Chef Paul Ragan brings a feast of flavors to the dinner table.
Altaeats features a cozy yet comfortable dining room as well as a private tasting menu table in the "Chef's Office" which can be reserved for up to 6 "close" friends with 24 hour notice.
We assign our tables as we get the reservations with all of our guests in mind so we can not guarantee specific tables.
Really delicious food. Great service. Thank you for making the evening very special; it was a birthday celebration and it felt like it couldn’t have been better.
I’ve been to Altaeats several times now, but this time was unique as it was a double-date with a long time friend and her husband and a new person in my life. None of them had been before and I was really hoping to impress them with a good time. By the end of the night, everyone was very happy.
We started with some bacon wrapped dates and skin-on red potatoes, both of which were excellent. We also got one of the mystery bottles of red wine, which turned out to be a lovely Pinot noir that was dry and went perfectly with dinner. For our main courses, we had the duck breast, the fish (which was barramundi today) and the lamb chops, all of which were very well prepared and full of flavor. Finally, we finished with a tasty apple tart for dessert. The cream was abit sweet but the tart itself was perfectly flaky and delicious.
The service at Altaeats is always outstanding and this time was no exception. Our server was very courteous and attentive. While I can’t say I was particularly wowed by anything this evening, but it was a very solid dining experience, and I will definitely be back again.
Worth the wait for the food! Absolutely delicious and everyone in our party of 8 was over the top thrilled with their meal. Going back this weekend!
Always fantastic food and service!!
The food is always fresh and innovative. We’ve always loved this intimate little gem. Highly recommend!
Each dish was well prepared with quality ingredients and good plating. Especially good were the quinoa salad and the duck breast.
Kudos to the chef for the creative delicious dishes! My 2 favorite dishes ordered that evening were the chickpeas and calamari appetizer and quinoa and kale salad. Will definitely be back!
Food was delicious and people were friendly - there’s no doubt this is the best restaurant in the area!
My second visit and I was less satisfied this time. I like the intimate ambience. The chef kindly accommodated a request for a side that was available for specials but not on the menu. Our food was delicious and healthy but the portions were too small. Even though I added a side vegetable, I was hungry after I finished. This is quite unusual for me. I don't like restaurants that over-feed people, but I was disappointed in the menu options, the size and value of the food, and the dessert service was quite slow.
Amazing dinner and great service. Great place to go out with friends
Food was great. Service was absolutely horrible. We went to altaeats for an early Father’s Day brunch and to celebrate my mother’s birthday. It took us 40 minutes to receive our food, which might be understandable if the restaurant was crowded but at the time we were there the restaurant was only a third full. When we received our food, the eggs were on the wrong plates, the biscuits were burnt, and we were missing our side of potatoes. They did offer to replace the biscuits after I pointed it out, but my dad does not like to inconvenience people and respectfully declined. They also gave us a gift card for the wait time, which I think is great customer service, but based on our most recent experience I don’t plan on returning to use it. There are much better restaurants out there with much better food and service.
Fresh ingredients! Delicious recipes. Intimate and trendy in an artistic neighborhood kind of way. We loved the specials. Beef Wellington and a Salmon dish on grilled beets with roast potatoes. Hate to rave too much because I want to always get a table there. 😜
Great food and great ambiance ... will always go back!
Excellent crabcake appetizer, roasted cauliflower, scallops, lamb, chocolate dessert
Colleen (C$) is wonderful!
Consistently amazing and highly recommended! So thankful this place has remained part of the community! Keep up the great work !
Altaeats is a neighborhood gem that you shouldn't miss. Non-descript on the outside; small, cozy, and delightful on the inside. I had the flat iron pork with fried plantains on a bed of black beans and it was arguably the best pork dish I've ever had. It was cooked to perfection and wonderfully juicy.
There is no parking and it’s in very busy street (a cars drive by really fast) so I had a hard time finding a good parking spot. Other than that the food was great( B plus)
And trendy inside. The clean restroom is always good! We will go back again
Brunch was wonderful. Everything on the menu is exceptional! Highly recommend to anyone looking for a great meal!
Really want to like this place but the dishes are hit or miss each time I’ve visited. Mother’s Day brunch was disappointing and the empty tables seem to reflect the problems.
Wow. The quality of service and the breadth and depth of the dining experience has fallen, considerably, I think since they acquired their license to sell beer and wine. It's not that the food is terrible, but it's pretty mediocre and certainly not worth the price of which it once was worthy. Sad days in Altadena. The dinner was okay, but I can go to Wisteria, in Sierra Madre, and know that the experience will be consistently a good one, and will be half to a third the price. This used to be an exceptional dining experience, but that's what happens. If you're interested in spending this much money, go to Union - still worth every penny!
Lamb and pork dishes were fabulous. Best plantains ever!!
It was our first time to have brunch at Altaeats, we loved all aspects of the brunch from the mimosas to the main course (the chicken and biscuits are to die for)!
Altaeats is now on our go to brunch/dinner list!
The staff is so kind, even opening up the door where they keep their purses, to show us where a special tasting menu event takes place. The food was great and the wine recommendation was perfect. To top it off, we met the chef next door serendipitously afterward - unassuming, consummately kind, and a master host.
Great service & great food.
Amazing food and service! This restaurant never disappoints. Our favorite neighborhood secret! First-time diners.....FYI - There are no markings on outside of restaurant and when blinds are pulled, it looks like a vacant building. Trust me, this is one of the very best restaurants in Pasadena. Go and enjoy!
Food and service is always excellent!!
This restaurant is our neighborhood gem. We come as often as possible, spend almost every special family occasion here as well as casual weekend brunches. The menu is ever changing and the creativity and freshness of the food is top notch. I would recommend AltaEats to anyone.
Great staff and food.
This little gem of a restaurant was quite cozy. The food was very good although the portions were extremely tiny for the price. Therefore I will not be returning here. I can pay the same amount for a high end restaurant and get more!
This little known, out of the way place in the very northern part of Pasadena is a gem. Great food, good wines, very solicitous service. A noise level that allows for conversation. Casual. It's the complete package.
Valentine's Day dinner, reservations made weeks in advance. When we arrived, hostess seated others (that arrived after we did) before us. We were then told that the only table available was right next to the front door (literally inches from the door), or sitting at what they termed the "counter," which was a narrow shelf-like spot in the back adjacent to the kitchen. We were given no other option. Hostess was unsympathetic. Since we had no interest in constant blasts from the cold, outside air, or having people waiting for a table standing over us as we ate, we reluctantly opted for the "counter." That was a mistake. Cramped, loud (from the kitchen), uncomfortable. The entire evening was pretty much ruined for us. It might have been different if we were walk-ins, but I don't expect to be relegated to the worst seat in the house if I have a reservation. Seriously, if I'm paying $250+ for dinner, I'd like to sit be comfortable while I eat it. I really wanted to like this place, but we are totally turned off by the experience. Can't see any reason to go back, even though the food was fine.
Great as always! We seem to meet some interesting other diners every time we eat here and the servers are fun too!
Pleasant dining room with neutral decor allowing for a nice focus on the food and companions. Excellent service- I was offered a taste of two wines when I did not select an option straight off. Very flavorful kale quinoa salad (heavy on the quinoa) despite the fact that the kale was more like a condiment on top of the quinoa. The skirt steak and shredded lamb were both nicely seasoned and balanced with the right touch of an accompaniment. Nice wine selection but on the pricier side (glasses start at $12). You also have a choice of flat or sparkling in-house water which is always appreciated. I would definitely return.
Had a very nice experience at Altaeats. While there is no signage from the street and the actual decor is minimalistic the food and service were very good. Overall a very nice night out.
I am a regular though not frequent guest at Altaeats. I love the small and interesting menu, the excellent wine list and the atmosphere of a special small place run by a particular chef. I always have good food here.
Hidden gem - best date night. Exquisite food. Great service. Always returning
It is always a pleasure to have dinner at Altaeats and as always everyone loves the food, drink, staff, and restaurant as a whole.
Already a long-time dinner customer, now a brunch believer. Stellar from start to finish.
Nice food home made style , and everything was delicious , for sure It will be my favorite Restaurant
