Allgauer's Ratings and Reviews
Excellent Sunday Brunch
Our group came here simply because of proximity to our son’s wedding venue, and we were a little nervous about inviting others to a brunch we never had experienced. We were relieved that the variety and presentation was outstanding, as was the quality. Our group was sat in a room that was a small ballroom, so it didn’t see seem very cozy, but there was a window with a view of the ice sculpture. I would make the drive again...
Had not been to Allgauers for a few years. We both had excellent dinners! I had the onion soup, and chicken and my husband had the potato crusted halibut and special salad.
We shared the peanut butter ice cream pie for dessert which was also wonderful.
We will return soon to do it again!!
Have gone to Allgauers many times for Sunday brunch
My sister and wanted to have lunch there (heard their hamburgers were outstanding!!!
Instead we saw they had a lunch buffet to die for
Sirloin of beef
Mashed potatoes and gravy
3 kinds of chicken
Desserts including cheese cake and cookies
What a delight from 11asm to 2pm
I had not been to the Friday Night Seafood & Prime Rib buffet for quite some time. In years past it had been very good but I can no longer say that. The carving station was not always manned. The salad selection was marginal and the oysters were gone early on as were the crab legs. Dessert items were limited and also in short supply.
Allgauers is a totally underrated restaurant. The food and service are consistently great. If you are looking for a quiet place for a very good meal at a very good price...try this one out. And, if you are lucky enough to get Bruce as your waiter then you get a real bonus! This is a go-to place for us at least twice a month - despite some very good restaurants that compete nearby.
While staying at the Hilton Naperville/Lisle we stumbled on Allgauer's Friday evening "Prime Rib and Seafood Buffet" feature. Wow! After many years of living on the East Coast my husband and I can be rather snobbish about seafood, and we are generally NOT enamored with buffets. This buffet is an exception. The variety and quality of the seafood offerings was truly impressive, and we loved the fact that the huge variety was presented as small bites allowing for lots of sampling. The prime rib, while honestly not our favorite beef cut, was delicious. Service was thoughtful as repeated clearing of our sampling plates was needed. If we lived closer this would definitely be a regular Friday evening dining destination.
Love this restaurant. They have changed their menu and they no longer have Ahi Tuna (a favorite) and it is expensive but for a special occasion it is great. Food is great and the service is terrific; it is rarely crowded for dinner. In fact last night when we arrived another couple left and for the rest of the evening we were the only ones in the dining room. Of course, it was Labor Day.
What a disappointment. Allgauer's has really sunk to a new low. This restaurant used to be one of the classiest, most prestigious restaurants in all the western suburbs. Now it's just a hotel coffee shop. We hadn't been there in at least a year, and I barely recognized the place. First of all, with the latest "remodel," the comfy sofas in the waiting area have been replaced with a single bench and two chairs. The artwork on the walls is gone, replaced by plain white walls. What happened to the Tarkay print? That's valuable!!! The place looks barren and uninviting. No more tablecloths. The menu used to be bound and multiple pages. Now it's a single laminated sheet with a handful of appetizers, sandwiches, salads and just a few entrees. This is not the fine dining Allgauer's is known for. Fortunately, the potato-crusted halibut remained, but the other five or six entrees are unremarkable. The restaurant is being run by children, who congregated around the hostess stand, chatting with each other, most of the night. Sadly, we've lost a jewel.
I was there for the Prime Rib and Seafood buffet which was good, but not the best Prime Rib, for an all you can eat buffet it was good. Seafood was good. I think due to the all you can eat they purchased meat not up to their normal standards to keep costs down. Again for an all you can eat buffet, it was pretty good, but not the best I've had in the area.
No one was on the prime rib station attending to customers. Diners wait for several minutes to get their slice. When the person assigned placing the food on trays their pretzel were stale, we were told to tell it to our server. When the server was told about the pretzel, he tried it and agreed but the response we got was, the chef said that is all they have and they can still be eaten. It took the server a long time to remove used plates from our table considering the place wasn't packed the night of seafood and prime rib buffet.
We were planning to celebrate another special occasion there but after our recent experience, we opt not to go back.
They used to have excellent service which makes our last visit extremely disappointing.
