Alligator Soul Ratings and Reviews
This has always been our favorite restaurant, & still is. My husband meal was wonderful, our appetizers were as well. I was so very disappointed when my meal was just bad. We did let our waiter know, & all were very apologetic & accomidating. What really surprises me, is as soon as my meal was delivered, I noticed that my fish was almost burnt, & obviously over cooked. It should not have ever left the kitchen.
Alligator Soul is still our favorite, & we will certainly not let this incident change that. We’ve ate there several time, & in every way all aspects have been perfect. We will not let this one bad meal change that.
I was celebrating my birthday and every employee wished me "Happy Birthday" and there was a special little birthday box on our table when we arrive with mini pecan tartes! Theses little touches were amazing! The bar drinks are phenomenol (get the Revelation) and the food was wonderful with great portions. Will definitely be going back.
Was my favorite restaurant in Savannah. I visit there every year making reservations well in advance. This experience was a disappointment due to the lack of energy from the service we received from the bar. Too many other restaurants I've wanted to try and now I will rather than returning here. Thanks for the good run Alligator Soul!
We went here for our 18 year wedding anniversary and had incredibly high expectations...... The service was amazing, but the food was less desirable. I ordered the daily catch, grouper in a pistachio and panco crust..... is wasn’t bad, but there wasn’t ANY FLAVOR. VERY BLAND. Husband ordered the carving board and the bone marrow was VERY gelatinous. Very disappointed in this experience!
We enjoyed our dinner greatly. My daughter and I both had the catch of the day, two good sized pieces of pecan & panco encrusted flounder over grits (???). The fish was served hot and it was terrific!! We both felt the grits, which were mixed with maybe cheese, was far too heavy to be paired with the fish. My wife had their awesome seafood gumbo and our son-in-law greatly enjoyed the chef's special wild ostrich. All of the staff we encountered was delightful. To start off, the 4 of us shared and loved the fried green tomatoes. You'll feel like you were treated special and well fed. In fact, though the desert menu looked fantastic it was just too bad given that it was offered just after we ate. Too many great offerings and too little room.
We received a recommendation from a couple of locals that we had talked to about the restaurant. We are so glad that we went. Not easy to find but worth looking for. The service was amazing with unique Menu options and great atmosphere and wine list. Farm to table ingredients . You must check this place out.
As always, Alligator Soul continues to impress. Excellent food, impeccable service and a great atmosphere equal one fantastic meal. Try their private label wines--surprisingly good. Also, feel free to try out the more exotic fare in the form of appetizers--they're very flexible about allowing you to mix and match your preferences.
The service was superb. From the moment we walked in the door, the staff were friendly, attentive and highly responsive to special requests. They made certain that food sensitivities and allergies were carefully taken into account.
The food was extraordinary, from the martinis, with a side order of Parmesan grit croutons (the perfect combination) to our main courses of Red Deer and Flounder paired with a lovely French Burgundy, all the way to dessert, their version of peach cobbler. Every item was well-executed with an imaginative flair. (The seasoning of the lightly breaded flounder with fresh fennil root was such a surprise.)
Savannah is known for its restaurants, but even among extremely fine dining experiences Alligator Soul is a stand-out. I have dined with them three times in as many weeks. I've been lucky to have been in the area on business, but this time was just for pleasure, and a pure pleasure it was.
Alligator Soul is a must for us when visiting Savannah. The food and service is just outstanding. Our server, Daniel was very knowledgeable about the menu and even provided information about local areas we had questions about. The Oysters A La Soul are my favorite appetizer and were delicious as always. Red deer was the exotic offering for the evening and it was cooked perfectly. This has to be the best restaurant in Savannah!
Had a really nice dinner here. They do push the culinary envelope a bit. I had gator egg rolls as an appetizer, something I wouldn’t normally eat . Shrimp and grits for entree and a delicious salted caramel martini after dinner. They do offer an exotic meat entree. The night I went they featured red tail deer, though they sometimes have elk and other venison. Overall everything was well prepared and my server, Davis, was attentive without being intrusive
Had a issue with one of the drinks. Spoke with the waiter about it. He was very kind on his response. The manager then come to the table and was extremely rude so we just excepted the drink as it was. Very embarrassing to business partners. Great Food but would not recommend for busseniess outings.
We ordered a bottle of wine and it took 45 minutes for it to come, and when it did it was the wrong bottle. So another 10 passed before it arrived. Then we didn’t get our food until 1:30 after we sat down, and both dishes were cold. We then had to hurry as we had plans after dinner but we were told they could get us another dish because it takes no time.... Having waited an 1:30 for food and it wasn’t very busy at all (Tuesday night) we were in sheer disbelief but sure enough if showed right up. We ended up having to scarf down our food but had lost our appetite. Dinner wasn’t cheap either . We complained and nobody ever came to talk to us. Probably one of the worst restaurant experiences we’ve had in a very very long time. Very disappointing since we were celebrating our anniversary and this place had had such good reviews.
We always enjoy eating here when in Savannah. But this visit may be our last. From seating to completion was over 3 hours, most of which was spent waiting on our food. And it was a 'not crowded' weeknight. We took friends with us for this visit and were a bit embarrassed as we had bragged so much on this place based on our past experiences.
My husband and I went there for our wedding anniversary. It was our first time going there, and we were extremely impressed with our waiter and the taste of the food! I had the gumbo and my husband had the steak. Both meals were so delicious! We were impressed with our whole experience from beginning to end. We will definitely be going back there, soon!
Easily one of the best meals we have had in Savannah! Our waiter was very knowledgeable and was quick to offer suggestions and even convince us to try some items outside of our typical choices - and we were not disappointed. The exotic specialty was a Red Deer that was sensational! It was cooked to perfection and is pretty much what dreams are made of.
The drunken mussels are addictive. The broth was so good that I just wished I had things to dip in it (or that it was appropriate to drink) it was just that good!
Atmosphere was romantic but the temperature of the restaurant was a bit on the warm side. Their organic cocktails are made very well and I recommend trying the Etta James. We definitely plan on returning!
