About Almayass

We are proud to introduce a distinguished culinary experience to the refined palates of New York City with the infusion of authentic Lebanese cuisine and the exotic flavors of traditional Armenian dishes.

The story of Almayass began in Beirut in 1996 by the Alexandrian family, third generation Armenians, who had a passion to share and serve their culinary delights. Ever since, the restaurant has come to the attention of The New York Times, New York Magazine, Food & Wine Magazine, Los Angeles Times and many other international publications as a ‘must go’ destination for an Armenian-Lebanese dining experience. In recent years, Almayass has expanded in the Middle East with locations in Riyadh, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait City, Doha at The Pearl and Dubai, Downtown.

Our inviting location in New York City’s bustling Flatiron district boasts a large dining room as well as a separate bar and lounge area. Reservations are highly recommended.

We love Armenian food and we were delighted to find this gem. The food is very authentic. The salads are Very fresh. The Tabbouli was fantastic. The Basterma was very tasty. The Armenian Kafka was a discovery. The Soujouk flambé is a must. At the end of the meal, we had the superb Maamul with cheese( order ahead of time since it takes a while to cook it).
Pair your desert with some Armenian coffee. The service is impeccable . Will come back when in NYC.

The food was good. The waitstaff friendly and informative. The meals were served in a timly manner. Altogether, I was very satisfied with everything except that it took very long to get change. That might just have been a glitch.

As an Armenian, finding authentic, GOOD Armenian food is almost impossible outside my family's dinner tables. Almayass is spot on with nearly everything we ate, and I was channeling my grandmother the entire time. The dolma was delicious, though I normally don't use eggplant because it tends to be too soft. The tabouli was excellent without too much bulgur wheat. The Armenian salad was also refreshing, a little heavy on the dressing on both but the taste was spot on. For me, the star of the show was the mantee (we call it manta). There is a very unique, specific taste to good mantee. Having spent hours on a Sunday with my granny and great aunt stuffing tiny boats until we ran out of pans. Oh how I miss those days - and this brought all of it back. Almayass mantee truly delivers, even served dry in a small skillet. The madzoon (yogurt) sauce was perfect, and the taste brought back my childhood in spades. The meats were to. die. for. I don't know what they do, but the lamb melted in my mouth like it was butter. The chicken blew away my 16 year old picky son, and he asked how come I didn't cook like that? (Uh, good question.) The only let down was the rice pilaf. Too dry, not enough butter. But, a small price to pay for an otherwise excellent meal. Dessert was baklava bites, yummy without the syrup which tends to get too sweet for me. It's served on the side, making it easy to adjust to taste. We tried the tiny candied eggplant, which is better left on the menu that on your plate. The coffee was perfect, and the service was above and beyond. Friendly, attentive, lovely people. The place is absolutely beautiful and the warm colors make it somewhere you want to stay, and return to often. At the prices (about $280 with tax, tip for 3 of us), it may be only once or twice in a lifetime, but worth it. Granny would be happy.

This was our second visit. First was a large group for a birthday. Second time was more intimate with 3 of us catching up. The space is great. Staff very friendly. Happy hour in the bar is a great way to meet, or start the evening. I have found the food good and consistent. On our second visit, I would have liked a sommelier or manager to help navigate the wines from the Armenian/ Lebanese areas. I did not notice any management presence during our dinner. Some of the appetizer prices seemed a little high when contrasted with the entrees. A lively room, with a later starting dinner crowd.

We loved the food at Almayass. Our helpful waiter made suggestions about what to order and we took almost all of them and they were great. Would definitely go here again.

I had high expectations given everyone’s review. This was mediocre at the very best! The Bronzino was very fishy and deserved to be sent back. The chicken entree was flavorful but dry served with awful fries and cold carrots. Our waiter made no effort to improve upon the situation. With so many great restaurants in NYC, it made me sad that we wasted money and time on this place.

FOLLOW UP: After publishing my review, I received a call within 24 hours from the owner, Mario, who apologized profusely for the experience we had. I am pleased to say we will give this place another chance. I am impressed with Mario’s integrity and It would make me so happy to report back that our Christmas experience was a fluke. Stand-by!

I landed at the restaurant accidentally :). Labeled as Mediterranean... silly me, I was expecting more of an Italian, spanish setting. I was pleased with the surprise of being confronted with a middle eastern menu. Excellent service and well executed dishes. Worth the visit

I brought my boyfriend here for his birthday. The appeal was the authenticity of its Lebanese-Armenian cuisine, and was positively confirmed by my boyfriend who is of that descent. The service was attentive and thoughtful, without being overbearing. They had a respectable wine list, featuring Armenian wine, which was surprising and something we'd never seen before. The kitchen was a little slow as the place filled, but what came out was extremely tasty, well cooked and overall a good eating experience. He had a chicken dish and I had the fish; both were hearty, perfectly cooked temperature-wise and balanced flavors. My only issue was when packing up the extras to go, they forgot to pack one of the items that was at our table.

Extremely poor service. One entree took over an hour to be served. Food was good, not great.
Very noisy. Waiters were inattentive. Perhaps they are lacking sufficient staff to handle holiday crowds.

Very nice restaurant for low-key Lebanese meal - good for large groups. Branzino, Cod, and Mixed Grill were great. Wish they didn't charge for small things like garlic whip and pomegranate molasses, which are common table items at other Lebanese restaurants.

Excellent Middle Eastern food with many authentic specialities; portions could be shared so this a great place for family style dining. I particularly recommend lamb dishes.
Very friendly and attentive service; there is reasonable space between tables so you could enjoy a quiet conversation with people at your table.
