El restaurante Alta ocupa una hermosa casa unifamiliar del siglo XIX situada en pleno Greenwich Village. La zona de salón principal mide 8 metros de altura y data de principios del siglo. Ya desde la puerta se percibe sensación de cálida bienvenida, y en invierno hay 2 chimeneas de leña encendidas. En verano, las puertas están abiertas, y da la sensación de que el Mediterráneo está cerca. El restaurante sirve platillos pequeños, lo que permite conocer más sabores, y en su comida hay influencia de todos los países del litoral mediterráneo. El chef del Alta es Larry Baldwin, dotado de gusto y creatividad para seleccionar sabores y texturas cuidadosamente en todos los productos de su menú de platillos, repleto de deliciosas sorpresas. The Mezzanine and Main Dining Room can accommodate anything from passed hors d'oeuvres and drinks for up to 100 guests to a full sit down dinner for up to 100 guests. We were first seated on the main floor. It was very loud and difficult to carry on a conversation. Staff were very accommodating and moved us to a quieter location. We were pleased as we were assigned a new server who was much more friendly than the first. Our second server was phenomenal. We took many of his recommendations and loved them all! Short ribs, Brussel sprouts, carrots, lamb meat balls and agnolotti were some of our favourites.

After suggesting that my son take me to Alta for Mother's Day, he requested a return visit for his birthday. Considering that he's a discriminating diner, that was a tribute to the restaurant. The menus were personalized with Happy Birthday. The food was extraordinary once again, as was the service. We ordered six small plates so that we could experience variety, and each was a unique treat. We were able to order two dishes at a time so we could assess our appetites and next choices. Our only frustration was that we couldn't eat more because there are so many tempting and creative options.

Beautiful space and while our food was good, if a wasn’t outstanding to justify the price point. My cocktail was also very poorly made, but red sangria was great. Glad I checked it out but probably won’t be back for dinner.

Here's the trouble with Alta. It's a beautiful space, you don't feel like you're in NY....but, the prices for what is brought to your table....in a word? RIDICULOUS. I'll repeat that: RIDICULOUS. For $26 they can absolutely, ABSOLUTELY, afford to give you TWICE.....TWICE the skirt steak (which is already a very, very cheap cut of steak, n'est-ce pas?) and twice the number of grilled shrimp, lamb meatballs, et al. But in the name of profit maximization and proof of a miserly, penny-wise, pound foolish restaurant, don't bet on getting anywhere near what you're being charged. It's shameful and it's unnecessary.....but, that's what they do. And they get away with it every night!!!

There was a mouse running around. We got a picture of him and showed our waiter...he kept running around the tables. We kept being served as if nothing was happening.

Positively delicious and memorable food, but we were so bummed by the incredibly loud party next to us when we had specifically requested, and were told we would have, a quiet table. An absolutely wonderful meal was literally ruined because we could not hear one another speak. Terribly disappointing.

Very romantic restaurant, set in a quaint atmosphere. The food is served tapas style, with lots of delicious options to choose from. The staff is very attentive. Get the Philadelphia Surprise!
