Alma Cocina Ratings and Reviews
This is not a restaurant for the blue collar, or "working man." If you have money to burn, or the means, then this place is for you. I mistakenly thought that for the prices, it would be more along the line of a fine dining experience. We tried the guacamole and salsa appetizer for 17 dollars, a salad that cost us 10, and shared the scallops which were 30 dollars. For 30 dollars, I thought we'd get more than 5 scallops. There was nothing special about them, and no sides, just the scallops, with some pureed cauliflower slathered all around the scallops. Total bill, with drinks, tax, and tip, cost me 108.00. If you're looking for fine dining, then try one of the upscale steak houses, or Ocean Air Seafood, or even The Sundial. This place is good for a night out on the town, or a weekend gathering with friends, or a date night, but definitely not for a quiet evening meal. Lots of bustling and noise going on.
Very good food. Great taco selections. We received apathetic service from greet and wait staff. First time I've ever had a waiter with back turned we he talked. "Ready when you are". Wow..impressive. IF you can put up with peculiar music (on recording) and impersonal wait staff then not too bad of a place
We were staying across the street at the Westin and happened to go in this place. At first we didn't understand the menu and were going to leave but I'm so glad we didn't. The food was very good and the appetizer fried cheese in green sauce was phenomenal (they didn't have queso but this was very good). We're Tex Mex people but their tacos were delicious. It is upscale but was worth the stop in.
We arrived for a business lunch meeting. After 15 minutes of watching newly seated customers immediately being served, while our table was still waiting to be greeted by our server, I was ready to leave and take our business elsewhere. I got up instead and asked someone, who appeared to be a manager, if they could send someone to wait on our table. Patrick showed up, who was not assigned to our table, and made our business meeting less painful. They gave us a free appetizer, but that really doesn't compensate for the loss time we could have been discussing business, instead of looking around and hunting down our server.
Eventually, after about 30 minutes, our waiter arrived at our table. Seriously, why even show up?
Alma is one of the best run restaurants in downtown Atlanta. If you are a resident of ATL it is well worth the drive. If you are on business staying in downtown ATL, it is a must experience! Fresh ingredients expertly presented to excite all of your senses. Great to treat as a tapas experience. Cannot recommend highly enough.
I was in town for a conference and heard great reviews of this place. I made reservations on open table to meet several friends at the restaurant. We had the best time. The guac/salsa trio was wonderful. We also greatly enjoyed the plantain chips! I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone in or near the Atlanta area.
Guac and salsa selection was the highlight of the meal. We ordered the duck breast (tasted dull and lacked quality texture) and the vegetable combination dish (nice combinations and good portion size). Would only recommend for chips and guac/salsa and drinks.
Has a great night with friends. Has the flight of guac and Salsa and it was off the chain!! Our entree was the pork chop and it was great and don’t forget the dessert! Tres leche and churros!! Al fantastic!! Our sever was wonderful, we sat outside but inside the ritz.
Happened upon this restaurant while searching for someplace good to dine before a concert at Phillips Arena. Two friends and myself made reservations as soon as they opened for dinner and were immediately seated and greeted by a server. The server was very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. Margaritas were delicious and the food was upscale Mexican, which was outstanding. I would highly recommend this place and cannot wait to go back to Atlanta, just to eat there again!!
