Alma at Hawk's Cay Ratings and Reviews
The food was incredible!!! The sangrias were the best I've ever had.
My only complaint is that we booked this night seeing that they had $5 sangiras from 5-7pm. When we sat down and the waitress greeted us she asked if t was a special occasion and I sad the Sangria night brought us in. So naturally we ordered 2 during dinner and 2 to go. When we received the bill we were charged $10 each and told that was only a deal if you were at the bar. I would have went to order them from the bar.
We visited this Florida Keys restaurant, set within the Hawks Cay resort, for a change from the hotel we were staying at. The food was good, and nicely presented. However, the environment of the outside tables was dreadful - no sea view, in the midst of an area with kids running around and lots of noise. The indoors seating is much better.
The food was fantastic and our waiters both Delroy and Kenroy were awesome! They kept our kids laughing and entertained and made our night very special. The prices are a bit expensive so that is why we chose it for a special occasion only. Would be great for a romantic date night as well.
The restaurant and the ambiance was great. The waitress was very nice and educated.
The food was good. The only thing that didn't like it was the lady in the front in charge of siiting the clients was a little bit rude and not very friendly. She made us wait like for 15 minutes and when we walked in we realized that the restaurant was empty. I did not understand why it was the wait.
My wife and I stayed at the Hawks Cay Resort and had been out all day so we decided to eat on property. Alma was highly rated so we thought we'd give it a try. She had the tomato soup (delicious) and I had the Caribbean Wedge - great combo of ingredients and dressing. We both had the Scallops (four large) and they were incredible. The had porcini mushrooms, spinach, cherry tomatoes and gnocchi. The flavor was outstanding. We could have split the entree since we had the appetizers. We were too full for dessert. I can't say enough about the great food and service - we never wanted for anything.
The spiny lobster smelled like ammonia when I tasted it I had to immediately spit it out it was so bad then they gave me two steaks in its place I ordered the medium well they came out rare when I gave them back the chef butterflied the filet mignon and Cook them so well done that they were on edible I would never recommend this place to anyone the only saving grace was that gave us back our money as you can see on OpenTable were into finedining but this gets an F
Beautiful setting with impeccable service. Food was very bland for somewhere advertising themselves as Latin American cuisine. Very little flavor to the soup, Paella or tuna - not bad, but none of the Latin American flavor ad was described in the menu offerings. Expected much more, especially at this price point.
We stayed at the resort over Christmas and for my wife's birthday.
Based on the general reputation and as part of the resort, it made sense to go to Alma.
We were seated promptly with our reservation at 7:30p on the patio. The patio is nestled in a corner between the reseption area and the resort buffet restaurant, with a view of the pool area and a fireplace outdoor lounge. Not bad, but not spectacular as well.
However, since no waiter showed up outside for 15 minutes, I went to the bar and picked up drinks, and asked for service.
That did the trick, and our waiter was very attentive for the rest of the evening, however, it did not feel authentic, and there was no apology or explanation for the mishap.
The tapas (cevice and Octopus) were very good, the main courses (FL lobster, lamb and filet) were OK for the price, nothing spectacular.
Dessert (key lime pie, bread pudding with vanilla ice) was very good.
We might go back for drinks and tapas, but probably not for a special occasion.
The food was very good not exceptional; the ambiance was a bit interrupted by the number of children there (it's a resort after all). However the service was truly exceptional. A real pro who clearly knew the wine and food menu with great attention to detail. This made the experience for us
