Our hostess was welcoming and accommodating. Our table service, Natalie, was fully knowledgeable of the menu and was attentive . The dessert combination of the banana beignets and the salted caramel martinis was over the top but absolutely perfect for the occasion! Thank you, Alligator Soul, for yet another memorable evening for our family.
Service and food was phenomenal! Great place to try new things. The exotic options are definitely something that should be tried. The antelope was fantastic. My boyfriend and I are from Macon but when we return to Savannah, we will definitely be back.
Absolutely excellent food and service - great ambiance - highly recommend it
This restaurant had been recommended for my visit to Savannah. I had a late dinner since I had gone to Charleston for the day and my waiter appeared disappointed I didn’t order a large meal (I ordered two appetizers ).
The food was excellent....especially the roasted mushroom salad and the service was top notch. I really enjoyed the ambience inside....it had a very cool vibe.
Best meal I had in Savannah. Perfectly done fish, excellent service, and stylish place that wasn't too loud or too stuffy. I wasted my timed money on those other popular overpriced places closer that are resting on their laurels.
The food was only surpassed by the service! If I lived in Savannah I would dine there again and again:)
We had a wonderful dinner at Alligator Soul. Service was excellent and prompt, and food was exceptional. You pay for it but I'd say it's one of the best meals I've experienced. I'd highly recommend it!
The best meal I’ve had in a long time. Amazing. Flavor, great staff, a true dining experience.
It was absolutely phenomenal. We changed our dinner reservations that night to this restaurant and I’m so glad we did! Definitely the best food we had in Savannah while we were there!
Take the walk down the steps!
Food and service were good. Ambiance is fun, food is good, always an enticing special on the menu. The shrimp and grits were delicious!
Excellent local restaurant. Great wild game and local oysters.
Probably because of a problem in the kitchen, it took much too long for us to be served. On the plus side, the manager nicely apologized, and reduced the bill.
On the food. My flounder was overcooked, losing much of its flavor. My wife's fresh fish was lacking taste. It had been cooked with few of the ingredients which would have brought more flavor. The vegetables on the side were served cold, presumably by choice, but a choice I would disagree with.
I was kind of disappointed by this restaurant. The whole time I was there, and the meal was leisurely, I kept thinking that it should have been better—especially for this price range. The surroundings are beautiful. It’s the most beautiful subterranean space I’ve ever seen. The food just wasn’t that inspired. There was no “wow” factor. We found the dessert selection particularly unappealing—not one chocolate dessert.
We have dined at Alligator Soul numerous times. The restaurant is amazing. A little pricey but the dishes served are creative, out of the norm, and absolutely delicious. They have game meats there such as antelope, bison, ostrich etc. These aren't served all the time and they may have something different when you go. They also have delicious drinks. Highly recommended.
Went here for my birthday, second time there and the food was just as amazing as I remembered it. We tasted the adventurous menu choice and it was fantastic. They even went above and beyond knowing it was for a birthday because they left a little box with a treat on our table waiting for us to arrive!
I have Celiac disease and multiple protein allergies, and they were able to accommodate all of them! I highly recommend this place!
Fantastic restaurant in Savannah's historic district. Although it was a little hard to find!
Went there with friends. Food was inventive and delicious. Good drinks. Service was a little spotty as the entrees arrived right after the apps, but a small thing in an otherwise excellent meal and experience.
Restaurant is over priced for the quality of the food, the portions, and the ambience. Restaurant decor is dated and not the cleanest. I don’t recommend, much better options in Savannah.
Daniel the bar tender was very pushy and rude, shrimp and grits not good al all, apps and desert best part of meal
Had to pour our own wine
Very nice all the way around....good food...great service...original presentation...decent pricing considering.
WoW!!! This place exceeded all of our expectations. I am constantly trying new places and things so when someone hits it out of the park I definitely notice. From the atmosphere to the food it was on point. THE FOOD!!! OMG!! The most amazing dish I have ever tried in my life is the Oysters A La Soul at Alligator Soul! They were baked in a half-shell with crawfish and bacon and a breadcrumb type of topping and served with a sweet and smokey habenero sauce and some lemon wedges... YES!! MORE PLEASE!! They were 15 bucks for 6 or 25 bucks for 12. Worth every penny. I'll probably be back and just order these by the dozen. Keep em comin! I ordered an incredible steak that was cooked perfectly. The Duck Fat Pommes Frites (apparently a really fancy way to say french fries) weren't very good to be honest. They should definitely remove them from the menu and it was the only negative about the whole night. My wife ordered the stuffed pork chop and she loved it. Stuffed with granny smith apples, feta cheese, spinach and rosemary. Served on top of a wild rice that was perfect. We absolutely loved this place and will be back on every future visit to Savannah!!
We had a fantastic experience at alligator soul. We had oysters a la soul, fried green tomatoes, the house salad, the antelope special, and the diver scallops. All of the food was excellent. Our server Ryan was amazing. He gave wonderful recommendations for drinks and food and was attentive throughout the meal. It was probably the best service we've ever had!
We have been going to this eatery since 2006 whenever we're in Savannah. The food, service and ambiance is great. I have recommended this place to everyone I know that are going Savannah and they love it also. Go and enjoy!
Our server was very attentive, extremely knowledgeable of the menu and had a warm, lively personality. The lamb chop was thus far the best I ever had and the carving board included a great variety cheese, meat, bread and other accompaniments. A definite must to visit again upon our return in the future
Wonderful food, outstanding service and warm and inviting ambiance. Food choices were varied and one can be a meat lover or vegetarian. Loved this place. Favorite restaurant in Savannah.
Everything was 5 Star from the moment we walked in and were seated.
Our server was Ryan. He was extremely knowledgeable on everything on the menu and he did a great job attending to all our needs.
We started with the Oysters Ala Soul.
The oysters were large and had a delicious topping. They were cooked to perfection!
The house salad was no simple salad. It had a number of local fresh ingredients with a
Vinaigrette dressing. The special part were the
Parmesan cheese grit croutons.
Next came Grilled antelope served on a bed of
Linguine with a creamy mushroom sauce.
I ordered the antelope rare and when my dish came out of the kitchen and the meat was cooked medium, Ryan immediately took my plate to the kitchen and replaced wrongly cooked antelope with succulent juicy pieces of rare meat. The dish was fantastic.
Desert was a Jack Daniels Bourbon Cheese cake
Which also was unique and superior.
This was our second visit. Big server/kitchen errors both times. Forgot one entree on first visit.!! Second visit server delivered entree stacked high with onions which we had reported as allergic. Replaced it with grits and boiled shrimp instead of grilled shrimp which we ordered. To their credit they did not charge for one entree on either visit, but really. Could not recommend.
I travel 43 weeks a year and eat in the best restaurants all around the country. This would be one I would put at the top! The service was wonderful! The communication from each server was clear and motivating!
Best dining experience ever! A truly remarkable EVENING out. Service, food, and suggestions were a true dining milestone!
Excellent food! The cheese board was a tad too exotic for my liking but a fun dish to try! Bar drinks were average.
A most enjoyable evening. Excellent food! I would highly recommend the oyster appetizer and the entre of elk tenderloin.
Our dinner at Alligator Soul was the last thing we did before leaving Savannah for home, and it was the perfect ending to a great trip. We had a waiter names Ryan and he was extremely funny and genuine. He really made our night and gave us excellent service, this guy deserves employee of the month! The food was delicious and totally fun and different.
We were disappointed that even your seafood dishes for the most part contained meat.
We came on Friday during Lent when, I thought it was well known that Catholics abstain from meat on Fridays in Lent. I always thought Savannah had a rich Catholic Heritage as reflected in the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist and other historical origins of a Catholic culture.
Why not offer several really great menu options on Fridays, during lent at least, for seafood without any meat.
Alligator Soul is one of the most unique restaurants beneath the surface of Savannah; it is like stepping back into the time of prohibition. We did not eat ( so rated in the middle), but the menu is diverse; offering a rotation of rare specialty meats and other treats; including a large meat, fruit, and cheese board. I loved the atmosphere, the location, and the wine. The service is also great.
This is not a place you would find walking around town. I saw it on Trip Advisor and was very pleased.
Very lovely place, with well above average food. Recommend that the management team focus on developing a much better wine list, with more options and focusing on delivering value. A great example of this can be found at Ten 11 Local in town. Both the international breadth of choice and the extremely fair pricing are exemplary for this level of restaurant. Alligator Soul deserves the same. Hire a young, good sommelier to lead the way!
Excellent food. Excellent service. We wanted to try everything in the menu. Healthy portions at a reasonable price.
My husband and I made reservations for our 6th anniversary. The entire staff was extremely friendly. The food was absolutely divine! Hat's off to the chef! The Alligator Fritter was amazing for an appetizer! Our favorite part of our meal was definitely the mussels, the broth was so delicious, warm, and savory! We couldn't help but to dip the light and airy rosemary bread into the broth and eat up! Great experience, highly recommended!
We loved Alligator Soul! From the maitre’d to the bartender to our server we were treated exceptionally well. I had the elk, which I had never tried before. It was excellent! My wife had the scallops, which also were great. The servings were large, so no room for dessert. We will definitely return the next time we are in Savannah!
