Authentic old school Chicago. Salad bar was unbelievable. No fast food here!!!
Great food, great time, at a great price!
I been to several different Italian joints throughout chicagoland area and this one has fulfilled all my expectations. The meal portions are large and the quality of the food excellent! I usually dine in 1-2 times month and do carry out twice a month. The bar area is good, several tvs and best of all affordable drinking specials. Check it out for yourself and you never will go back to olive garden.
I really enjoyed the pizza there and it happens to be half off on Monday's so even better. Besides the price the quality of the Pizza and taste is to die for. I will definitely return asap and again with the entire family. #1 Pizza place in my eyes.
our intitial reservation was for 16 but it grew to 24. they were very accomadating even though our party started to get larger. they recommended an italian beer when their tappers took a powder. excellent choice. we would return every chance we get. party on!!!!
Had a great time celebrating my sisters birthday. Our server was charming and helpful, and made it a fun luncheon. This place is an old family favorite for many years.
Very good food, but as always the kitchen was very slow. Each time I eat there, the waitress makes excuses for how long the main courses take to be served--usually they apologize more than once. Worse, they have a new policy of charging $20. when you bring a cake with you. They waived it this time, but if they keep that charge, I will gave to find another special occasion place. A very, very poor idea which will anger folks like me on a budget.
I really wanted to like this restaurant . . . several issues, though. Our two Italian margaritas were different, one very sweet, one very sour. When we told the waitress, she merely shrugged. We ordered off the special Valentine's Day menu (included 2 appetizers, 2 salads, 2 entrees, one dessert); what a mistake! Waitress brought the salads first and tried to say she didn't know what the kitchen was doing. Then, immediately brought the appetizers. While we were attempting to work through those, she brought the meals. So we had all food on the table at once. Food was so-so, one of the dishes with "Clams" had only one clam on top. Same with a dish that had lobster, just one tiny tale on the side. Tables were crammed together and so noisy!
Al's is a classic Italian restaurant that has been around for over 40 years. To be in business that long they must be doing something right. They have a large menu with which to choose Pasta, chicken, seafood , pizza and more. The restaurant has been redone in the past year to bring a more modern feel yet still retain it"s old school charm. The wait staff has a few longtime employees who are top notch and are supplemented by younger staff . The food is very consistent and the portions are generous. This is a great neighborhood place and many who use to live in the Berwyn / Cicero area come back to visit Al' s.
It was my first time At Al's, I loved it and I have told all my friends so we are planning a girls nite out... Great Place to eat and have a few drink.. the killer Martini awesome :~)))
Had a new waitress that wasn't familiar with the menu but very nice and apologetic-Co-workers were very helpful to her. The ambiance was magnificent -dark but romantic. Plcs of Italians adorned the wall and with the Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald music piping out made for a wonderful old world experience. the bread arrived cold w/cold butter-but good!I I chose instead an entree garden salad and it arrived cold, crisp and fresh. They allow an add on of an 8-10 oz lobster tail with an entree and it was very tasty. My choice of the shrimp scampi was not good-made with capers and a thin and runny, tasteless sauce made me yearn for a garlicky scampi. I left disappointed. A glass of very good Lambrusco totaled $35.00 so overall, it wasn't pricey.
Great food and great service. The restaurant was quieter than a normal Friday night due to the ongoing Cicero / Berwyn Houby Festival that was going on outside.
Excellent tAsting food. Service very slow. Few diners but noise level was loud. Great cocktails!
