Food was great, service was slow. We ordered beers that we never got. Our waiter blamed everything on the kitchen.

Some of the old was missed but not enough to ruin our anual Alpenglow experience. We all enjoyed our meal and wine and our service and especially our time at the top of the mountain. I guess some people like the old stuffy feel, we like our time together. To each his own.
Bowl of soup was $21. It was more like a cup of soup. $23 burger came with no sides. Quality of food good, but not worth the price. Service was only so so as the server never once came to check how things were and if we liked our food. Never brought or asked if we wanted ground pepper on soup or salad. Had to ask for ketchup with burger. Espresso machine broken. No black tea available. This used to be a special place for lunch, now it’s not special and not worth the price.
Great ambience, food and service for our group of 12. Gondola rides from River Run Village are very scenic and fun.
Our Waiter of the evening was James. He welcomed us promptly and took us on a journey through the menu, highlighting his personal favorites and even suggesting wines to be paired! The entire staff really made our memory even more memorable! Will definitely visit again!
So disappointing! “Corporate” really bungled this change! We have been coming here for years and it was such an amazing special place. Gone are the heated slippers, white tablecloths, chef’s tasting menu printed on “real paper”, bread service and the 5 star food. The butternut squash soup was tasteless, the beet salad had only two beets w scarcely any dressing and the desserts were mediocre at best. The wait staff was incredible but we felt sorry for them as they kept having to explain to their long time clientele “what happened” to the Stube experience! We have recommended the Stube to numerous people, but no more.
I have been to Alpenglow Stube many times in the past. It use to be my favorite place in Keystone.
This visit was a great disappointment for me and my friends though. They have change the layout, the menu and service. It has nothing to do with previous concept. Now it is an overpriced cafeteria with cafeteria service, but 5 star prices. I would not recommend it to anyone.

We can always count on fantastic service and creative and deliciously prepared shared plates and entrees and this meal was, without a doubt, one of the best! We shared the Wild Boar and Filet Mignon and each was impeccable, following the to die for octopus and brussel sprouts. The evening was topped of with a fantastic 2010 Tuscany red blend and the best service through out the evening!
Went there for Sunday brunch. It was excellent. From the moment you walk in you are taken care of with great service, creative and flavorful food and a wonderful Bloody Mary bar. Not to mention the surrounding beauty. Highly recommend this dining experience.
My wife and I have been coming here for years and have referred many friends as well. I’ve also entertained many clients here for lunches and dinners. The Sunday brunch was always amazing. To dine on crab claws and shrimp at 11,000+ feet was a grandiose experience, something we looked forward to for many weekends over the ski season.
Unfortunately, that experience is no more, along with many other things that are degrading the experience.
I can understand changes a restaurant makes to keep up with the times. However, if you’re going to lessen the fine dining Europeanesque Michelin-rated experience and 86 the white tablecloths, warm bread, and 3 course menus in exchange for casual style dining, then you must reflect that in your menu prices. You also must update your menu prices on Opentable bc many aren’t reflective of the actual prices on the in-house menus.
And I’m sorry but $19 for a small martini (including a $6 upcharge) is ridiculous. A small plus, but Alpenglow used to have bleu cheese in house and the bartender would add some bleu cheese stuffed olives for a kicka$ dirty martini. Sorry, there is no more bleu cheese in-house going forward, so if you like bleu cheese, stay off this peak.
And unless you’re gonna have an in-house DJ, please tone down the kitchen stereo and put some good music on in the dining area or get a guitar musician.
Fortunately, our server was great serving us on our date and explaining the depressing changes. And the water pitchers on the table were cool, too.
Unfortunately, after our $240 “casual” dinner, we won’t be coming back unless some improvements are made. BTW, we just cancelled our next 2 Alpenglow reservations... 😢
Place was great. The only reason I say 4 is because I have been to a decent amount of fine dining and have had better food for the same price. Like Shanahans in denver. Overall I was still a big fan and would definitely reccomend.
The Alpenglow has changed!! After years of praising the Stube as the most amazing dining experience...They are now looking for a more “casual” dining experience so they have downgraded service and the menu, but the prices stayed the same. Now just seems like an overpriced restaurant.
There new menu, revamped interior, service and ambiance was lack luster. Used to be somewhere special on the mountain. Pitty

The food last January and the experience was extremely better!!!! I definitely think the restaurant has down graded since vail restores made changes which is a disappointment.
After enjoying an upscale, comfy, cozy place for lunch for years, where your ski jacket and boots were taken as you entered and warm slippers offered, we were very disappointed to find that Alpenglow Stube had changed to a more casual dining experience at a very high price. The food was OK, but not worth the cost. The $28 "seafood chowder" was more like a potato soup. Only a couple of pieces of seafood in our bowls. We had to ask for slippers. Servers wore jeans. I doubt we will go back for lunch again, but may try the Sunday brunch. Hopefully, they have not destroyed that experience.
Wow, what a downgrade. Food was not impressive, yet they still charge the same high prices. Same menu for lunch and dinner. Tables were dirty, no longer have table cloths or drapery. Restaurant was half filled and they didn't have enough slippers to go around. Went for an anniversary lunch, which was acknowledged upon checkin, but not at our table. Having been many times before, this was just a surprisingly poor experience. It's nothing special anymore. Too bad.
Had dinner here immediately after getting engaged. The food was excellent and the staff was extraordinarily courteous (they really made it a special experience). Would recommend to anyone!
We went for lunch and it was fabulous! The service was fantastic! She knew ever bit of information about everything on the menu including ingredients and ounces. We had a few small plates and shared an entree based on her recommendations. It was amazing!
We dined at Alpenglow Stube for my wife’s birthday. The gondola ride to North Peak was chilly, but we expected that and the staff provided blankets for the ride. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced, which was unexpected due to the mountain top location.
Alpenglow Stube has lost the magic that kept us coming back for special occasions. Though the prices are still consistent with mountain top magical dining, the charm and exceptional food have been replaced by plastic menus, red checked napkins and “shoe string fries.” The service was wonderful, but that was the only remanent of the Alpenglow we knew and loved. After dinner, we visited the web site to see if we’d missed a significant announcement that might have prepared us and/or saved us a visit. The “four diamond” claim, and the images of the fine dining tables draped in white linens remain, but we noticed the subtle tag line change, “mountain hangout with European flare.” It felt very cafeteria-chalet.
What a disappointment. This was our second time to the restaurant and our first experience was phenomenal (2015), back then the food was amazing but the service was even better- he went above and beyond to make our anniversary special. This time when we walked in, we immediately knew something had changed. The napkins were red checkerboard (like a picnic tablecloth) and there was no linen on the tables. It was very loud and full of families (nothing against kids what-so-ever, we have 2, but this used to be more of a date night/romance atmosphere). The first time we had customized menus with our name printed on them and this time we were handed a plastic menu and after all of our impressions, we were surprised to see that the items on the menu were still very high dollar. Our waiter didn’t seem to care about helping us and ignored my husband a few times when he tried to flag him down for a drink- he also never asked if we were celebrating anything (even though we had put it on our reservation that this was our 10 year anniversary). My husbands food looked decent when it came out but I had ordered the prawns that were supposed to be served over pappardelle. When it arrived it was just fried jumbo shrimp served over fettuccine that was obviously store bought and I couldn’t even eat the shrimp because it tasted cold in the middle. The only thing decent about the meal was the Brussel sprout appetizer. Long story short, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Just last year my in-laws went off our recommendation and even then they still had good service/food and they printed their names on the menu and offered slippers at check in.
Please think twice before spending a pretty penny on a meal from here. It’s really not worth the trip all the way up the mountain.
We were unaware of the recent changes to the Stube menu and system. While our server Jeff was awesome and very knowledgeable about wine, the meal was terrible. Food was overpriced and mediocre. I could not eat my entree of shrimp and pasta. Shrimp was fried, but it was not described in the menu that way. The only redeeming thing was dessert. Ambiance was odd- red and white checked cloth napkins did not work with the decor. Service was ok- but water glasses were left empty and the general appearance of the restaurant was messy and not in line with the high prices. Bathroom was not maintained. We will not be back.
We were at the restaurant 4 years ago and yes the menu has changed but it still had the same ambiance as before ...we were not offered slippers as we had been 4 years ago but when asked if they no longer did that they said no we still do and those who wore them loved it!! We arrived early and enjoyed some of the specialty cocktails. Food was good only small complaint would have been the portion size for the ravioli , two teenage boys and 3 raviolis each just wasn't going to cut it, but for the average adult it was fine. I do think they should bring back bread before the meals , this type of restaurant it should be a staple. Overall we will come back again a great end to our yearly ski trip!!
Poor, can not be said enough. The most expensive horable food I have ever had. Nice place for a gondola ride but not for food. They should shut this place down, they give Keystone resort a bad name. Can’t believe that management lets this place to operate the way they do. Staff is nice but they have a terrible product. I would be embarrassed to service here. I have been in the food business, and this place should close !!!!!!!!
Unique experience and the food and service is high level. It’s worth the freezing gondola ride. We saw a marriage proposal and the whole place applauded. The rotisserie chicken salad was not great. All the rest wonderful. Order the tempura vegetables and the duck fat Brussels sprouts.
I've been coming here for years. My first issue is that I had to ask for slippers and coach check when I entered. In the past the greeters were ready and waiting to get your boots, jackets, helmets, etc and ask you your slipper size. I shouldn't have to ask for this service. The bar experience and service before lunch was excellent. That's where it went down hill. The lunch service was terrible. Long waits for our beer and wine. The waiter rarely came around. They no longer serve bread so you're forced to wait a long time before getting anything in your system (remember we are at a ski resort). This is no longer the great experience that it used to be! When I'm spending a couple of hundred dollars for lunch I expect it to be great! I left feeling like I got ripped off and very dissatisfied. The location is great but the rest of it is no longer what it used to be!
Very, very disappointed in the overall experience... Given what we spent for the evening here, I can't say I'll ever come back without some major changes to the menu and rave reviews from notable sources on preparation of the food. I made the mistake of reading reviews just before making my way to the restaurant, full of similar disappointment as well. I wish I had done more research before making a reservation.
I have great memories of coming here when I was younger with my family. Fast forward to 2018, the food we had was just okay, and in no way worth the money. On a positive note, the pork belly and brussel sprouts were well executed. The $50 lamb shank special we ordered arrived cold in the center, which at this point in history and for the pedigree this restaurant proclaims is truly unacceptable. The small cup of $30 bison/venison chili special was laughably devoid of meat or value - more biscuit and beans than anything. Though near the fireplace, we were closer to the kitchen than anything and could hear the beats from the kitchen radio...
The restaurant no longer provides the high-end European bistro intrigue I remember. Gone is the tasting menu, which made ordering easy and dependable in the past. Overall, the menu itself was very tired, lacking inspiration or flare. For $300, I'll visit a true five star restaurant in the future. I'll blame the greed and major watering down forced by Vail Resorts for screwing up the success this place once had.
As a side note...please update your website with more general information on what guests can expect on getting there. Had I not known exactly where to go as a local, I'd need to call, since such easy instructions were not provided on the internet. Pro-tip - flatlanders might really think taking a complimentary gondola ride up to 11k+ ft with a cozy blanket to a prestigious mountain chalet is pretty sweet. Maybe put in some effort on the marketing of that major feature?!
Our family of 4 had been to Alpenglow Stube several years ago and the things that matter have not changed. The gondola rides with blankets in the dark, the warm, cozy and inviting atmosphere, good food prepared and presented well, and very attentive service. Every restaurant must update occasionally to stay relevant. This outing cost us about $180 LESS than the old restaurant did and our sons are now adults. The portions were perfect on both the shared and individual plates. All of the food was creative and delicious. I recommend the Shishito peppers, pork belly, wild boar, halibut, creme brulee and the peanut butter pie. If you expect the old restaurant, you will be disappointed. If you are open-minded to new experiences, you will be glad you went. The only think I can begin to complain about is the napkins - red and white checkered belongs in an Italian restaurant or a diner, but who cares?
Not crowded which surprised me. Food was great but desserts needed to be explained better. If you advertise tiramisu but don’t serve it the traditional way you need to explain that. It was vanilla pudding in a cup with cinnamon in top. Not flavorful at all.
Menu is a little different layout so have server explain the sharables. Bacon flight was a fun starter.
This was our families third time to eat up here. We always enjoy the experience of riding the gondola to the amazing restaurant. We were a little disappointed with the food this time; it just wasn't the same quality as we have experienced in the past and wasn't worth the price. Order the rabbit but skip the octopus. Shrimp was ok but pasta undercooked.
Also, I had requested a window table and when we arrived we were seated away from the window. There was one empty so I asked if we could sit there and was told none our available. No one was ever sat there the entire 1.5 hours we were there.
We often dine at the Alpenglow. We were told their dining formula has changed and we were hesitant to revisit. We booked a lunch reservation. We were greeted very warmly . The staff was very friendly . We noticed a change on the bar as warm drinks upon arrival used to be complementary before .
No bread served before the meal, no amuse bouche.
We tried a bunch of what they call sharables. They are not really sharables except for the fries and the tempura vegetables( 3 bites is not exactly sharable). Then we tried a salad and some LARGE plates( 4 small pieces of the boar tenderloin).We had to order extra fries as the large dishes were too small for skiers.We did not skip the dessert.
In all the food is fabulous but extremely overpriced. 23 dollars for a burger , 34 dollars for 4 bites of boar
tenderloin; no sides what so ever with the food. We were told they don’t want to be labeled as fancy dining but their prices say the opposite.
They need to revisit their concept or they will lose their customers.

Charlie was excellent, the staff was great. We were able to check our ski boots and lunch and put slippers on. Food was outstanding. A little pricey but it costs a lot to get it to this remote mountain top. 5 star.

Food was great but slightly pricey and they we out of a few things which is to be expected since it’s at the peak of the moutain. They menu is new so I think a lot of the previous reviews are from people who have been there many times before but this was our first time. Overall, the food was yummy! Charles was our waiter for lunch and dinner and he was phenomenal! Service was great from the bartender and everyone else there as well. The hostess checked our coats and gave us slippers to change out of our ski boots during lunch!
