Alma de cuba was wonderful. The ambiance intimate. The food was amazing! We got the appetizer sampler, a little pricey for what it is...but because it was delicious it's worth it. I ordered the vaca frita and my husband got the short ribs dish. Our waitress was knowledgeable about the dishes and was more than happy to explain anything we were unsure of. Definitely will go again!

First, the restaurant is too dark to read the menu. However, the real problem was the food. It is never cooked properly. I have had two prior meals there that were under cooked. This visit, the food was overcooked. The steak was burned and dry. My wife's chicken dish was flavorless. I should say that the appetizers were delicious. Although this is a "Cuban" restaurant, its more American than Cuban. I will not be going back.

Wonderful experience at Alma De Cuba. Ambience is very nice and a little heady. Our server was knowledgable, friendly and accommodating. We started with the Alma appetizer sampler for two, which includes smoked wahoo tacos, royal palm dates, crab empanadas - if you're a visitor to Philadelphia and not able to return anytime soon, this showcases the food and isn't overwhelming or too much food as each element is a couple bites. My husband had the Sugar Cane Tuna, which was just perfect, seared medium rare with a spicy salad (and served on sugar cane spears!). My short rib was also delicious, although would have preferred it spicier served bone in, but that is personal preference. Enjoying one of their cocktails before dinner is worth it - they are creative and refreshing.

We really enjoyed our drinks at happy hour, then our delicious dinner.
Our server was very nice.
However, our dinners came out so fast, we were finished and gone in under an hour.
For this cost, we really expected to dine a little more leisurely.
We had been to this restaurant long ago, maybe 10 or 15 years.
We had a similar experience then - great food, good service, in and out in a flash.

Service was so fast and food was delicious. We had the chicken imperial and churrasco. My husband raves about his steak. The portions were perfect and for dessert we had the Cuban coffee and cafe Havana which was also delicious. I would go back

I have eaten at Alma De Cuba several times and it has never disappointed me. The food is outstanding. I highly recommend ordering three or four appetizers to be shared (the empanadas and the croquetas de pollo are delicious!!) and, depending on how many in your party, get one or two of the entres, also to share. The food is so good, you can’t go wrong with anything you order! And, of course, a mojito is a must! Dress nicely if you’re planning on eating at Alma. I love the ambiance and the service is excellent!

Excellent restaurant. Had a nice table by the window for a birthday dinner. Waitress was very helpful with suggestions for drinks which were awesome. Appetizer of their guacamole with banana chips was excellent. We really enjoyed our entrees. The restaurant brought a nice birthday surprise for desert. I would happily go to Alma de Cuba again.

I’ve been to Alma several times and often get the Vaca Frita. This time the flavors were off. The black beans were very salty and the escabeche was very vinegary, too much for sure. The yuca and appetizers were great. The Ropa Vieja was very good. Other than the Vaca Frita, the flavors were good but the price you pay for this food it a bit over the top. Alma has lost a little of its pizazz and I think I’ll stick to happy hour and late night drinks here. The restaurant did give a coffee and tea for free for the disappointing Vaca and that was appreciated.

We wanted to enjoy the happy hour specials, as we were seated basically in the lounge right next to the bar. However, since we made an online reservation we were not able to partake in the happy hour deals, even though the table right next to us had the happy hour menu! I wanted a pitcher of sangria, which for happy hour was $18 but I would have had to pay $35. What a rip off! Other than not offering happy hour to people who make reservations, the place was fine.

This was my second visit to Alma de Cuba, the first being about a year ago. The food was consistently delicious both times - fresh and imaginative. Service was attentive and the ambient relaxing. Highly recommend the oxtail bone marrow croquet appetizer and tostones side dish. My only criticism is that I found my otherwise excellent Arroz entree (shellfish mix) too salty. My dining partner had the lechon and that was excellent too.

The first floor is a small lounge area where you can get drinks and I think you can order food. The tables are really low and the ambiance is nice. Upstairs (there are 3 floors!) is the dining area with the bigger tables. They have a bunch of different mojitos and flavors. We had the ceviche tasting which was amazing (salmon, yellowtail and the rainbow). The guacamole is served with banana chips which is different. The table bread comes with an amazing dipping sauce. Entrees were great and dessert is a must. The chocolate cigar presentation was awesome! Tres leche was fantastic. I would definitely recommend and come back.

To whom it may concern, At: Alma De Cuba. y visit to the restaurant on our 29th wedding anniversary was very disappointing. I had stated in notes , about my being disabled and using a walker but nothing was mentioned about no accessibility and no valet service. In the past I do remember that,Alma De Cuba, had valet service. Not knowing this we arrived at the restaurant, with much traffic in the city, and needed to get out of our car with flashing lights. I walked over with my walker to the restaurant door open and suddenly realized that there were stairs. Several customers felt very badly that I needed help to come up the stairs I told them that I would not come up at this point because there was no valet service which is confirmed by your maître d'. My wife drove us about three blocks away to park. We then had to walk not only the three blocks to get to the restaurant but back to the car.. This was already a problem. I then needed to climb about eight steps to the restaurant floor itself. As we arrived everyone was very pleasant and brought us to a table. We were quite concerned that there was a lot of yelling and screaming and carrying on from a party of young ladies that were having a cocktail hour. They were very loud and will bring noisy and were very drunk. I was about ready to complain to the waiter when I realized that they were leaving the area and apparently went upstairs for the dinner. Despite this noise the overall noise level in the restaurant was very high I didn't even realize that there was music playing until my wife mentioned something after she returned from the bathroom. We could barely speak to each.,

This experience was very unsettling as I been to Cuba Libre several times and despite the time of year, {even at New Year's eve.}- I was able to hear the music and speak to my wife and family. Gven your reputation,we were very surprised to find and have this experience. we will not recommend this restaurant .

I was expecting it to be amazing based on the recommendations from others but was very disappointed. Our waiter immediately judged us for being on the younger side and it was terrible service. He never checked in on us and brought us the wrong food and the wrong drinks without apologizing. He took it off our table as if we ordered incorrectly. Then when we got our correct food, it was cold. It was also my brothers birthday and i asked if they could put a candle in our dessert and the waiter never made note of it so it also took away from his night. Our waiter ignored us for most of the night until we asked for the check and then he stayed close to the table until we paid. Overall, I was very disappointed because I had been recommended this restaurant several times. I wish I could come back and have a better experience gaurenteed.

Alma de Cuba continues to be one of the crown jewels of Stephen Starr's empire. The restaurant has a very cool feel - always feels like it's the place to be. service is always professional and friendly. The food is the star - the most flavorful ceviche in the Delaware Valley and the stuffed dates are one of the best appetizers anywhere. Impossible to pick a favorite entree as they all have incredible flavors and personality. Skirt steak, Tuna and Swrodfish are amazing.

Made reservation last minute and only went to Alma De Cuba because they had an opening. Had not been in years. It did not disappoint. The ambiance, service and food were Stephen Starr top notch. Biggest bonus and surprise of all was the amount of Gluten Free options! Was told the chef's relative is GF so he has been developing more GF menu items. All of which were outstanding! Entire party, GF and non-GL raved about the food. Our server was outstanding as well - wish I had his name. Friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Evening could not have been better.

Food was outstanding and the mojitos are superb! Service is the best! Only negative is that the food is a little pricy (expect $100 per person with two drinks each, no wine, shared appetizer) for small portions (although I was not hungry at the end). Service was very good and never felt rushed.

Food is great and although the noise level is high we had a nice experience for eight people to be able to have a good conversation. My only complaint was the speed of service - our poor waitress was working a lot of big tables and there were may lapses in attention. When paying these kind of prices I shouldn't have to ask to have my wine glass poured - twice. If you're ok with that expectation then it's a great option!

Very slow service, good portion sizing for price, wonderful food presentation and very flavorful. Uncomertable 1st floor dinner area (this area is moor a bar seen). Found hostes to be very friendly and accommodating as we called to state that we would be a little late. This could be the reason for bad table. Over all would go back, just ask for better table or don't be late.

Alma De Cuba is a very beautiful restaurant on both the outside and inside. The staff are incredibly accommodating, as well as very knowledgable of the menu items. My only reservations with my experience were in regards to price. Having been both to Cuba as well as many Cuban American restaurants I was a bit disappointed by the pricing of dishes as the price point seemed a bit high in comparison to other places I have eaten at with similar quality food.

Food excellent! Service was poor but this was due to the second server who took over our table. We were abandoned for half an hour and finally decided to leave instead of order more. Part of this had to do with a failure to communicate to us that he had taken over our table from the first server. Our first server was excellent. We will likely be back

Went on a Friday after the Flower Show. Got there for the Happy Hour drinks and apps in the lounge, which was cozy , but got progressively louder. We moved upstairs to a quiet table on the banquet and had a delicious dinner. My husband had Arroz De Mariscos and I had Lechon Asado. Both arrived piping hot, beautifully plated, and full of flavor. We also shared the "signature" chocolate cigar for dessert, with Cuban-style coffee. It was a"cute" presentation, but delicious. Our server in the lounge was prompt and attentive, knew the menu and made recommendations that we enjoyed. The server upstairs was professional and welcoming, attentive and knowledgeable, and made our meal very enjoyable. Also of note, the host at the door remembered me from our earlier phone conversation and was extremely accommodating. She was gracious and very sweet.

Extremely loud ambiance, not a fine dinning experience at all! waiters are so stressed the way they serve to the guest that it can stress you out just buy looking at them. My Glas of cava which ordered, was without bubbles, I informed the stressed waiter he gave me a new glass, low quality wines and cavas on the list per Glas! The cheviche was just spicy but no other great flavors at all and the fish didn't taste fresh at all. We got recommended to actually just come at the happy hour sit on the bar and just order from the happy hour menu - maybe it's better. The restaurant we do not recommend at all
