Allegro Seafood Grill Ratings and Reviews
This is my second time with my family in this establishment, i call it Seafood Heaven. The food is out of this world. I come from Orlando, Florida just to have dinner here with my family. I recommend this restaurant to everybody. The place is very inviting and the assistants and waiters very attentive, pleasant and friendly, specially the one in the picture. Sorry i couldnt get his name. Visit this place, you won't be disappointed.
If this restaurant fails it's not because of the food but the worst service we've ever experienced.
The waiter was obviously not a people person; had a superior attitude. Took our orders and never returned. The food was delivered by the kitchen staff and any additional requests we had to stop the busboy and ask. Even the check was delivered by someone else and not once did anyone stop by our table to ask whether we needed anything else. We had to tell the busboy we wanted dessert.
The restaurant was less than half full, so that is not the excuse. I left a 15% tip reluctantly and only because I didn't want to penalize the poor busboys. But who knows if Mr. I'm too good to be a waiter will even share. Be warned!!!
From the moment we entered the restaurant, we got outstanding service and were
seated in the outside patio... drinks, selection of appetizers and Sangria was just
perfect. Service, from busboys, waiters and Maitre d' was the best I have experienced
in a while.
It was supposed to be a special occasion for three birthdays. I made a special note of that in my reservation. The service was pretty much non-existent. For all the great reviews I read, I was expecting a lot more. It was supposed to be a special dinner and it didn't feel special at all. The cake we got at the end (no birthday announcement or anything) was definitely old.
The seafood was average. I've had better. Atmosphere felt like a sports bar. Our waiter never returned to ask how our food was. We didn't even get water.
I wouldn't recommend.
While the food was outstanding, the service on Saturday, July 15th was terrible. I don't know if they were short handed on wait staff, but we had a 630pm reservation. Arrived ON time and weren't even offered to take our drinks until 20 mins after arriving. We never even got glasses of water. When drinks were taken, our waiter left quickly before taking our dinner orders (we were ready to order immediately after sitting unattended for such a long period.) Our waiter never even introduced himself and seemed pre-occupied with something. We NEVER got our waiters name. As the restaurant become more crowded, the service became even worse. The only time we saw our waiter was 20 mins after we were seated. We never interacted with him again. When we were ready to leave in order to catch a show, we had to find a busboy to get us to-go containers and to bring us our check. We never even saw our waiter again to pay the check so my hubby found another worker and asked them to handle it. She then took it and gave it to our "waiter" who took his time finalizing the bill. I don't know if all the above is the norm, but although the food was great, I don't think I'll be here again. I honestly had heard that it could be racial, but I choose not to believe that. My opinion, maybe it was a language barrier. Just be prepared if you do go. I looked around at the restaurant and it seemed everyone was being ignored and receiving terrible service.
The food is very good and the portions quite generous. The service is okay. They don't come around to check on you and you have to fLag the staff down to get a refill kn the water.
I made reservations thru open table and once I had a confirmation, the restaurant called to say they did. Ot have tables until 15--30 min later. That was a downside. They should at least offered water while waiting at the bat.
I had the sea bass. Delicious but it was. Whole fish with bones. :-(
Read rave reviews about the food and ambiance, specifically the outdoor patio. Unfortunatley our 6pm reservation was too late to afford us outdoor seating. Inside was nice though. Food was not as good as expected. Given other options I may not try again. But I encourage others to check it out.
The service was attentive but not intrusive, the food was prepared and served quickly and was absolutely delicious. An additional plus was the valet parking, saving time and the search for a parking space. All in all, if seeking excellent Portuguese food in a convivial atmosphere at a terrific price, I absolutely recommend Allegro Seafood Grill.
Amazing food! Service was indifferent to good. Had to ask for the wine list and the check, etc. Grilled shrimp messy but best I've ever had! We sat outside - which we love - but it was loud and smokey. Inside is gorgeous with a cool salt water fish tank but it is also cramped upon entry and the host wasn't clear about getting us in and to our table (first time and we don't know where the patio is). Overall worth it for the food and the Vinho Verde.
This is a great restaurant tucked away in the ironbound section of Newark. We had tickets for a show at NJPAC and the waiter was very professional and very accommodating. You can tell he takes pride in the restaurant. The rolls were fresh and the olives served with them were a nice touch. We were served carrot soup which was warm and comforting. The basic house salad was presented beautifully and elevated with avocado. The paella for one was a realistic size and quite good. I would also recommend the salmon stuffed with crabmeat. Since we were there on a Thursday night, the house wine was $2 a glass, which was quite refreshing. We plan to come back to this restaurant again.
The meal started out well. We ordered an entree for 2 as an appetizer for 4. It was the hot mixed seafood platter. It was very good, nice mix of langostinos, lobster, crab, mussels, octopus etc. It was seasoned perfectly. I would go back for this. The Portuguese wine was also quite good. The entrees were disappointing. Swordfish was overcooked and if not for the garlic butter would have been tasteless. The Bachalau was absolutely devoid of seasoning including salt.
Was looking for a spot that took a reservation for 2 on a Saturday in Newark and found this hidden gem. They took a reservation via Opentable. We got there and were pleasantly surprised they had valet parking which is key especially in Newark. The waiter was new but very friendly and accommodating. The bus staff, hostess and manager were very nice and attentive as well. We tried the Allegro sangria and it was fantastic. The orders were timed perfectly for a Saturday, not rushed or delayed. The food was fresh and tasty as well. This is as good as Paella can get in Newark. I've eaten all over in Ironbound and this was top notch. The only disappointment is that it is winter and didn't get to try eating outside. Will be back again and in the summer. This is going to be a regular stop for us. This spot edges out other local favorite places of mine and the fact that I can get a reservation for 2 sets the bar. Price was right as well.
Highly recommended for great Portuguese food. My go to place in Newark that I have gone back to about a dozen times and never been disappointed. Love the Strubel stew with white beans and seafood. Portuguese sausage appetizer is another favorite.
Pedro took care of us and he is fantastic. Very attentive, knowledgeable about the food and always willing to give recommendations for the non Portuguese novice.
Food and service were good although they forgot 2 soup orders but no big deal. Got noisier as night went on but place is small so expected. They made up for soup by offering on the house drinks at end of dinner. That was great touch. Would Def recommend and return.
First time here, and certainly not the last. Came to eat before seeing the NJ Devil's game and absolutely loved everything. We started off with two tapas: Pimentos Recheados c/ Bacalhau and the PoIvo a Feira. Both were to die for; flavorful, tender, authentic. I had a 16oz filet mignon which was cooked perfectly, seasoned with salt and pepper. The server was never knowledgeable and accommodated my dietary restrictions (Paleo). I can't wait tom come back here.
