Alta occupies a beautiful 19th century townhouse in the heart of Greenwich Village. Our main dining area has a soaring 27-foot ceiling, and dates back to the early part of the century. There is a warm welcoming feeling as soon as you step through the doors. In the winter, we have two wood burning fireplaces to keep you warm. In the summer, the doors are open and you feel as if you could be close to the Mediterranean.

We are a small plate restaurant, and in our food you can discover the influence of all the countries surrounding the Mediterranean Sea, which we consider to be a wonderful flavor palate. The small plates allow you to experience more of these flavors.

Larry Baldwin is our chef at Alta. Gifted with a discerning and creative approach to tastes and textures, he carefully selects all the ingredients to compose a menu full of delicious surprises.

    I’ve been to Alta numerous times and have always enjoyed both the food and the ambiance. Although the ambiance is top notch, I was less than impressed with the sea bass on the menu. It was quite fishy in flavor and therefore not very enjoyable. The service I would say was okay as there were a few times where I was searching for my server during my meal.

    A gem. Not a weak link in a chain of delicious and varied dishes. Excellent service by waiter who was interested but not intrusive. A bit noisy downstairs but convivial atmosphere.

    Food was great- the burrata, bass, and fried goat cheese were all highlights- but everything we ordered (pescatarian) was so enjoyable. The chocolate lava cake was also excellent. Service was ok- we ordered espressos when we sat down and repeatedly asked about them for half an hour before they finally came. Our server could have been more forthcoming about this info instead of having us check in every time she walked by. My martini was drinkable but not very cold despite my heavy shake request. Overall would recommend because if the ambiance and food, however set your drink expectations in advance.

    I should have known when it started off badly. I saw that my reservation was cancelled via email. When I called the restaurant, a rude host told me I didn't call him back. This was within an hour, while I was in business meetings. During the meal one of our guests wasn't feeling well, and when we asked the waitress for a cup of tea, she replied that the coffee machine was broken. All we wanted was a cup of hot water. We asked if she could get it from the kitchen, to which she replied "Oh, I can't go into the kitchen." Later, our check was unceremoniously dropped onto our table.

    Alta is an amazing little restaurant tucked away in the West Village area. The food, service and atmosphere are all spot on. This easily can be defined as one of my favorite New York spots -- I will definitely be back!

    Service was incredibly slow. Took 10-15 minutes before a server came over to take our drink order. The paella took over an hour to be delivered to our table. The server acknowledged the delays and comped us the paella but we had a late reservation (9:30pm) and were starving by the time the food arrived so our experience was pretty negative.

    Alta is a fabulous hidden gem in Greenwich Village, just off 6th Avenue. Tapas plates are perfect for 2 people to split, are inventive, and delicious!!! And, the interior of the restaurant is awesome!!

    I cannot say enough nice things about this place. The atmosphere is quintessential NYC. The food was divine. Each dish was perfectly prepared. The service was excellent in spite of it being super crowded. I can’t wait to go back.

    The moment you step inside Alta you feel as though you’re somewhere magical. We had the fried hen mushrooms (incredible), the mussels (delicious but should come with crostini), tomato salad (refreshing), and the angolotti (tastes like fall). Our sever was helpful in giving detailed and honest recommendation. My only problem was we waited over 30+ min for our dessert. We thought for sure we’d get it complimentary being how long it took but no.

    extraordinary Tapas gem near the NYU campus. Excellent spread of food, everything is the best version I have ever had of that food. Especially the Brussels sprouts. The more the merrier, so you can try everything!

    Amazing food, wait can be long so make sure to have a reservation. Also, they only take cash so be prepared for that. Paella, gnocchi, yemen spiced chicken wings, and braised short rib were all delicious.

    We went for a birthday dinner. The ambience was terrific. The pricing wasn’t too bad. The quality of food was great - liked that we could share all the plates, which essentially made the experience like a tasting menu. One should order ~2 plates per person. The only complaint that I have was that our waitress was definitely on something - which made the night a bit entertaining but the service slow.

    I had dinner with out of town guests, and we all had a wonderful time. The food was excellent and the setting is just lovely. I've been before and will definitely be going again. Alta is a gem.

    Not allergy friendly. They basically told us we were out of luck. Apparently everything is made ahead of times and they can’t make any modifications. Also, cash and Amex only.

    I enjoyed my experience here very much! The food was incredible. We ordered the mussels, scallops, mushroom flatbread and the polenta. Everything was delicious. The waitress was so experienced with the menu! My friend was doing the Whole 30 and asked her what she could eat and she gave her an entire run-down of the menu, and knew exactly what had dairy and all that! I was impressed. The food is a bit pricey, but definitely worth it.

    We loved Alta - it has a fabulous bar and multiple dining rooms - great atmosphere and service. The small plates were incredible the scallops, the lamb, the salads and dips. This is a very cool and interesting restaurant.

    The place do not accept Visa or Mastercard and we had a client meeting where the check came upwards of 250$ and they didnt accept visa or mastercard. The food was delicious but quantity was less than a appetizer's quantity. Would recommend however very small quantity.

    Good variety of share plates. Quite a lot of seafood and vegetarian items on the menu as well. Because they're share plate style, we typically ordered 1 or 2 dishes at a time and they use runners to get them to your table quickly once they're ready. Most dishes seem to be setup for 2 people. The bass, octopus and empanadas were particularly good. Sat upstairs which is really a ring area around the main dining room. Tables up there are mostly 2 and 4 tops that seem to be used more for couples, but main floor had a couple of big tables as well that had families or groups at them and all seemed to enjoy.
