We had a fabulous meal. What would make it better would be a bit of bread to soak up the delicious sauces.
When i left this restaurant and was driving back, i realized... food was great! Have no complains! Appetizers, main dish, desserts....just tasty! And OMG! Their margaritas are THE BEST!
Alma is one of our favorite restaurants in Baltimore so naturally we went there for a birthday celebration. When we arrived we were very disappointed to hear the arepa grill was still broken. However, Alma, as always, did not disappoint. We were "forced" to try dishes we wouldn't have had the area grill been functional. The main tuna and duck dishes were delicious. The veggie main and chicken wing app were also great. Knowing a few of us were celebrating birthdays, the staff put candles on our dessert plate. Although I'm drooling for the arepa grill to be back in action I won't hesitate to return to Alma even if it's not.
Food was amazing! Every dish was better than the other, if you want to try Gourmet Venezuelan cuisine, this is the place! Cocktails menu is also great!
I'm kind of surprised to see that Alma has so many positive reviews. Atmosphere-wise it's in a shopping center and has an open kitchen that is not used. The wine list was not impressive and very expensive, but not nearly as expensive as the food. We paid $26 for the ravioli, which is literally two ravioli about the size of a quarter. While the food is good, most of the small plates are $18 or more. It was the first time I've ever walked out of a restaurant still hungry.
Amazing food and even better service. I cannot wait to come back in the future!
The staff was very friendly! Food and drinks were tasty. The dessert - vanilla ice cream with toffee and the tres leches cake were fantastic!
We came in for restaurant week and can't wait to come back. The cocktails were fantastic and the food was like an explosion of flavor. We honestly enjoyed every bite of food from the Arepitas to the Tres Leches. One of the best meals I've had in a very long time. We will absolutely be back.
Food was excellent. The service was a little slow. Overall it was very good.
My husband and I celebrated our 5 year anniversary here and it was fantastic! The food was really incredible with totally unexpected flavor combinations. We both ordered drinks and enjoyed those as well. Good Sangria.
Excellent food and service. Owners on the floor engaging with customers. Authentic!
If you are planning to spend a great evening and trying some exciting food, I highly recommend this restaurant!
It was our first time at Alma. We saw their Restaurant Week menu and decided to give it a try. The arepitas de queso were good, but the accompanying sauce was a tad too sweet for our liking. However, both the arepitas de chicharron and the tostones were delicious and we used some of the accompanying sauces with the arepitas of queso as well!
As main dish we tried the tongue, the tuna and the duck. All 3 of them were very well-cooked with delicious flavors. But the tuna was my favorite: it was a big chunk that got quickly seared on one side. And that was that. Outstanding!
We selected a Cabernet Franc and we truly enjoyed it! Our server did an awesome job: she took good care of us, checked on us, and made sure we had all we needed without being overbearing.
Came for restaurant week and it was great. Portions are smaller but we were told in advance. Would definitely return
Excellent food - unusual menu - well presented. But, wine list is absurd. Least expensive bottle was $38 - everything else north of that, most well north of that. Too bad - everything else very nice.
Outstanding meal. Charming people. Attractive space. We will go again soon.
Lovely experience. Wonderful restaurant family. Food was interesting and delicious!
The tuna and duck were absolutely spectacular. Experiencing this place during restaurant week has introduced us to a place we probably would have never gone to. However, we are definitely going back!!!
I didn't expect to have the best ravioli I've ever eaten at a Venezualan place, but I did! Plantain noodle with a classic skatefish stew filling and the most perfect understated cream sauce ever. Looking for a special occasion to visit here again! Its out of my usual price-range, but well worth it. Our waiter was also great- super lively and ready to share with us the background and inspiration behind dishes.
Maybe it was the restaurant week menu, but I didn't feel like the meal was worth the price I paid for it. My friend ordered the ravioli and the presentation was great, but there was like 5 ravioli's on the plate. The presentation was great for all the dishes, the dishes had interesting combinations, and the descriptions of the menu made you envision something huge was coming (literally),but I guess presentation won't fill you. The service was great however. Would I return? Hmmm
Our first time here and we were not disappointed. The food as well as the presentation were artistry at its best. The atmosphere is dining casual and the wait staff were some of the best we've experienced; friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. I cannot imagine anyone not enjoying a meal at this extraordinary restaurant.
Best spot in town. Everything is delicious. Service and bar staff amazing.
Visited during Restaurant Week. Restaurant was packed! Ordered off both the Restaurant Week and "a la carte" option menus. All items were to our satisfaction. Service was exemplary. There was initially some concern that portion sizes with the Restaurant Week menu may be insufficient, but our worry quickly evaporated, and all diners were quite full by the end of the meal. Would not hesitate to visit Alma Cocina Latina in the future.
Alma's is such a unique gem. The food is upscale, authentic, and delicious. Each bite was loaded with a million flavors.
Alma Cocina Latina, now a little more than two years old, has reached a magical point in its development. Amazing food at all levels, amazing staff, really one of the best restaurants I know of anywhere. It is the kind of place that will make people who love good food but are a little put off by the foodie craze to realize that really great tasting organic food can be both beautiful to the eye and satisfying.
This was my second time dining here. My first time was absolutely incredible so I had high expectations for the second time around. The limited summer menu was a bit of a bummer, but there were still some great choices. The appetizers were incredible. I got the Churasco for my main meal, and the cit of meat was really fatty. The flavors were amazing, but it was fairly undercooked (Asked for Med. Rare. Came out very rare) and a supper fatty piece of meat. Like I said, the flavors were incredible and I will be returning, but I was disappointed in the Churasco Entree.
This has been a favorite place as I eat a gluten feee diet, a varied menu and the food has always been so good. The service continues to be warm, friendly and helpful. But the menu has significantly changed and is more expensive and formal. Some of the gluten free items on the limited menu were not available. We ordered three small plates and one glass of wine, and with tip, we paid $80. Of the three small plates we really liked one (fried small Arapas), liked an eggplant dish and did not like a salad type of dish with diced squash. We left feeling hungry.
Pricey but an outstanding food experience. Small portions but large on flavor.. The Marquesa dessert is to die for.
Great server, Tables kind of close together and high noise level. I'd like to go back for happy hour as the crafted cocktails looked interesting... I enjoyed the white sangria..
Great food and service!!! Very impressed with our server she was able to explain each dish and bar menu. Planning on going back and will have my birthday dinner in September . Nice not to have to drive to DC to find great food.
I travel all over the world. I can't begin to tell you just how wonderful Alma is. The staff, the owner the front end. The bar. The best in city dinning experience I've had. The Tartar is superb and the osobuco is to die for!! A real must try. My fav. Cuban restaurant ever!!!
Alma Cocina Latina was a great experience all-around. Good food is the reason this place exists and they clearly take that mission seriously. The chef's palate is fantastic - he blends flavors well and creates complex, stimulating dishes. This is extra important because they are also adventurous. They clearly try new things all the time, and having a chef with such a good feel for the alchemy of flavors - and a commitment to substantial, nourishing cuisine - helps make it all hang together. The staff are great all around, and they seem excited to be there in the presence of such wonderful food and happy people all around. We'll be back. It's worth a trip from DC for sure.
Over the top and pretentious for no reason. This was not my kind of place. But if you like to feel like a snob and eat over priced, small portions... it may be for you.
Delicious and intriguing food, wonderful cocktails, lovely service and a lovely restaurant to look at. Our only complaint, and this seems to be all too common with many restaurants, the entrees were to our taste over salted.
We used to love Alma but the menu has changed and not sure if the prices have increased as well; However, dinner on a Friday evening with friends shouldn't be $400.00 dollars with tip. It's good but not that good. Changing us $30.00 for a pork sandwich is outrageous! $17.00 for an Arapea with no sides?!? Almost everything you order including drinks are $10+ dollars.
Absolutely love Alma. It is our go to restaurant. The food is amazing and innovative. The menu has additions or rotates on a pretty regular basis and provides a vast selection of food options as well as some staple arapas
The staff is so welcoming and accommodating and the drinks are creative and delicious.
I cannot say enough positive things about Alma. A must try dining experience!!!
Alma is one of the brightest gems in Baltimore's food scene. This was our last meal in Baltimore before moving half way across the country and we couldn't have chosen any better. Thank you to Irena, Chris, and all of the other great people at Alma!
The chef is very creative and innovative and most important, the food is delicious! Eating at this restaurant is a gastronomical adventure. Service is excellent. Highly recommended!
Reception was less than stellar upon entering. Seated by the door, every 2 minutes someone was going in and out - blowing our menus and napkins everywhere. Took the server entirely too long to even acknowledge our presence. Food was subpar. We enjoyed the cocktails more than our meal. Additionally, if you're going to have "flowers" on the table, they shouldn't be brown and wilting.
Food was outstanding!
The server was friendly and knowledgeable and provided great insight to the menu. The food and drinks were delicious! Definitely returning for another visit!
First time back to Alma since the early days when lunch was served. Food was fabulous and the wait staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Slow to get drinks to table but otherwise first rate. Had a delicious arepa featuring duck and a delectable steak special. More food than I could eat -- not a usual comment for me -- black beans and rice, radish hicama avocado salad, yuca fries and Alma salsa all delightful on the plate and still good out of the fridge two afternoons later for lunch. The space is creatively done, comfortable but a bit noisy. Parking available in a garage if no surface space so convenient for those who must drive.
