We all enjoyed our supper at the Allegro. We will definitely be back.
Allegro was participating in Edmonton Downtown Dining Week and it was on our list of ‘new places to eat’. Great time to try a new restaurant or so we thought. Our server brought menus including the special DDW menu from which all three of us chose, 2 osso bucco, 1 arctic char. We were then told that they had sold out of the DDW meals. Osso bucco is a regular menu item, arctic char is not, and we inquired as to whether we could just have the osso bucco from the regular menu with the DDW menu. We were told ‘NO it’s not the same’ I have visited restaurants in several cities during dining week and have found that the items offered generally come from the regular menu, they are just offered as part of a multiple course meal at a special price. Customer service is what separates a good restaurant from a great one. Allegro did not post any information on the DDW website stating they were sold out and they didn’t seem to care that we had come specifically for this menu.
We decided to eat elsewhere.
Went for Edmonton dining week, got the 30 $ meal, very tasty veal, the sauce was a bit too salty though. The waitress was very confused and kept bring out the wrong orders.
Pauly the server was awesome. Food portions for downtown dining week were huge! And everything tasted great.
#downtowndiningweek started yesterday. I made all my reservations for this year, beginning with @allegroitaliankitchen. Let me first start off by saying, I am not a chef, a food critic or a restauranteur - just a gal who likes to dine on great food. I made my reservation for 7:15. Our cab driver and ourselves had a hard time finding Allegro on 100 Ave - not because I hadn't passed by it a thousand times but because of the construction fence surrounding it and their sign was not lit. As we entered, the restaurant was at full capacity. There were 8 people ahead of us waiting for a table. After 20 minutes of not being acknowledged, I interrupted a server to say I had a reservation. Another 10 minutes and we were finally seated. I already picked my menu choices before arriving - settling on the $45 Executive Dinner of Scampi, Osso Buco and the Creme Carmel for dessert. We started with ordering a bottle of wine which arrived at our table 30 minutes later. I proceeded to let our waiter know my choices for this evening. "I'm sorry ma'am, our scampi didn't arrive and we are out of the Osso Buco" Disappointed, I chose their second choices for this menu - Insalata Mista & Arctic Char. The salad was ok and the main was way over salted and came with dry rice that they insisted was risotto. "Are you ready for your tiramisu? Say what?! I guess since you are out of the Creme Carmel. I personally would never go back. I may try their location on 95 street. If you are not able to provide what you are promoting for #downtowndiningweek, make sure people know this menu has changed by updating the website. 👎. The only good thing was the wine, the warm bread and of course my date
Booked a reso at Allegro for 4 for Saturday night during Edmonton's Downtown Dining Week. Had confirmation from Open Table.
We arrived on time to a full dining room. Stayed 20 minutes while 5 other reservations arrived behind us. No one had been seated by the time we left.
Might have been good. Guess we'll never know.
Have been there before and it was really good. Service good. Food very salty
The owner was super friendly and the service was excellent. Food was large portion, we had a good time.
We had a great time, awesome service and great food.😀
Everything was absolutely awesome! The service/server was fantastic
Today was my 5 year anniversary with my soon to be husband. My anniversary dinner turned into an engagement when my hubby asked me to marry him this morning making this one of the best days of my life. I had originally made reservations at another restaurant but changed it when the engagement happen to Allegro Downtown. I did this because this is where we had our first date. Celebrated the news of our two child at this restaurant and have had every other anniversary dinner at. We have never had bad service until this evening, the food has always been exceptional. Tonight we got neither. We had to wait for the waiter to take our drink order, the waiter seemed distracted and the food was not up to par. I had the sea bass it was filled with bones. I had one in the first fillet and as soon as I took my first bite of the second there was three. I think what bugged me more was that when the waiter came to ask how our food was, I pointed out the bones. He said sorry and walked away. I didn’t finish my plate, that has never happened. All in all very disappointing performance tonight.
I’m usually not a negative person but the meals we had were not good. I had the salmon it was very over cooked and dry, another meal was too salty the lady could not eat it. Our dinner companions were missionaries from Haiti and do not get out for meals very often so I was really disappointed.
Best Italian in Edmonton. Hands down. Fantastic owner and waiters.
Wait staff was good and kept us 4 people somewhat entertained. We were seated in the back room as there was a large party that appeared to have the entire main seating area. Service was a bit slow on this account- the large group definitely had priority. Food was decent, nothing overly exceptional. There are better Italian restaurants priced around the same within the city.
Allegro is very comfortable and food is comforting. Service excellent.
We were in the mood for some Italian food and my wife and I were not disappointed. We were warmly welcomed and once the wine arrived we enjoyed some bread with balsamic and olive oil.
My wife ordered the Linguine with seafood and I enjoyed the cannelloni. The portions were substantial and the food was delicious. I will certainly be coming back.
Food was very good. Ambience and atmosphere was blah.
Probably one of the best Caeser salads in the city. Nice menu. Good food. Real parmesan!
Was nice to experience Allegro again after many years. We just happened to find a night when it wasn't busy and had the place to ourselves. We'd go again, the food was awesome and the atmosphere was appropriate and location convenient.
Nice meal in a friendly setting. Waitress was excellent and very participatory in making our evening great.
We had tried Allegro for lunch and enjoyed it so booked an early dinner on a Wednesday. Not very busy, but service was friendly and efficient (if a little brusque) and the food was good and plentiful.
Our group went to Allegro Italian Kitchen for a department Christmas dinner. The waiter greeted us at the door and took us to our table. He had a fabulous attitude and wonderful humour that we all appreciated. The food came out hot for all 7 people and tasted wonderful! They don't have lasgne on the menu for dinner, but they do make it fresh for lunch. Fortunately there was a piece left from lunch that had not been sold, so everyone got the meal they requested. It would be nice to see this option on the dinner menu. Prices are fair and the portions are the perfect size for a dinner meal. Would recommend this place to anyone!
Very good dinning experience and food! Would go back!
Awesome food and service
Amazing Italian....best I've ever had, even when I include eating in Europe. The owner and staff are so friendly you can tell they really enjoy their work. Atmosphere is comfortable and classy.
The food was very flavorful and the wait staff were attentive and very pleasant.
Always a good voice for a neighbourhood restaurant.
Sunday evening 6:30 reserve for 4 for 10th wedding anniversary ( not really needed. Food was tasty and very generous portions, limited wine list, service was friendly but sporadic..1 server , 6 tables..
We would go back again.. maybe just for casual supper.
The server was attentive enough with some humor and genuity, while still allowing us to enjoy our date night. The food was unbelievable especially the prosciutto appetizer, the zitti con pollo, and the chocolate cake! Their house red wine is sweet but subtle.
A quaint restaurant south of Jasper Avenue - with excellent service, food and appearance throughout. I plan to return there again!
Excellent service. Menu selection was fabulous. Meal was delicious.
excellent meals for all of us in a open friendly environment.
Great service with even better food. Elegant food, with great portions and wonderful pricing. The flavours are incredible
Very nice - we had a lot of catching up to do and didn't feel rushed at all.
We would definitely go back next time we had the opportunity and do highly recommend this place to others. Our server was friendly and very attentive. Our group of 5 all thoroughly enjoyed each of our flavorful, delicious and well portioned dinners. Very apparent they used fresh vegetables and the fresh buns were a real treat.
If you like a creamy mushroom sauce this place has one of the best we've ever tasted.
A local friend from Edmonton says he frequents this place at lunch and it is consistently great food and service.
The restaurant was quiet on a Saturday evening, which made conversation easy. There is no loud music, kitchen noise, or other distractions. The wine list is short, but there are some reasonable options at reasonable prices. A caprese salad from multi-coloured fresh cherry tomatoes got our appetites up for more; it was beautifully presented and oh so tasty. My dinner special was a great combo of shrimp and chicken and pasta, definitely a plus if you can't make up your mind! Service was flawless. I would go back and I do recommend it for a quiet evening.
Great evening with family! Food was great - chef prepared something that wasn't on the menu (bruschetta) for appetizer and it was excellent. A great place with great service!
The Service was outstanding as well as the quality of the food. Our only complaint had nothing to do with the restaurant. Someone was drilling in the floor above in the office tower after hours. The waitress was very apologetic although it wasn't her fault.
Outstanding food and service!! Always a pleasure going for dinner there!!
