Allgauer's Restaurant - Doubletree Hotel Ratings and Reviews
Everything was great -- food, had the prime rib special, service (waiter very attentive --made my drink, Hypnotic Martini, which is typically not on the drink list and usually not available), and a birthday meal is free with id proof of age and the purchase of two other meal entrees (this was honored as well). My concern, however, was the addition of the gratuity for a party of 3 when the sign at the hostess desk says it is added for parties of 4 or more? The reason sighted was the birthday meal? Also, the hostess came over after we had paid to kindly remind us that our server left early??? A strong hint to leave in an all but empty restaurant (we had an early reservation 5:00 p.m.) The point-- I ate at Ruth's Chris the night before the check was $200 and no gratuity was added in. The tip of $45 was graciously and gratefully given for excellent food and service. In short this waiter would have received more, a $20 tip, versus the $11.83 added to our bill prematurely. My friend who paid for my birthday dinner was kind enough to add $5 extra in cash for the waiter's tip. Morale of the story-- don't assume the diner of color who requests the birthday promotion will not tip you or will tip you poorly. This incident reminded of why I don't go to the restaurant often even though it is near my home. However, if you love prime rib do go there on Sunday between 5-9 pm for the Prime Rib Special. The food is good and the price is right. The tip??? that's your call and hopefully the hostess won't rush you out of a partially empty restaurant.
This is a place that never disappoints, except for the actual space, which is small and ponderously decorated, to be kind (a painted red brick wall, really??).
The food and service, however, are always top-notch. We've been there a number of times now, and will always come back.
Took our son for their anniversary.Very nice surroundings. Service was short handed but you could tell they were working very hard to service all. My wife ordered off the menu. Took a little while for the meal to arrive for my wife. Everyone else was almost finished because they choose the buffet. We considered that because they were short handed. Wife enjoyed the tuna very much and she loved the mashed potatoes, Along with my guest I choose the prime rib buffet. Would have liked more vegetables for the salad choices. The prime rib was a little fatty other wise the taste was very good. Will return. Wife wants to try more of the fish items
Valentines Day should have been a little more together. Receptionist was wonderful, table location was good and the menu for the occasion was good. Service was disjointed. The waiter was friendly enough but I had to keep getting his attention. I had to wait and than ask for a soup spoon. A little more attention would have been great.
The restaurant offered a variety of foods and the service was attentive. They seemed however to be short staffed for the second time I visited and it showed a bit. The food was consistently good with huge portions. You do have to consider this is a hotel restaurant and the atmosphere is less than vibrant.
Went here for Thanksgiving dinner. Turkey was very dry even though it was the dark meat, cranberry sauce was soupy, the worst I ever had. Green bean casserole lacked green beans but had plenty of the creamy what ever was in it. Honey carrots were way too sweet. There was no whipped cream for the pumpkin pie. Very disappointed! Looked forward to Thanksgiving dinner, but it was ruined by coming to Allgauers. Never again.
We had a party of 4 for dinner and the only complaint we could come up with is that we should be allowed to take a couple if pieces of turkey or ham home for that day after Thanksgiving sandwich. Our servers Gabriel and Jeremy were wonderful. I appreciated the fact that we had a nice size table for 4 and were not squished together like some other restaurants. I cannot speak about the regular restaurant, but based on our meal it would be worth a try.
Well, guys, I know there is a sign for this restaurant as you pass the Double Tree Hotel in Alsip. But, honestly, who thinks of a destination restaurant in a suburban area? In downtown Chicago, that would be a given; but here in the suburbs, we generally just go to a local restaurant when we want to eat close to home. But wait! This is close to home! And, not only is the menu terrific, the staff is wonderful, the restaurant is clean and cozy, and the food is just plain great! And, following the southside mindset of more bang for your buck, the portions are not only delicious, but generous enough to make another meal from the leftovers. There is something for anyone's taste here. Go try them. You won't be disappointed!
My mother and I had the Filet Mignon. Food was excellent, my mother loved the Cream of Chicken soup (my mother makes the best soup in the world so this is quite a compliment). Wait staff very personable and knowledgeable of menu items. The room has a nice ambience. The place never got busy. Not sure if this is because the restaurant is in the hotel. This is sad because it has great food and service.
Will definitely go back again.
We try random restaurants from time to time for a little spontaneity. So we were open for anything. We were pleasantly surprised to find a this quaint little restaurant inside the hotel. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We had to bring our two month old because babysitting fell through. They adjusted the air conditioning so she wouldnt be cold even though we didnt request it.The food was excellent. We enjoyed it there and would recommend it friends.
A law passed in Illinois in January 2014 that prevents a server tip from being included on dining bills. Allgauer's continues to add an 18% tip to the bill. We were a party of 2, dined at this restaurant in July 2014 and after brining this to the manager's attention, nothing has changed.
Beautiful restaurant, our first experience and it was wonderful. Really reasonable prices, great food and the service was exceptional. The restaurant is in a hotel and every member of the staff asked about how our night was going. We felt very well cared for.
I had a 6 am breakfast reservation as I was leaving for a business trip. The restaurant opened late (6:20 am) and didn't know how to check me in for opentable. I chose the breakfast buffet. The coffee was bitter, there was no syrup by the french toast until I asked, and there were fruit flies by the fruit. The breakfast was comparable to other hotel buffets but the service left much to be desired.
Came for Mothers Day dinner, and it wasn't overly crowded l ike so many other places. Maybe it was the rain and hail storm we encountered on the way. We were able to easily make reservations. We absolutely loved the prime rib buffet. Very good understated service.
I enjoy my dinner I think they could have had a little more like corn and one more soup. The ranch dresses was a little to thick it made the taste a little off. The season for the hot wing was not what I'm use to they weren't hot I think they could check into a different season. Hot wings are a big things so you want them to have that pop out taste. The steak was delicious the service was beautiful, a very friendly place.
The hostess took my order, the kitchen was closing soon & the lounge was noisy so I had her place it for room service,I ordered the salmon she recommended & an extra side of potatoes. Sadly, I didn't check the order when it came, I left it covered til I sat down to eat after a quick shower. The kitchen had closed before my meal had even arrived. When I did sit down to eat I found I had NO ENTREE AT ALL, just side salad, the chard & 2 potato cakes (not the sides I had ordered). I called the front desk & let them know what happened, it took a while for them to understand "no entree", like nearly 10 minutes. I asked for the meal to be comped, they still charged me gratuities! Not a good reflection on Double Tree or this restaurant.
We received a Groupon $25 off, so we thought we would try this restaurant. Atmosphere was nice. Waitress came to the table and introduced herself. We waited 15 minutes for the waitress to come and take our order. She did offer to pay for the appetizer were ordered for forgetting about us. The food was good, except I order steamed vegetable with my Salmon, because I don't like swiss chard and I got the swiss chard anyway. She never came back to the table to see how everything was. Next time we saw her she brought our check, she never asked if we wanted anything else. When she came back she told us they add gratuity to the bill because we used a coupon - I was ok with that. I wasn't ok with being taxed on the gratuity!!
We had gone there for Valentines Day so we thought we'd go back back for our anniversary. Sunday is Prime Rib Buffet Day and although the Prime Rib was tender, it lacked flavor. A good steak doesn't need Steak sauce but this steak did. Everything else was good and we would definitely return and order off of the menu.
My first time dining at this restsurant. Never thought places like this existed in the south suburbs. I came here for my 31st birthday dinner and it was amazing. We got the crab cakes for an appetizer, it was simply delicious! (Needed just a couple more crab cakes). For dinner I had the filet, my mom had the short ribs, nice size portions of everything. We really enjoyed our food!!Our waitress was also a delight. I cand wait to go back for brunch and Sundays they have a all you can eat prime rib buffet.
We had a birthday offer of a meal free with one purchased and decided to try Allgauers. We were greeted and seated quickly, and service, for the most part, was attentive, however our waiter made several mistakes which took away from the overall experience. My steak was ordered with a blue cheese crust and came without (our waiter nicely brought a generous serving of heated blue cheese and didn't add the surcharge) and my husband ordered the ribeye steak and received prime rib instead. He didn't want to take the time to send it back, so he ate is anyway. Both meats were ordered medium, and both bordered on well done. Sides were very good. Overall it was a good but not great meal for the money; we wouldn't return if paying full price.
I live about 15 minutes from the restaurant and decided to take my wife for a Valentines weekend dinner at this location. I really never thought about the place one way or another until now. The food was amazing the service was great even though they were short staffed. This place is not for big crowds but that's what makes it nice.
The Valentine's Day special which went over to the 15th, was an excellent choice. They gave us two appetizers which consisted of shrimp chowder soup and we shared some cheese fondue. Our entrees were stuffed chicken breast with linguine, artichokes and spinach in a white cream sauce, my fiance' had the surf and turf with roasted potatoes and steamed veges (zucchini and squash). The deal also included a heart shape chocolate cake with raspberries and strawberries on the side. Topped of with a glass of champagne each. We couldn't even touch the dessert and I am able to split my leftovers with my fiance'.
