We booked Alligator Soul for our anniversary. We were greeted with smiles and given two small quarter size complimentary pecan tarts which was a nice surprise but minimalist. The service from Matthew was wonderful but the food was lacking. The food came out very fast and was definitely pre-prepared. We ordered shrimp and grits and the Gumbo. The shrimp and grits lacked flavor. The gumbo was tasty. However, the shrimp in both dinners were translucent and mushy not crisp; as if they were farm raised not wild caught as advertised. Very nice romantic atmosphere.
First time at t his restaurant but not our last. Absolutely great food and service.
Amazing. Sam the waiter was so great and so much fun. Would recommend to absolutely anyone
My husband and I really enjoyed our visit at this restaurant. The ambiance was amazing. Service was amazing. Food was amazing. Will definitely revisit in the near future.
We went on our anniversary weekend and absolutely loved it! They have us a little personalized treat as an anniversary present! The wait staff was so knowledgeable and attentive! The food was very good!!!! Omg the bread n butter and scallops were soo yummy! Such a cute space ! Everything was great ! If there was anything I wish there were better dessert options but really I can't say anything bad about AS it was very good and would go back!
We had another perfect experience at Alligator Soul! We love this restaurant and return as frequently as possible.
Filet was cooked perfectly. Drinks were well made. Would return on a future visit to Savannah.
My husband I went for our anniversary trip. They made little sweets with a personalized gift box. It was unexpected but so thoughtful. We will go back every time we take a trip to Savannah. Food is beyond amazing!
We waited a week to get in this restaurant. It is beneath the street level. It is very cozy and feels like a giant wine cellar. It was vey exciting. They serve some sweet bread and butter at the table. It was delicious. Not many appetizers but some items can be ordered half portion. We started with the gumbo and it was the best ever. Our server was the problem. She spilled the wine all over the table and my shirt. She did not even change the table cloth. We dined in literally in wine. We were listening other servers for other tables. They were explaining the menu and the food. Our server just asked what we wanted. I ordered the ribeye. It came raw from the kitchen, even thoe i asked for medium. The strawberry salad was good but we asked the dressing on the side and of course, it wasn’t. I am writing this review hoping she does not ruin your night. Great food! We paid the check and left. I am very disappointed.
Absolutely amazing. Will def go again. Best bread and butter ever.
Best gumbo and sword fish!
Food was amazing and our waiter was fantastic. Will go back.
Wedding night dinner. Our waiter, Matthew, was extraordinary! Highly recommend. Food was exceptional!!
Excellent night out
They really try to make your meal special
The gumbo Was superb
I had the Special Elk. Was very good
With seasoned collards
My wife had the shrimp and grits
Very good Had pepper jam on top
Will definitely be back
Outstanding food and service. A shout out to Sonny our server. I had the diver scallops which were excellent and the shrimp and grits for an appetizer which was also excellent. The gingerbread martini was the perfect end to the meal. This place is pricy but worth it.
Strawberry salad and gumbo were A+.
Great ambience matched by great service. Food is really good and well prepared in taste and presentation. Be prepared to spend some cash, but you get what you pay for so if you want a special night, go to Alligator Soul tucked away down the stairs in downtown Savannah.
Fantastic food, service and ambiance. Had a wonderful anniversary dinner experience. We can definitely recommend the sword fish and the Little "Hilbo" Ribeye. There's no things "little" about the steak, by the way.
This restaurant is a must when in Savannah; you won't receive better food or service anywhere at any price. Chef de cuisine is remarkably accomplished for his age - one expects old-world gold standards such as this from only old school chefs. Please make a reservation, have the highest expectation you can muster, and remain impressed. Every. Single. Time. This visit we did small plates - (i) oysters a la soul have an incredible flavor balance; please do not miss them or you'll regret it; (ii) the charcuterie board with its honeycomb, candied gator and bone marrow sells itself - truly peerless; (ii) the alligator mac with chorizo is mouthwatering and we used the oyster fork to not make ourselves sick on it. Service always with flair, chef visits your table, and you leave happily drunk on fine dining alone. Please do yourself this favor; we're lifetime fans.
Superb in every way
Amazing food and amazing service!
Excellent value. Unique local themed menu. Energetic space and very attentive service.
Alligator Soul has SOUL! Who knew you could do that with food? 😉
Wonderful food and service.
Fabulous food as well as service.
Ok, but just OK. Average food, average service. OK
Outstanding food, very original and professional preparation and presentation. The swordfish was the best we have ever eaten. I would also suggest trying the wild/exotic offering. We had the antelope on our visit. Was the best restaurant of our four nights of dining on Savannah, both for the food and service.
This was my boyfriend and I's first visit to Savannah, and, being the foodies we are, I did a lot of research on where we should go out to eat. Alligator Soul had excellent reviews, with good reason! The space is very cool, not too dark, not too noisy, perfect for date night. Our waiter was informative, friendly, attentive while not being overbearing, and even gave us a little free dessert. My lamb chops were cooked perfectly, and the cocktails were on point. My only wish is that I didn't live all the way in Chicago and could return to try more of the menu!
I was amazed by the food, the restaurant in general. I would Definitely come back to this place and tell all my friends to come if they are in Savannah.
Food was delicious, great ambiance and perfect service. The sweet tea glazed duck was the best i've ever had and the oysters are amazing.
The food and atmosphere were great and the service was good. Thanks for the anniversary gift.
What a deeply delicious experience. I had the duck and my husband had the venison. They were both unforgettable. We shall return again and again for special occassions.
Fantastic dining experience. Social distancing measures were taken seriously. Food and atmosphere were amazing. Would definitely return!
Great food and service was even better (Matthew). Will always recommend when asked about food in Savannah.
Celebrated my wife’s birthday here. It was outstanding in every way. Will definitely return whenever we’re back in Savannah.
We come here every time we’re in Savannah and always have a fantastic experience. I’m vegetarian and my husband is a meat eater, but we both always find something we love.
Alligator chorizo mac & cheese was absolutely amazing and is a must get.
My wife had the shrimp and grits which she loved. I had the ribeye which was cooked to perfection.
Their specialty cocktails were fantastic and had interesting combinations that just worked.
Only negative is the beignets could of been more flavorful.
Our server was fantastic and very attentive.
Thanks for a great experience
Excellent service and fabulous food. Fillet was delicious! 4 chocolates dessert was a great ending.
The food here was divine. My fiancee and I shared the carving board. Evey single element paired so well with each other. It was great. Then for the main cause she had the swordfish wish succulent and delicious. I had the hilbo steak. It was one of the best steaks I have ever had. We will definitely be coming here again.
