Wow! Thank you all so much for a fantastic evening! Went here for a date and did the 10 course tasting menu. OMG we were SO FULL by the end of it, couldn't believe it! Everything was delicious and the service was absolutely spectacular. Also, your staff knows how to DRESS! Everyone looked fabulous and were super nice. Definitely will recommend this to my clients :)
The service, dining experience, and quality / uniqueness of the dishes we tasted were all 5 stars. Experiential dining at its finest. Our anniversary was incredible thanks to the culinary team at Al's Place!
This place wholeheartedly deserves 5 stars. One of the best if not the best restaurant experience in the Bay Area. That is saying A LOT. Totally memorable and unique combination of flavors. Simply outstanding. I cannot wait to go back!
Lives up to the hype!
We were in a hurry (sadly), but the waitstaff was extremely accommodating - our food came out quickly, and everything was delicious! They come up with lots of creative flavor and texture combinations, and we don't eat much meat so it's always nice to see a menu that doesn't make you feel like you're missing out!
Fantastic meal. Prix fixe with wine pairing was unbelievable.
This is our second time at AL's and the food, again, was amazing. We did the family style chef's tasting which is great quality and value. My only negative critique this time around was that we felt a bit rushed. We had an early reservation--5:30p--so I understand the need to move tables. But we were served all of our courses within an hour which seemed rapid. There were 3 of us at a small table, and servers kept putting plates on the corner of our table at my elbow as the previous course was still in the center. The first time we went, we were seated at the bar, and felt no rush and were able to enjoy the dining experience a bit more. I still really enjoy the restaurant and will be back, but would love to not feel so rushed!
Food was awesome but for a 1-star restaurant, I expect a bit more than just great food. We had to wait for our table outside (the restaurant is small) for 15 minutes past our reservation time. At the end of the night, we saw a dog in the restaurant, not a guide one but just a companion and I would say if you want to bring in a dog there are heated patio sitting for that, so kinda disappointed.
Excellent food, great service.
Absolutely amazing! One of the best dinners I've eaten all very long time. Great service, attentive But not overbearing. Exceedingly unique take on fresh, seasonal delicious food. There were 3 of us and we tried snacks, appetizers, salad, a side of tender, delicious meat and a killer dessert: a delectable pear tart with subtle flavors like nothing I've ever eaten. I live in Santa Cruz and if Al's place was here I would be eating there at least once a week! Don't miss. This spectacular restaurant!
We loved our first meal at Al’s Place! Had heard good things and were still impressed! The food was creative and delicious - we went for the sampler menu and it was so fun to try such a variety of things. The Asian pears with peanut sauce were a surprise delight. My boyfriend raved about the salad (and suffice to say he definitely leans carnivore!). The Thai style fish curry was delicious and we managed to still wolf down the chocolate brownie at the end. The wine list was great - the server was helpful in clarifying our choice, which we really enjoyed. The service overall was attentive but not overbearing. Highly recommend Al’s Place especially for a bit of a special occasion.
Too crammed. Food was great but felt like a sardine.
I order three dishes: the blistered eggplant, the burrata and the grits. They also served me radish with lemony butter on the house. The eggplant and the grits were outstanding, however, a little bit too salty for my taste.
The lemony butter was very interesting.
The burrata dish was not at all remarkable, which was a disappointment.
The service was excellent.
Excellent food. Service was too fast. Great wine pairing.
Amazing service, fantastic food, loved the music and ambiance. Definitely coming back
It is a great place for dinner, especially for special occasions. We prefered the family-style one. The serving sizes could be better, i personally found some of the appetizers really small for group of three. Other than that, everything was delicious. A brownie with peanut sauce was a bit too much chocolaty but i guess that's what most of the people go for :)
It sure if the food is worth the price.
The service was superb and the music was lively! The dressing on the salad was too salty which made the salad difficult to eat. The beef brisket tasted more like salty corned beef.
We had a birthday dinner for 6 - so had to do the family tasting menu. Food was delicious and fresh - interesting food pairings to make your taste buds dance - however, I can't say it was worth the $$$$. For the amt we paid - I felt as though the ambiance/table service/food should have been elevated.
Visited Al's Place on a Saturday evening to enjoy a nice dinner with the gals . The food was phenomenal, the service was on point, and the atmosphere was perfect. Considering that the kitchen was open to the dining room, you would think the noise would effect the dining experience but you barely noticed as their fun music playlist distracted you from any clanging of pans. The servers were knowledgeable and we never had to ask for anything. Our favorite dish that we ordered was the duck with the strawberry mole. The meat was cooked to perfection with the fat crisped to add some texture. The mole pairing was innovative. We loved every part of our visit and we can't to come back!
Perfect. Everything was exactly what we wanted to celebrate our special day. The spot for an intimate date night. Go there, do Family style!
Interior design is flawless. I dined on the patio my first time, which was perfect on a warm evening! But the inside has its own charm.
Loved the music too - it was spicy! 🌶
We were very pleasantly impressed by how good the food and service were. Definitely will go back soon.
It was very warm inside. Would be nice to have AC on hot days!
One of the best dinners I’ve had in the city! Each dish made you stop and think about the flavor it was so good. The trout and potatoes might be number one but each dish was easily competing for the crown. Great ambience and impressively fast service that is very worth mentioning. Wonderful experience overall thank you.
Food was good, creative. Service was fantastic. I arrived early but my friend was delayed. They asked me to wait until he arrived which I was doing. After about 10 after my reservation time, the receptionist let me know that she could seat me but they needed the table by a certain time. I felt that was totally fair and I appreciated it. The server was great in explaining the menu and making some great recommendations. Everyone was very nice and helpful. It’s a hassle to get a table there, but I would go back if that part were easier. It’s definitely a place you have to plan to go to - you can’t just go on the spur of the moment.
Wow - best food and best service I have had in SF in ages. Amazingly well put together meal (chef's choice) with impeccable service and awesome ambiance / music. Loved the food, loved the vibe. It is LOUD.
We had a really lovely dinner at Al’s Place. Everyone who works there was welcoming, kind, and professional. The food is absolutely amazing! It would be nice if they had a couple less expensive bottles of wine.
The service was impeccable, each plate was treated with care & consideration, and the cocktails were outstanding! The most accurate way of articulating my delight would be to say that i now feel like a better person for having experienced this culinary treat!
Loved the food and the environment. It’s not often I focus on the music at a restaurant but the music at Al’s was just way too loud and aggressive. It was a bit distracting. Overall, it was a great experience, though. Excellent meal.
The food was incredible and the flavours of every single dish we tried were out of this world. A real great find, with great service, ambience and atmosphere. Sat outside and even though it was a cold night, it was warm and cosy under the heaters. Anyone visiting San Francisco should definitely dine here. Thanks so much for an awesome meal :)
The Emperors new clothes. Super hip and on trend but poor lazy cooking masquerading as fine dining. A complete rip off. The server was nice and very efficient and the wine was good but the food was terrible. A certain arrogance and complacency about this place.
The food was incredible, delicious, mostly melt-in-your-mouth, with unique flavors. The whole trout was not our favorite but everything else was outstanding. Loved the service and wine. However, the ambiance could have been the same with the volume of the music lowered.
Amazing food and great ambience ! The service was great, and I can't wait to come back!
Incredible food, excellent service (except they forgot to give me my take-out food).
Every dish was amazing, but the curry was superb!
Great food......horrible loud swearing rap music and flies all over the place....probably won’t go back
The food and service were as fantastic as I remembered.
All four cold dishes were delicious but cold fried potatoes in the trout salad was a bit dry. The eggplant and sweet potato dish was outstanding. The white bean stew wasn’t a stew but a soup. Nevertheless, it was soooo tasty and we really enjoyed it.
The blueberry tart with lemon curd and lavender ice cream was very refreshing.
My daughter and I throughly enjoyed our time at your restaurant.
Will be back when I come back to San Francisco for sure.
Thanks, Al’s team!!
The service was excellent
Food was very good
The room is a long narrow space with 6 loud speakers BLASTING music- making talking or enjoying impossible!
Overpriced and pretentious
