Alma Cocina Ratings and Reviews
Very good food. Great taco selections. We received apathetic service from greet and wait staff. First time I've ever had a waiter with back turned we he talked. "Ready when you are". Wow..impressive. IF you can put up with peculiar music (on recording) and impersonal wait staff then not too bad of a place
We were staying across the street at the Westin and happened to go in this place. At first we didn't understand the menu and were going to leave but I'm so glad we didn't. The food was very good and the appetizer fried cheese in green sauce was phenomenal (they didn't have queso but this was very good). We're Tex Mex people but their tacos were delicious. It is upscale but was worth the stop in.
We arrived for a business lunch meeting. After 15 minutes of watching newly seated customers immediately being served, while our table was still waiting to be greeted by our server, I was ready to leave and take our business elsewhere. I got up instead and asked someone, who appeared to be a manager, if they could send someone to wait on our table. Patrick showed up, who was not assigned to our table, and made our business meeting less painful. They gave us a free appetizer, but that really doesn't compensate for the loss time we could have been discussing business, instead of looking around and hunting down our server.
Eventually, after about 30 minutes, our waiter arrived at our table. Seriously, why even show up?
Alma is one of the best run restaurants in downtown Atlanta. If you are a resident of ATL it is well worth the drive. If you are on business staying in downtown ATL, it is a must experience! Fresh ingredients expertly presented to excite all of your senses. Great to treat as a tapas experience. Cannot recommend highly enough.
I was in town for a conference and heard great reviews of this place. I made reservations on open table to meet several friends at the restaurant. We had the best time. The guac/salsa trio was wonderful. We also greatly enjoyed the plantain chips! I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone in or near the Atlanta area.
Guac and salsa selection was the highlight of the meal. We ordered the duck breast (tasted dull and lacked quality texture) and the vegetable combination dish (nice combinations and good portion size). Would only recommend for chips and guac/salsa and drinks.
Has a great night with friends. Has the flight of guac and Salsa and it was off the chain!! Our entree was the pork chop and it was great and don’t forget the dessert! Tres leche and churros!! Al fantastic!! Our sever was wonderful, we sat outside but inside the ritz.
Happened upon this restaurant while searching for someplace good to dine before a concert at Phillips Arena. Two friends and myself made reservations as soon as they opened for dinner and were immediately seated and greeted by a server. The server was very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. Margaritas were delicious and the food was upscale Mexican, which was outstanding. I would highly recommend this place and cannot wait to go back to Atlanta, just to eat there again!!
We work in walking distance, so when we are sick of the fast food options, we schedule a lunch meeting at Alma and order off of the Rapido $10 lunch special menu. The staff is very knowledgeable, the food is amazing and we are back in our office within an hour.
In town for a convention and was looking for a unique place to go near our downtown hotel. Cool atmosphere and unique food. Service at a the bar was ok... they were pretty busy, but our server at the table was great. Very knowledgeable about the menu and helped my colleague and I pick great selections. I'll be going back next time I'm in town for sure!
We ordered the Margaritas that have the exclusive tequila in them and loved them!!!
We also ordered the tasting salsa & guacamole and loved it all except the smoky one that tasted like smoky BBQ sauce. We also ordered the cod tacos and thought they were good! Next time though we will stick to just the tasting salsas & guacamole as that is a lot for 2 women! Also, one drink and split the other would have been enough for us! Was hard to eat the tacos as we were full and hard to finish the second drink.
I'd like to emphasize the impeccable service. There was some event in downtown that day (maybe convention), and the traffic was horrible for a Saturday night. We arrived exactly at our reserved time but couldn't find parking. I called and they helped with directions but we just couldn't find. Anyway, after spending a lot of time circling around, we made it. No one made us feel bad for being so late (I felt awfully bad myself). I really appreciated such friendly attitude. And of course their food was vibrant and full of flavor, but it's a given for Alma Cocina :) Now I know how good they are at service. We'll be back soon!
Meh. I've eaten at a lot of fine Mexican restaurants all over the US, including Topolobompo abs Frontera Grill and this was just ok. The steak tacos were way over spiced and you couldn't even taste the meat. The elote wasn't properly coated. The corn tortillas were not as good as a lot of hole in the wall places. The chips and salsa were decent. The server was annoyed that my 12 year old wanted to order from the children's menu and huffed and rolled his eyes. Not worth the money at all.
Excellent authentic Southwestern food with strong Mexican infuence. I'm vegetarian and have never been short of optons. Beans and rice are vegetarian. Everything I've ordered has been excellent and the service has always been stellar - a standout in downtown Atlanta. I usually walk / lyft but I recently learned that parking is validated. Located on same block as Peachtree Center MARTA station.
