. Very cool art-industrial vibe to the decor. Strongly recommend.
Food was over salty. Service was marginal
Amazing, phenomenal, speechless. Go here.
A wonderful experience. New and different
Try the egg!
Miguel our server was phenomenal!! Incredible dining experience for foodies!
The food and the service is always amazing. Keep it up Brad....
All around perfect.
Really fantastic food - creative flavors and combinations. The chef was very accommodating to allergies at our table and the wait staff was very knowledgeable about the menu and really pleasant and professional.
The tables are too close to each other. Ambience is spoiled from being distracted due to being so close and witnessing the bad table manners and hearing the conversation of the annoying couple seated next to you.
Loved everything about this place.10/10
Creative but complex preparations and so many ingredients and sauces I couldn’t keep track. Obviously a talented chef but trying too hard.
Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. Terrible.
Do not waste your time and money on this restaurant. It took us 2 hours to get through 2.5 courses, and we had yet to taste any distinct flavors or crunch anything. The first three courses were literally mush with no flavor. Everyone at the table was literally miserable and we debated getting up and leaving. When we told the server and manager at the end of the meal that we were disappointed and miserable, they told us we should have said something earlier. Next time we will. We felt a bit trapped because they was nothing else on the menu besides what we ordered and it was all lifeless. We have had a lot of tasting menu experiences around the world and in large cities and everyone of them was head and shoulders above alter. Do not go unless the menu is drastically changed from the March 2019 cold pumpkin and taziki soup (no texture, barely there terrible flavor), beef tartare (no texture, no flavor), soft egg(no texture, no flavor), $8 bread (we ordered extra just to try and find some texture), long noodles (first time we had to chew in 2 hours), barramundi (fine, not great) stuffed quail (there was a slight hint of sausage flavor), and some sort of mushy dessert with random flavors smeared on the plate. We are upset that we wasters our last night in Miami, our time and our money on this place. It was $200 a head with the wine we chose. We left hungry and grossed out, so we went to Melinda’s for some crunchy nachos (with texture). Consider yourself warned.
Great place ! We got 5 course meal !
Very disappointed in our dining experience. This was the most underwhelming tasting menu I’ve ever had.
Pretentious, confusing and horribly unsatisfying combination of flavors. Beef tartare looked like cat food and only moderately tasty. Servers knowledgeable but somehow socially superficial. We would not go back nor recommend Alter to anyone.
The pre-fix menu was not as good as last time (last year). It was still fine, but it's difficult not to compare it to the menu from last year, which was amazing.
Absolutely loved it. We chose the 8 course Chef's menu and each and every course was a delightful experience. We enjoyed everything about it and we had a lovely waitress who was incredibly passionate about food. We can't recommend this place highly enough. If you love food and like to try unusual dishes which work perfectly- then go here!
Alter was recommended by the bartender at our hotel. It was an amazing experience. Excellent food and beverages. The bartender at Alter came over to ask how I specifically wanted my drink prepared and he did not disappoint. Every course of the meal was truly outstanding!!
Do not waste your money on this restaurant. It was one of the worst dining experiences we have ever had. The tzatziki ice cream was so salty we took one bite and felt like we swallowed the ocean. The beef tartare was from a mediocre cut and has the consistency of extra mushy ground meat and the mole sauce had absolutely no flavour. The barramundi smelled so bad that it ruined the food experience. The next course had mushrooms in it that clearly hadn’t been washed properly because we got a mouthful of sand, and the quail was severely underwhelming. The foie tart was the only dish that wasn’t bad. But after 6 courses (we didn’t even bother to stay for dessert) of minuscule portions we left starving and went around the corner for tacos feeling like we had been robbed. The only decent thing about our evening was the wine recommendation.
Since Michael has gone, the menu and the business model has changed. Tasting Menu not worth the price, with items I would never order again. One has to buy the entire menu to order Wagyu beef, for example. Brad Kilcher and the sister Japanese restaurant Kaido can take a hike on the value of the experience now.
Must have the “soft egg”!!!
