While the fish (Petrale Sole) was good, it was served with about 2 Tablespoons of under seasoned spinach.. nothing else. The plate lacked even the smallest amount of creativity. The host was absorbed and enthralled with 2 young ladies who were drinking wine with him. It took forever to get our main course, as they were unconcerned about our dining satisfaction.
I go to San Francisco with a girlfriend for one week every year. We always go to this restaurant and tell the waiter, "Just have the chef make us something yummy". Usually it's 5 small courses with wine parings. Never had anything that we both didn't love and rave about.
We go early (6PM) and usually there is only one other table of guests. By the time we leave, with our complementary rose, the place is pretty full. The staff are so kind and accommodating.
Highly recommend this place for an excellent Italian dinner.
Excellent in every way!
Lorenzo made the evening very special as we were celebrating my parents anniversary and my brothers birthday. Delicious food!
We were embraced by Lorenzo, the owner, from the moment we walked in! So warm and inviting, it was our first time there and we are from across the country, but that didn’t stop Lorenzo from making this an unforgettable dining experience! Molto Bene!
We arrived at the restaurant 10 minutes early, door locked and no signs of life inside. There were other diners milling around, they had earlier reservations than us. No signs or other info posted; we knocked on door with no response.
We waited 20 minutes with no activity, and when a local walked by and said this happens frequently at this restaurant, we decided to Uber to another restaurant.
We will definitely not be returning to Allegro Romano.
Just amazing food and service. We cannot wait to go back.
Excellent meal - pasta and fish both delicious, fera’s has and appropriately seasoned an excellent neighborhood restaurant
Just the best place!!! Love the food! Love the ambiance! Love the people! Just love everything about Allegro Romano!
Nice - I would go back. V generous on the wine pours - (great start!) portion sizes were good, the lobster ravioli tasted great, but could have been a little more 'al dente' - The wild boar bolognese was great, and the pasta WAS al dente! - The deserts were a little weak; the tiramisu was the best out of them. The service was refreshing and it didn't feel rushed at all which i really liked!
Best truffle dishes we have ever had outside of italy
Great tasting food and friendly services
My second time here in 9 years, and the only restaurant I vowed to go back to when returning to San Francisco. Just as good as we remember from 9 years ago. Lorenzo treated us like family and we couldn't have enjoyed it more.
For quiet, true Italian dining experiences, you won't be disappointed.
Had a delicious dinner of exceptional wine and food that was sadly ruined by a very uncomfortable situation with the host / waiter / owner of the restaurant. Towards the end of our meal after we paid, the host/waiter (whom I learned on their website following the meal is one of the owners) engaged our table in a discussion. What started as a friendly conversation and debate became an abrasive & aggressive argument from the owner towards my guests & I, which was completely instigated by the owner over a difference of opinion around sports. There was table slapping, cursing, and as felt by my guests and I this man was going out of his way to pick a verbal fight with us. It got to the point that things were so uncomfortable that we just got up and left the restaurant. It is a shame that such an incident occurred because prior to the conversation we would have recommended this restaurant (as it was my idea to go there for dinner after several enjoyable experiences over the years), yet after this incident I wouldn't subject anyone I know to risk such an uncomfortable situation. There is no reason why guests at a restaurant should be made to feel that uncomfortable for no reason.
Neighborhood favorite. After dinner, walk across the street for a great San Francisco view.
An absolutely fantastic restaurant! Maybe the single best dish of pasta I’ve ever had. My wife an I loved it. Truly a hidden gem.
Lorenzo is simply the embodiment of Rome. He is energetic and fun, an expert and a craftsman. I suggest that you allow him to simply take you through the tastes of Italy by delivering perfection to your table. In other words … don't order … let him pick the menu and the wine!
Some of the best halibut I have ever had! Great atmosphere and food!
Very enjoyable meal. Attentive service, tasty dinner. My only complaint is that the Cabernet Sauvignon listed on the menu was a 2009, and the bottle that was presented and opened was a 2015, for the same price. Always kind of irks me when you feel a bit hoodwinked. What are you to do, turn the bottle down?
Perfect hideaway off Nob Hill. Cozy and classy. Owner is the waiter and makes sure all is taken care of. He was a little under dressed for a place that has a over $20 a plate...but he was very nice. Great date place of place for close convo while eating.
First ate here when recommended by colleague from New York who said it was best Italian restaurant in San Francisco. My wife and I recently enjoyed fantastic meal with risotto and truffle appetizer as the highlight. Will definitely return during next trip to San Francisco.
Allegro Romano is my favorite restaurant in San Francisco. Intimate, authentic, colorful, local, consistent, comforting. It's always my first choice.
Beets in the salad were hard, the lamb dish was surprisingly bland (overcooked?), service was just ok even though the place was half empty, the music was too loud and emanated from a poor quality boombox. The place has gotten high ratings but I didn't have the same experience. Won't go back.
We all enjoyed our meal. We will be back!
The food was excellent. Service was good.
Very expensive for what you get. Terrible service. They played Pandora too loudly with commercials at one point. This used to be a very special restaurant, but not any more.
We were there to celebrate my sister’s 50th birthday. Lorenzo, the owner, greeted us and sat us by the window that has spectacular views. My brother-in-law wanted to order for everyone cause he wanted to try everything! The menu is limited in terms of items, but not on flavor. Everything is outstanding. The tortellini with truffle oil is usually served as an entree but it’s great as a starter along with the buratta with honey, prosciutto, and asparagus salad. The entrees were amazing as well. I had the Pettit filet with a peppercorn sauce. My wife loved her lobster stuffed raviolis, but like the linguini with truffles more. We brought our own wines and shared them with Lorenzo and his girlfriend. They enjoyed the wines very much and shared some of their favorites wine as well. Topped off dinner with some dessert and port...it was a night to remember.
Great food, great host...we’ll be back! Grazie Lorenzo!!
Allegro Romano is a friendly neighborhood restaurant. The Italian dishes are their specialty, especially pastas. The seafood is fresh, but drowned in sauces.
A neighborhood gem. Small restaurant with limited menu and small but excellent and well priced wine list. My wife and I enjoyed fettuccine with wild boar bolognese and lamb osso buco. Both were very good. We were rewarded with a complimentary piece of outstanding cheese cake. Service was excellent.
Love this place! Second visit as memorable as the first. I would be here weekly if I didn’t live on the east coast. Ambience, attention to detail, and lovely staff make this my favorite in SF.
Absolutely incredible restaurant. Small, romantic, great food, great service!
Awesome place..we have eaten there with a group of 8-10 each year during annual tradeshow for the last 3-4 years..
The Owner Lorenzo has become a friend..service= great ..food = fantastic..
Go there I guarantee you will NOT be sorry !!
I love this place. We happened to be one of those nights where the owner had a group of friends and we got to experience a very fun night of eating, singing and laughing
Food was goo! Choices excellent and perfectly prepared. Service was . . . The attention to our needs was ok, except for the fact that the owner decided to befriend one table on the other side of the restaurant and then forgot about us for the last half of our meal. I shouldn't have to beg for attention given the restaurant was practically empty. Every review of this place that is negative seems to say the same thing, so I don't think it will ever change as I don't believe the owner cares--if that's how he wants to run his business, that is fine. I will not choose to go back there to suffer the lack of service because the food wasn't so amazing that I would choose to ignore the lack of attention.
The worst service I have ever had. Ruined our New Year's Eve dining experience.
My boyfriend and I dined here on NYE and it was really nice! We split a salad, each had a glass of red wine, he got the wild boar pasta and I got the pesto burratta tortellini. The food was amazing! My only issue was that the portion size was smaller than we hoped and my boyfriend left feeling hungry still. This will still remain one of my favorite neighborhood Italian spots!
Outstanding meal and service. Great value! I would recommend to my friends.
