although we have eaten here several times, this time the food was not up to par. I asked for the pizza to be light on the cheese and it came light (almost none)on the sauce with regular amount of cheese and an order of fries came under cooked.
The food was terrible. It was the worst Mexican food I've had in a long time. There were a lot of people there, but they all seemed to be ordering burgers.
You had to walk in past their mini-liquor store. I thought I had accidentally walked into a convenience store.
I sat facing the kitchen (it was not a lovely view).
I was not impressed. I will not be going back.
I made reservations with no problem for my two adult kids and myself. I was my birthday so I thought this would be a fun place,.It was fun but the dinner I got was awful. Steak burritos where there was no steak just some gound up, over cooked, shredded something.... Nachos were great drinks very good. I wish you would go back to Mexican only and improve on that.Too much rice and refried beans in the burrito also. Put that on the side please.
Fabulous hidden gem! Energetic, vibrant, great ambiance. The enchiladas are legendary.
Although I have been going to Alonso's for decades, in recent years this restaurant has definitely hit the skids. On the night we visited, the 2 of us ordered only 2 things: one chopped salad and one Alonso burger. We waited FORTY minutes from the time we ordered before any food came to our table - and that was only after we had complained. When it came, the waitress slung the salad on the table (which was my husband's entire dinner), saying "The burger's not ready yet - you can share the salad." Um, no. When I asked what was taking so long to cook a mere burger her reply was "I wouldn't know, ma'am - I'm only the server." Thereafter she developed server tunnel vision and staunchly marched past our table without making eye contact.
A great restaurant with great food. Always a pleasure to dine there.
Alonso's is always a good choice for a quick dinner with friends. Close to Loyola as well as Hopkins, it provides both a young feel but a neighborhood friendly place for the rest of us. Always consistently good to above average food.
Although the restaurant was not at all crowded, and we were only a party of 4, my dinner (beef tacos) was no longer hot when it arrived. Both the tacos and the beans seemed gloppy and unappealing. Also the crust on the peach pie was thick and heavy.
The dinner was disappointing enough that I would think twice about going back.
There is a new vibe at Alonsos/Loco Hombre and we like it! Service was ON POINT, the food was hot, flavorful and well timed and the desserts are made by Cassandra's Cakes (homey and fresh). HUGE portion of mussels in a broth that I wanted to drink (but was thankful for the toast points provided), smokey black bean soup and BISON burgers, which they now offer in one pound or 8 ounce. Also very lovely was a side salad instead of fries with the burger---dressing was pooled at bottom of bowl with mixed greens on top allowing us to mix at the table. NIce touch.
We ordered nachos and quesdillas and our food was burnt when it was brought out. We sent it back, and the second time around the quesdillas were still burnt. Our waitress was rude. I am a person that typically likes hot weather, but it was too hot in there even for me. We asked the waitress if the air could be turned on, and we were met w/ a rude reply. I don't typically like to sweat while I'm eating my meals.
kitchen was short and it took forever to receive our food, beer kegs were out and the restaurant was HOT! food was delish though!
The food was very good and reasonably priced. The menu was diverse enough to suit different tastes. The service was very nice.
The only problem we had was how Open Table handles the reservation. In Open Table there is no distinction between Alonzo's and Loco Hombre. If you don't specify in the comments, you may get the wrong restaurant. We did but enjoyed our meal anyway and they were good enough to honor our coupon even though it was for the sister restaurant.
We had a wonderful experience at Loco Hombre following our daughter's graduation at the Cathedral. We did not arrive until 9:00 P.M. and Loco Hombre's menu was perfect for that time of night. Our waitress was efficient and attentive to us and identified our immediate need for food and drink.
The food was a bit overpriced for its actual quality.
Great neighborhood style resturant. Great hand cut fries. Will return for their famous burgers.
The brunch buffet was uninspiring. The omelet bar lacked egg-whites, mushrooms, and cheese options. The meats were out for far too long and were chewy. The variety was limited and there were not many lunch-brunch options. The dessert options were terrific, but I would have preferred better quality food and more choices. I was in Baltimore unexpectedly on Mother's Day and was initially surprised to find that they had a table available - actually several tables. I now know why.
They had a full one-pound burger (!) on special the night we were there. Cooked exactly as we asked and it was good. Service was spot on and we never had to hunt her down. It's more of a sports-bar/neighborhood thing.
Food was good- fresh, richly flavored hamburgers, nice salads. Very slow kitchen- took nearly an hour to get burgers and salad
Burger is one of the best in Baltimore!
We made reservations on line but when we got there we were told they dont take reservations
Everyone at our table of 14 ordered different meals yet came to the same conclusion: the food lacks flavor. The restaurant serves mostly as a bar and hardly passes muster as a restaurant. Alonso's is remniscent of a highway stop on the New Jersey Turnpike - not a good thing. The wait staff seemed needlessly rude when they actually stopped by the table; a blonde woman with an horrific dye job was the worst of all. Not fit for foodies. Not good for groups.
Our experience here was terrific. The food was great and the service friendly and efficient. It was my fiance's birthday and we made reservations for 3. Then my daughter's friends came for the weekend and at the last minute we had to change to 6. They werer very accomadating, and with all the extra's the girls asked for the waitress was extremely pleasant.
We very much enjoyed our visit to Loco Hombre. LJ was a great server and offered several suggestions regarding the menu and beverages. The pace in which our dishes arrived was perfect.
I have not to Alonso's for many years. As new restaurants open, we seem to forget about the older ones. However, my friend suggested Alonso's because she wanted a hamburger. She said she was looking at the City Paper and noticed the ad for Alonso's. I thought that was an excellent idea because they had tv's to wait college basketball and a great dinner menu in case someone in our party didn't want a hamburger. My boyfriend is not from this area so this was his first time. The four of us ordered hamburgers and they were just as excellent as I can remember. I loved the atmosphere and this time I am not going to wait so long to return.
This restaurant has an amzing food!!! Way to go Chefs! Went there for lunch and had very tasty and upscale Mexican food. Booths are very comfortable too!!
